Macy's POV
Being at the hospital was not a part of our plan today. There were so many better things that should have happened today but somehow life has thrown a very bad joke at me.
I wish I would wake up from this nightmare. I wish it wasn't real. But every time I opened my eyes, I see Oliver lying in bed unconscious.
"We have a bed at the ICU. We will transfer Oliver soon." Todds informed me she then went on to check all the machine that was hooked on Oliver.
"Thank you so much, Todds. I wouldn't know what to do without you." I gave her a smile.
"Sans, errhhmm, Mrs. Crowne. I owe you this much for all the wee hour calls I had given you." She laughed.
But really, I was thankful that she'd let me in. And she'd let me witness everything that happened to Oliver in the hospital today.
A few minutes after, an orderly came and helped transfer Oliver. Todds has also personally escorted us to the ICU room and helped me settle. She even had food for me.
It was already 3 in the afternoon. I haven't eaten anything, I haven't drank anything. I was left with Oliver in the room. I couldn't eat anything.
I sat beside him. I held his hands but there was nothing. No response. The nurses kept cheering me, they keep telling me that he would be alright. As a doctor, I have seen a lot of these. There's always no guarantee and the patients usually has different healing times.
Oliver was heavily medicated with pain relief. The nurse would check him every 30 mins. I emptied his catheter bag and made sure his vital signs were stable. I was already tired and I fell asleep while holding him when I felt someone touched my shoulder.
"You should go home and get some rest." I heard Oliver's dad told me.
His dad went near the bed and looked at him. While his mother was talking to Dr. Chand.
I checked my phone there was nothing then I remember that I left my car at the airport. I quickly called dad to ask his driver to get it and pick me up at the hospital. I desperately need to see my twins too.
It was already 06:30 in the evening when driver called me to pick me up. Before going, I glanced at Oliver. He looked the same, he still has a swollen face and his eyes are closed. The only sound I could here was the ventilator supplying oxygen to his lungs.
I kissed his forehead and went home.
When I arrived home, my mom hugged me and we talked about what had happened in dad's study. I was so exhausted and my adrenaline was wearing off. But I still managed to run a bath for the twins and helped them change to their sleepwear. They told me they had a nice day with mamma and poppy. That made me happy.
I was about to sleep when I received a phone call from the hospital. Oliver had another code blue.
I had to go back to the hospital before my head could even hit the pillow. I kept praying while I was driving that he stabilizes by the time I reached the hospital.
When I arrived, they have just finished the code. The doctor said he is now stable but he is still in critical state.
I went to his side again held his hands.
"You need to get through this baby... I will be here waiting for you when you come back."
Throughout the night, there were doctors that kept on checking him. I was checking on him all the time.
The first 48 hours was the hardest because his heart rate kept going up and his blood pressure kept going low.
1 week had passed and Oliver was still unconscious. We were running out of time. I suggested to try and extubate him. I wanted to see if he can now breath without the ventilator. During the first try his oxygen levels went very low so the doctors decided to keep it until he could breathe with a normal mask.
I kept talking to Oliver and telling him to wake up. The longer he had the ventilator on the more I lose hope.
My life had stopped. My routine was to go home look after the kids and go back to the hospital.
On the second week, Loise arrived. She refused get in the ICU room as she couldn't take looking at Oliver in his current state. She just looked at him outside from the window.
Every night when we were alone, I kept telling him that he is not allowed to go. That I'm not letting him go.
Finally on the third week, he jerked his hand. I called the doctors and they checked him. Then they re attempted extubating him again. His oxygen levels went low again at first but came up to normal after a few minutes. Then the doctor decided to extubate him finally. And he is now breathing through an oxygen mask.
I bathed him in bed with the help of another nurse. I cried when I checked his mouth. His lips were dry and chapped because of how long he had the ET tube and now the oxygen mask.
"Come back to me Oliver... pls... you have had enough rest..." I begged him.
It was early morning when I heard him groan. I called the doctors again, straight away. He was conscious for a few minutes then went back to sleep.
I was positive that he will get better soon.
The next morning, I have decided to bring the twins one at a time. Maybe if he hears them he would try and wake up. I planned to bring Basti first as he was more rational than Vivi.
I explained to him, as simple as I can, so he doesn't get scared when he sees Oliver with a bandage on his head and a mask on his mouth. Loise also came with Basti.
"Mommy, gramma said my dad is awwiee... that dad?" Basti curiously asked.
"Yup that's dad. And you have to tell him to get better so he could take you to the fair." I was trying to stop my tears from falling.
Loise kissed Oliver and talked to him like he was going to answer. Then I put Basti down on the chair.
"Why daddy is a mummy?" Basti asked.
"He wanted to celebrate halloween early." Loise joked.
I laughed and cried all at the same time. We were just sitting on the couch watching Oliver when Basti walked towards Oliver.
He climbed the chair that was placed beside Oliver's bed and sat on the side of the bed. He touched his dad's hand and patted his tummy very gently like Oliver was very fragile.
Loise started to cry. "Basti tell your dad he better wake up because he still owe you your birthday present."
Apparently, it was all grammy's and grumpy's gift.
Then Basti moved forward and hugged Oliver on his tummy. He didn't say anything he just hugged him for a while.
After a couple of hours, I decided to take Basti home.
"I'll stay here overnight. You can go home and sleep." Loise offered.
I couldn't really refuse her offer because I haven't had a proper sleep for more than 3 weeks.
I went home as usual. Then came back in the morning. I was surprised to see everyone in Oliver's room when I arrived. I also noticed his bed was positioned in a way that he was sitting up. I quickly walked towards him.
"Baby you're awake!" I excitedly said.
I was about to sit on the side of his bed and kiss him when he suddenly said,
"I'm sorry. Do I know you?"
