Chapter 26: 26

She Never Expected ✓Words: 7885

I don't know why but I was curious.

Curious to know about that girl.

Why did she leave the post?

Is there something I don't know?

I went back to my cabin with all these thoughts in my mind, there was still some time left for the break to end, so Kevin stayed in the cafeteria.

Mr. Rude was not present as he had gone to meet the head of that Advertisement company. So, I was all alone on the floor.

I opened the door, moved to my desk, and settled into the chair with a sigh, starting up my laptop to finish the pending work.

Releasing a deep breath, I organized the paper and files lying carelessly on my desk. Suddenly, the door to my cabin opened without warning and my eyes widened looking at the persons who stormed in.

Two women.

One was that britcha lady and the other was —

Wait she seems familiar. I have seen her somewhere.

I tried to think hard about the other women. Then it dawned upon me that it was the same girl who was hugging Mr. Rude. Mr. Jay Sharma's Daughter.

What was her name again?

Lyra?

Dyra?

Coming back from my thoughts, I looked at them, surprised and a little startled by the unexpected intrusion. They both had fake smiles plastered on their faces as they walked near me.

I forced a smile back and hoped that it did not look like a frown.

What are they doing here?

"We wanted to meet Advik. But he is not available. So, we thought to talk with you." That lady whose name I assumed to be Dyra spoke locking her eyes with mine.

"Yes, Ms. Dyra, he is pretty busy. He will be back after an hour." I replied and watched as the smile on her face disappeared and the lady beside her snickered.

"It's Myra, by the way." She spoke in a monotonous tone while folding her hands across her chest and giving me a glare.

"Oh, I'm so sorry. Ms Myra," I said, mentally facepalming myself as I continued, "Please take a seat."

She sighed and took a seat, gesturing for the other lady to do the same.

I sat up straight in my seat, taking note of their expression which was turning to serious, their gaze was intense and unwavering. The room was thick with tension, and it was clear that what they had to say was anything but pleasant.

The silence in the room was dangerous. For a while, no one spoke, and the only sound was the soft hum of the air conditioner. I felt a knot in my stomach and my palms started sweating. They both were looking at me like I had stolen something from them.

Their stare started making me feel uncomfortable.

Are they planning to kill me and disappear?

Shall I prepare to run?

I looked at the open window that was 16 feet away from me.

Will I survive if I jump from there?

You are on the 55th floor, Idiot. My brain reminded me.

"You are Ria Mehra, Right?" Britcha asked, making me come out of my thoughts. I nodded my head, forcing a smile.

"So, how long have you been working here?" Myra questioned, looking at me with a straight face, her tone laced with curiosity.

"3 months," I spoke, keeping my voice steady.

They both exchanged a glance, their expressions hardening.

"Only 3 months, huh? And you are already so close to your boss," That britcha girl spoke, her voice filled with skepticism as she put her elbows on the table and leaned forward while burning holes in my skull.

I gulped.

I don't even know what they are talking about.

"Your expression tells that you are still unaware of certain things Ms. Ria," Myra spoke, drinking the water.

"Yeah, I see. We should let her know about that." Britch said and extended her hand toward me, "Ms. Ria, I am Britcha Washington."

I took her extended hand, shaking it and she continued, "I have worked as a secretary here. Just like you."

"Yes, I am aware of that Ms. Britcha." I tried to sound normal.

"Well, then you might have heard that I gave the resignation within 10 days."

No, you were kicked out.

I wanted to say but I kept my mouth shut and just nodded my head.

"Aren't you interested in knowing the reason behind that?" She spoke with a tight lip smile, her gaze warning me to say yes.

I shook my head negatively, "No, why would I? It's in the past,"

Her smile dropped and she exchanged glances with Myra.

"Well, but you should know. I want to tell you, so you don't get trapped. "

I furrowed my eyebrows, "Trapped?"

She nodded, "Yeah, Mr. Advik Aggarwal....He is not what he looks like."

Yeah, I know.

He is not a robot but a human.

She spoke, "He is the main reason behind my resignation. I couldn't handle his demands and expectations. He's just too strict and unreasonable."

"I am not understanding. Can you please speak clearly?" I asked.

She sighed, and leaned back, exchanging knowing glances with Myra.

Myra spoke, "I am his ex-girlfriend."

With furrowed eyebrows, I asked, "Whose?"

She rolled her eyes, "Mr. Advik's"

"Oh,"

Shall I congratulate her?

I remained silent without showing any expression on my face.

Like, she said ex. Right?

It should not affect me. The past doesn't matter.

That's what I told myself.

But I know deep down, I was dying to know the history.

I could see the frowns appearing on their faces due to my lack of reaction.

"I can't understand why you are telling me this?" I asked in a normal tone in an attempt to get them to the main point.

She smiled and got up from the seat.

Walking beside me, she put her palm on the table and rested her weight on it.

"I thought to let you know since you both are getting married." Her tone was firm and dangerous.

"What? Us? Nope. You might have some wrong information." I tried to shrug off the topic looking away from her and at my laptop. She twirled the chair I was seated on towards her, and I was met with a hard glare.

"Do I look like a fool?" She then stood straight folding her hands across her chest as she continued, "My and Advik's father are friends. His father informed us about that."

I tried to maintain my composure calm. She continued, "Ms. Ria. We are only here to save you."

Right now, the only people I need to save myself from is you.

I wanted to say but I didn't. Instead, I asked, "Save? From whom?"

"Mr. Advik. Do you know why I broke up with him? Well, let me tell you the truth. Advik and I were childhood best friends." She paused, then looked at my reaction.

Best friend?

Was he talking about her that day at the beach?

A sudden heaviness crept into my heart.

She continued, "We were so happy together. So, in love. But then one day I found him cheating on me. After that, I found out that he is a Playboy. He just used me and threw when his motive got over." She placed a hand on my shoulder, her voice becoming low, "You should be careful, he is known for being a charming womanizer. He probably has his eyes on you already."

I felt a pang of disbelief in my chest. My heart refused to believe her words, but a small voice of doubt still bugged my mind.

The way she was saying things looked strange and made up. But ignoring that, I nodded slowly.

Britcha who was sitting in front of me, spoke, "Yes, He will trap you in his fake love and then will play with your feelings. He did the same thing with me. He's never had a serious relationship. You should be careful. He is manipulative and charming, he will make it seem like he's interested in you, just to throw you away at the end." She then stood up while taking her purse from the table.

"We see, you are a nice person. We don't want you to get hurt. That's why we came. You should know his real self before taking any decision." Myra talked and then walked away from my desk, stopping beside Britcha.

They exchanged glances and started to walk away.

As they reached the door, Myra turned towards me, "Just a friendly advice, you should better stay away from him. You never know what he's up to, he's a heartbreaker. Don't let him ruin your life."

They exited the cabin, leaving me alone with my thoughts. I closed my eyes, reflecting on the conversation. Their words echoed in my head, planting doubt and fear in my heart.
