Louisâ pov
At half past nine in the morning, Louis was impatiently waiting for his now favourite class to begin. Harry and the other students were yet to come, but the teacher was already writing this hourâs subject on the whiteboard, whistling while doing so. Afterwards he took a seat behind his desk, to look around the classroom, his big signature grin plastered on his face.
Louis was usually one to really appreciate it when people are often in a good mood, but this guy took friendliness to a whole new level. Not once had he seen his teacher let the corners of his mouth drop for a second. The fact that Mr Murs hadnât ever let his smile disappear, or answered a student with only the slightest bit of sarcasm or annoyance in his voice, always staying his friendly and chipper self instead, gave the fringed haired lad the creeps. It could only be a facade right? There was no way that this kind of behaviour wasnât faked. So, who knew what was actually on the guyâs mind?
As the gaze of the teacher was currently focused on him, Louis decided to break the eye contact himself and took a subtle look at his phone for the time. Still 5 minutes till the start of the next hour.
In the mean time the lad briefly thought back of yesterdayâs events and his discussion with Liam that same morning, wondering if theyâd made the right decision by just awaiting first, looking for more clues, before taking resort to heavier arrangements like hunting the beast down.
Luckily his curly haired friend, and some other pupils as well, decided to come a bit earlier too and took that moment as cue to walk through the door, breaking Louisâ bubbly of worrisome thoughts and bringing his chipper mood back instead.
âHi Lou,â he heard a deep voice calling next to him. The owner of the voice took a seat, sweeping his chocolate coloured fringe out of his eyes at the same time.
âI didnât expect you here already. Did maths ended early or what?â
Louis smiled softly, endeared with the fact that his roommate had remembered that part of his timetable, although heâd only briefly mentioned it once before.
âNo, it didnât, âcause I hadnât even given it the chance to even start today,â the lad smirked mysteriously, ending his statement with a wink.
Harry watched Louisâ knowing eyes confusedly. First he didnât grasp the ladâs cryptic words, but then the meaning of Louisâ words sunk in, letting his eyes widen in realization.
âWait, what? You ditched?â
The other boy nodded in confirmation, running his hands through his hair, to make it fall even messier. After seeing such a sinful image in front of him, Harry absentmindedly bit his lower lip. With his eyes focused on the lad in front of him, he almost forgot that heâd asked something in the first place, until Louis verbally answered.
âYeah, Iâm failing maths either way, so I figured that sleeping in would be more useful than ever coming back.â
âOh come on, you canât be serious,â Harry retorted quickly, noticing the mischievous glance that had set in his friends azure eyes. âYou canât have decided that after only 4 or 5 classes!â
A pout was being formed on Louis face as he was disappointed that his friend didnât believe him and he surrendered.
âAlright, you got me. That wasnât the real reason. I just had some... stuff to discuss with Liam.â Furrows appeared on Louisâ forehead, suggesting how carefully he was trying to pick the right words. He decided to subtle change the subject, hoping Harry wouldnât catch on.
âAlthough I wasnât lying about the failing maths part, as that is likely to happen.â
âReally?â Harryâs big, doe-like eyes made Louisâ heart melt immediately.
âMaybe I can tutor you? Maths is like the only thing Iâm good at, so Iâd be happy to help! And if you want, you can teach me French in return, âcause Iâm rubbish at it and you sound like some kind of Napoleon.â
Harry babbled, a light had formed in his eyes and his dimples had made an appearance again. The boy looked so excited with the prospect of spending more time with him, that Louis couldnât do anything but accept the offer.
âThat sounds wonderful Harry!âAfter seeing Harryâs happiness radiating off his face in prospect of the tutoring lessons, Louis added, âBut I doubt that maths is the only thing youâre good at.â
âWell, maybe I have one other talent,â he got as answer together with a quick roll of vivid green eyes and a little smile from the curly haired boy.
