Chapter 19: Chapter 19

The Moment to FightWords: 9448

Kiera

The huge double doors to the Known Family's mansion burst open and the King and Queen stepped through it.

Even at a time like this, they emitted an air of sophistication. The King had his dark hair neatly slicked back and the Queen's silver hair was in its famous bun at the bottom of her neck. They still wore the same matching black robes that billowed out at their feet. Their red eyes shone with hatred toward the Rebels.

The Queen elegantly drew her arm up and pointed at us.

"Take them down. Keep Declan and the girl alive. I have no use for the others," she demanded.

The Guardians and Supporters took a few steps forward and raised their arms to the sky simultaneously.

Most of them remained still in the back.

With unyielding strength and determination, the Rebels faced the Guardians and Supporters head on. All of their unique eyes were sharper than ever.

We formed the pointed part of a triangle with Mei in the front, Declan and I to his sides. The rest of the Rebels spread out behind us.

With their arms still raised, the Guardians and Supporters formed the weapons Declan had previously destroyed.

Except this time, there weren't nearly as many. I guessed there to be less than half than last time.

I locked eyes with Declan who was already looking at me, his eyes a fierce silver.

Through unspoken thoughts, we knew what we had to do.

The Rebels formed their own weapons that were still no match for the Guardians and Supporters even though they didn't have as many.

Declan and I entwined our hands behind Mei's back and raised them above his head. With our free hands, we faced our palms to the attackers.

We weren't quick enough to stop the barrage of weapons from coming at us full speed.

The Rebels sent our weapons hurdling through the air towards the attackers as we dropped to the ground.

Declan somehow managed to land on top of me and pressed himself as close as he could get to me without crushing me. He snapped his wings out and surrounded us with them. The rest of the Rebels did the same with their wings.

No matter what protection he tried to offer me, it was no use. We would all die right now once the assault of the weapons reached us. We would be torn to shreds and I wouldn't be able to avenge Trev or the Rebels.

As I laid there with Declan covering me, I let a tear fall while I waited for the weapons to reach us.

After a few minutes I knew for sure that the weapons should have killed us by now. It was eerily silent.

The attack of the weapons never came and they never would.

Looking past Declan's shoulder, I picked my head up and gasped. I even pinched myself to make sure what I was seeing was real.

The front line of Guardians and Supporters who had attacked us were sprawled out on the lawn with their own weapons protruding from various parts of their bodies.

It was very gruesome to look at and I felt nauseous. At the sound of my gasp, Declan picked his head up and drew his eyebrows down.

The Rebels slowly picked up their heads one by one also.

The second line of Guardians and Supporters raised their arms in a peace offering.

"I had no idea this was going on. They must have banished my brother to the Gray Sector as well," one of the Guardians said to us.

The rest of them nodded their heads in agreement and muttered the same revelations.

The Guardians and Supporters took their time walking over to us. The one who had spoken first offered his hand to Mei and helped him off the ground.

He kept his firm grip on Mei's hand when he began to speak again.

"We can't imagine what you guys have gone through, but we can offer assistance. This needs to end. We all have had friends and family taken from us. We were all told they would be going to a training facility to hone in on a power. Yet, we never saw them again. The time for revenge has come."

Mei smiled broadly and gladly shook the Guardian's hand.

By now, all of the Rebels had gotten off the ground and had gathered behind Mei.

I glanced over to see the terrified faces of the King and Queen. They dashed back into the mansion to call for backup I assumed.

"Now is not the time to discuss much more. We need to get out of here before the Guardians and Supporters from the other sectors come here. Let's move," Mei declared.

Silently, all of us followed behind him as he lead us to the outskirts of the White Sector.

We made it to the run down building in the middle of nowhere right as night fell. It took a couple hours to make it back. Since it had been broad daylight, one of the former Supporters, now turned Rebel, granted us each invisibility with her power.

She removed our cloak of invisibility once we were all safely seated in the room I had first met the Rebels in.