âSee, I knew it! Didnât I?â Louis piped, âNow tell me what it is! Iâm dying of suspenseâ
The dramatic end made Harry smile for the last time before he put his poker face on. He then gestured the shorter lad to come closer, licking his lips at the same time. The silence between them was so quiet you could hear a pin drop. A heartbeat later he confided Louis with a hushed voice and cheeky smile,
âWell, I donât want to brag about it, but Iâm quite good with handling balls.â
The moment Harry saw his friendâs eyes widen in realization, his mouth falling ajar with a soft âplopâ, he couldnât handle his straight face anymore and broke out in a fit of laughter, getting a confused glare of Louis in return. With clapping hands and tears almost streaming down his cheeks, Harry finally managed to sputter.
âLouis, you âyou shouldâve seen your face! You do know Iâm talking about juggling, right?â
If his body would be able to do so, the vampireâs cheeks would have currently turned blood red of embarrassment. Instead he shifted uncomfortable in his chair, playfully hitting Harry on the shoulder but looking everywhere but in the boyâs eyes.
âYou bloody wanker! Who knew you could be this cheeky?â
Harry wiped his tears away, trying to steady his laughter so he could answer Louis, but just as he was able to talk properly again, the teacher interrupted him by asking the class for silence.
âAs you all can see on the whiteboard, this lessonâs subject is âAssociationsâ,â the teacher started to explain, pointing his thumb in the direction of the word heâd written before.
âIn trying to reach humanâs subconscious, as our dear friend Sigmund Freud has called it, were going to do a little psychological âexperimentâ,â He imitated quotation marks with his fingers while saying the last word before grabbing the pile of papers that was lying on his desk and started to distribute them.
âYour partner will start with reading the first word of his list out loud and you have to answer quickly with saying the first thing that comes up in your mind. Donât think about your answer, just spit it out. Afterwards your partner writes down your answer and has to read the second word. If he or she ends the list, it will be your turn to read the first word of your own list and your partner has to answer,â
Two lists were shoved on Louisâ and Harryâs table. Taking one of them, Louis noticed that only ten words were typed. As the teacher had finished distributing the lists, he himself grabbed one off of the nearest table and turned to the class again.
âAs you can see, there are two lists. The words are the same, but they are in a different order. The aim of this test is to look into our own subconscious, we will discuss the results next lesson. Tests like this are frequently used by psychologists and psychiatrists. The famous butterfly paintings you all know from certain films to discover psychopaths are a prime example of this.â
A bit bored because of the speech, Louis zoned out, not wanting to hear the teacherâs rant anymore. He turned his head to watch Harry, but his neighbour was eyeing the list himself, not noticing Louisâ attention, so the lad decided give his attention to the teacher once more.
âIs everything clear?â The man in front of the classroom had just ended his instructions, asking if anyone had questions for the last time. No response was given so he continued. âAlright, then you all may begin.â
While pronouncing his last words, the teacher was looking straight into Louisâ eyes. For some reason the look in the eyes of the man wasnât as nice as youâd think with him always smiling. An odd shiver ran over Louisâ back, so he turned his gaze to his sheet again. What was it with this weird guy?
âIâll start asking?â Harry questioned, one eyebrow lifted and his hands holding the sheet firmly.
âYeah, sure,â was Louisâ still dazed answer.
âOkay! So I read a word and you answer immediately with saying the first one that pops up in your mind, right?â the boy clarified for the last time. His toned turned a bit cheekier then as mischief clouded his green eyes, âAre you ready for it?â
Louis nodded, a smile playing around his lips and prepared himself mentally for Harryâs question fire to begin.
âDrink, â Harry exclaimed.
âRedâ
Louis froze when the meaning of his answer seeped through. He really hadnât been thinking about his answer, saying the first thing that came up his mind, but now knowing what his answer was, he should have thought about it in advance. Sure, Harry didnât know anything about his actual drinking preferences, but he shouldnât say such suspicious things like this.
Luckily the boy just laughed in return, frowning.