We had lost one in our confrontation, but it felt like we had lost a whole army of Neph. Trev had been everyone's leader and best friend. He's the one who gave them hope of changing this society. Now he was gone. I shuddered a sigh trying not to cry.

Declan wrapped his arm around my shoulder and pulled me close as we sat down with everyone.

The Rebels group was so large now that some of us had to stand while others sat.

"I'm sure after our broadcast that there are others out there who want to join us too, like with what happened with you guys," Mei said nodding to the Guardians and Supporters.

"Trev was a fierce leader and fought hard until the end. He will be missed and never forgotten. He wouldn't want us to dwell on his death and give up. We are going to keep fighting and get what we deserve. We need everyone we can get to support us. Our new members will be the most wanted as of right now. So are we, but the White Sector has records of who they are.

"Since we did broadcast our rebellion, they saw each of our faces also. We will need to go out at night to find anyone to join us. A group of four will go out searching each night. We will rotate every night.

"We will need to be patient for a while until we have enough Nephilim banded together to make one last stand against the Known Families.

"We can do this. Don't lose hope. Trev led us for a reason. We can't let him down. We do this now, or we never will. Right?"

The Rebels and new members threw our hands to the center of the room and yelled, "Yeah!"

"Alright-"

Mei was cut off as the window in one of the upper levels, that was still intact, shattered.

Like statues, we stayed still and instantly got quiet.

Declan

Heavy footsteps sounded from the upstairs. I lost count of how many bodies struggled through the window.

There were too many.

Mei motioned with his hand for us to follow him. He backed out of the room without making a noise and we followed suit.

He led us to a room down the hall with a trap door. He held it open for us as the Rebels made their way down the secret passage way.

Kiera and I stayed with him to make sure everyone safely made it down. The three of us were ready to climb down once everyone made it inside.

The sound of footsteps right outside the room had Mei slamming the trap door down. It wasn't visible at all.

Mei was a selfless leader. He just shut the trap door instead of trying to hurry inside and blowing everyone's cover. Had he tried to get inside, we would have been caught.

Now, only the three of us would be caught. The Rebels should be safe as long as the intruders didn't find the door.

Kiera, Mei, and I walked away from the door in the floor and flattened our backs against the wall. There was nothing we could do and nowhere for us to go.

"Well, well, well. What do we have here?" The first guy to enter asked with a sneer.

We didn't say anything.

More and more Guardians poured in the room. No doubt their Supporters were outside the building, keeping watch.

Kiera reached down and grasped my hand. I squeezed it back.

"How many of you are there?"

We still didn't say anything.

"If you make this hard-"

"Just us," Mei said, his voice unwavering.

"Is that so? Hm. You lied, idiot. I'm a real life lie detector, kid," the Guardian threatened.

Mei cursed under his breath.

"Check every single room top to bottom. Tear this place apart of you have to. Oh, and take these shits," he continued as he jerked his head toward us.

We offered no resistance as three huge Guardians stepped forward. They put power dampening cloths over our mouths. We had no choice but to breath in the chemicals that would make our powers temporarily useless.

Then, our arms were bound behind our backs as we were shoved out of the building.

Hopefully by now, the Rebels had made it far enough away from the building to be safe if anyone were to find the door in the ground and decide to check what was inside.

Now that I think about it, I remember playing underground when I was a kid. I never went far because the tunnels were so expansive and you could easily get lost in them. The Rebels should have no issue finding a place to hide out for now.

The three of us were forced down the streets I had known so well. Now, they felt foreign to me.

I had been betrayed by my own kind.

I would not let them get away with this. Kiera, Mei, and I were not ready to give up yet. We still had a lot of fight left in us. I could see it in each of their eyes.

Kiera's eyes had turned completely green now, not just the little specks that used to be in the gray. Mei's gold eyes had a fire lit underneath them.

We would get through this. The Sectors will change. The Rebels will be given a new life and an opportunity to start over.

The real fight starts now.