âRed? Do you like tomato juice or do you really just said a random word?â
âNo,â Louis eyes blinked rapid, trying to come up with a good explanation, âIâm âuhm â I always drank rosehip tea when I used to visit my grandmother. For some reason I thought about her. Donât know really why. Itâs the subconscious right?â He babbled with hopeful eyes, pleading that Harry would accept the answer.
âCool,â was the only thing the boy said, looking back to the paper in his hand to write down the answer. He clearly didnât make a  big deal of it.
âSo letâs move on to the next one,â he mumbled when he dotted the end of his sentence.
âHuman.â
âFood.â
Now both heads instantly shot up to look at each other. Harryâs eyes frowning in utter confusion, while Louis eyes were spread wide open in surprise. Fuck, he shouldâve learned his lesson, but no, Louis had still answered immediately without thinking . At least this subconscious thing really works, because with Harry in front of him, blood and feeding really is the first thing on the fringed haired boyâs mind.
âI really donât know why I said that. I âuh â was thinking about a man eating a hamburger and for some reason that hamburger stuck, you know? I just have an odd brain I think.â
Harryâs face returned to a neutral expression again, and although his eyes stayed wary, he sighed in relief.
âGood, donât want you to get arrested for cannibalism, do we?â He breathed with a casual tone.
Louis laughed at his cheeky joke, glad that Harry had once again believed his explanation. He cursed himself and promised not to slip up again next time, deciding o choose an answer in advance.
The eyes of the boy in front of him were already moving back to the typed words on the sheet.
âApple,â Louis thought, âWhatever Harry asks, Iâm gonna say apple. Itâs safe and nice and healthy and has nothing to do with what I am.â
Harry spoke up.
âWolfâ
âApple!â
Louis instantly shouted the word, making sure that he didnât slip up again. It had been a good idea that heâd thought the word beforehand, otherwise he definitely wouldâve yelled âfull moonâ or âenemyâ in return and that wouldâve caused even more questions. A donkey never hits his head three times on the same stone and a vampire especially not. Â A giggling sound came out of Harryâs mouth, immediately muffled by one of his big hands.
âYouâre completely right, Lou, you really have a weird brain. Do you even try to associate?â
Louis poked Harry in the dimple, quite liking the fact that he had made it appear, and jeered, âJust wait till itâs my turn to ask you the words! Then weâll see who has the weird brain!â
âToo bad I still have 7 words.â The snickering response was.
Louis suddenly felt the urge to stick his tongue out to the other boy, as he was completely lost for any witty or cheeky answer. The curly haired boy simply distracted him too much.
As Harry prepared himself for the next word on the list, Louis once again thought his next response through already and decided to go for the word âlampâ. Lamps were not harmful.
*
40 minutes and 17 words later, the boys had finished their tasks. Louisâ answers had stayed really random, varying from mouse to Hercules as the time moved on. Harryâs in comparison had been really normal and had made a lot of sense, like saying âcokeâ after âdrinkâ and âgreenâ when Louis had uttered âgrassâ. It had been much to Louisâ dislike as the other boy had teased him lots with his own random answers and the vampire had hoped to get him back for it.
Class ended 5 minutes later, bringing Louis and Harry to the hallway where their roads part.
âSo,â Harry stated, his hand put casually in his pockets, beanie once again placed on his mob of curls, âI guess Iâll see you at lunch?â
âI donât know,â Louis lightly refused, âI promised Liam to eat with him.â
âPlease,â Harry was giving that puppy-look again that Louis just couldnât ever resist, âZayn is acting a bit weird lately and Niallâs always talking to Josh and it would be so much more fun, please?â
Louis mulled over his choices, but then gave in. The lad in front of him really brought out his soft side and he really didnât have to eat âor barely eat âwith Liam every day.
âAlright,â Louis smiled âSee you later.â
âSure,â Harry beamed before almost skipping to his next class.
Louis made quick work of sending a text to Liam announcing that he wouldnât join his friend with lunch and then he too departed to his next destination.
