Chapter 19: seventeen

RunawayWords: 7785

It's been a long time coming but hopefully it's worth the wait! Parts of Chapter fifteen part one and two were used but there's a twist at the end, enjoy :)

"Isabelle?" Theo says, he turns to look at me his face filled with shock.

"W-what are you doing here? I thought you w-were with Dexter?"

"I w-was" I say swallowing back the tears threatening to fall. "B-but he told me to c-come back."

"O-oh."

Oh? That's all he could say? I walk in on him about to kiss someone, someone who is most certainly not me and all he can say is oh?

"I s-should go" I mumble turning back to the door, so much for telling Theo everything tonight.

"No Isabelle you don't have to go." Theo says mechanically, almost like he's saying it because he has to.

I look down at Theo's hand which is still wrapped around another girl's waist.

"I t-think I do." I say mustering all my energy, taking off.

The moment I make it out the tears start rolling. He's my mate, my one and only, my true love, destined since birth.

My vision is blurred, I don't know where to go. I keep running until the house becomes familiar, Dexter's.

I stumble groggily back into his house. There's a girl with him, they're talking in low voices. The moment I walk in my eyes lock on a tiny doll in the girls hand. Blonde hair, blue eyes, two pigtails one plaited and the other isn't scar on the right check dressed from head-to-toe in blue. Dexter looks up snatching the doll from her hands, "Isabelle?" His tone is almost identical to Theo's. The sort of tone children use when they're been caught eating the last cookie, the kind of tone adults use when they're guilty.

I nod slowly, "what happened to you?" Dexter asks barely blinking an eye at my tear stained face and shaking frame.

"I-I went to see Theo and he w-was w-with s-s-s-someone." The words fall out of my mouth like smoke flying out and making everyone stare in disgrace. The doll forgotten in my shaken state.

"What are you talking about?" Dexter sits up now as if my words are of interest to him.

"T-they were k-k-kissing." I stutter on but am instantly cut off by Dexter's abrupt growl.

"You need to leave." I stare wide-eyed at Dexter's unwavering stature, fists shaking the girl beside him places a hand on his shoulder. He turns his head and I don't wait for him to say it again.

Before either of them can try and comfort me I push through their door and back out into the night. How could I be stupid enough to think that my mate would actually want me? He's an Alpha, what kind of Alpha doesn't have five girls on the side?

I'm such an idiot for believing all those stupid stories. I look back with tears in my eyes, since I've met Theo my life has been a rollercoaster. I guess this ride is over.

I start to run, run away, run as far as my legs will take me. There is nothing left for me at this pack, nothing but a cheating Alpha.

My eyes are filled with tears and as I continue to run on my whole body gives way.

I'm too weak to even run away.

"Isabelle!" His voice makes my heart skip a beat, my whole body aches and his touch seems to stop all the pain.

Remember what he did Isabelle.

He has someone else, someone who isn't me.

Theo tries to reach for me, but even in my teary state I manage to flinch away.

"D-don't touch m-me," I sob.

"Please Isabelle, we have to g-."

"No!" I cry crawling away from him. "I'm not going a-anywhere with you."

"Come on Isabelle be reasonable." Theo says softly his eyes green eyes glistening.

"R-reasonable?" "Y-your the one w-who's c-c-cheating!" I scream moving further away.

Theo's voice falters, "I can explain."

"I d-don't want to h-hear it."

"P-please Belle."

"D-don't you dare c-call me that!" I cry out.

Theo gives me a sad look, before scooping me right off the ground and into his arms. I pound on his chest wild with anger as my brain fights my heart.

Neither my brain nor my heart have the stamina to hold up for very long.

I can feel myself drifting off as my resolve starts to fade.

"Put her down." I blink slightly as a cold voice cuts through the air.

Theo growls not even hesitating in his stride. I close my eyes as a gust of wind kisses my cheeks, "I said. Put. Her. Down."

I feel Theo grip me tighter, "who are you?" He says uncertainty laced within his tone.

"I'm here for Isabelle." He says my name and I start to shake. His deep voice, so smooth. I crack one eye open daring to peek at the man stupid enough to challenge Theo.

He was beautiful, beautiful in every way that Theo would never be. His eyes were the same shade of green glistening with a softness I'd never seen before. Dark tousled hair and pale skin, he stood with an authority in his posture and power in his eyes.

He looks so familiar.

"Isabelle." He says again his tone husky and soft, I feel Theo stiffen. He can hear it to, how he says my name is like no other. A beautiful mix of tenderness and love.

Love? No, I must be daydreaming, he doesn't he can't love me. I don't even know who he is.

"Theodore, I am asking you now to put Isabelle down." I shiver at his tone, never have I ever heard authority like that. Even Theo seems shaken at the strength behind his words.

"Who are you?" Theo growls out, in an attempt to regain his stance of power.

"Xavier, my name is Xavier."

Theo freezes. Even his heart misses a beat, and in all the shock of learning the beautiful strangers name I feel myself plummeting towards the floor of the forest.

Landing in a pile of sticks I scuttle away from both of them as they continue to stare at each other.

"You don't have to run." I look up startled to see Xavier hovering over me. "Are you hurt?" I crane my neck around Xavier, where did Theo go?

Shaking I stare into Xavier's green eyes, "w-who are you?"

I feel Xavier's eyes run up and down me, reaching out his hand.

I stare at it reluctant to accept help from a complete stranger who managed to scare off my mate, supposedly one of the most powerful Alpha's in the world.

"I won't hurt you." Slowly I reach up letting his fingers touch mine, pulling back as an actual spark erupted from the touch. "Isabelle, it's okay." His voice is soft, the tone you use when you're trying to coax a kitten out from under the cabinet.

"T-the s-spark?" I say dumbstruck, an actual spark how is that even possible?

"You really have no idea do you?" Xavier eyes me as if I'm suddenly going to laugh evilly and reveal how I've been playing everyone since that start.

"A-a-anything about w-what?" I ask reaching my feet without any assistance.

"Who I am. Why Theo left. What the spark was. You genuinely have no clue. Do you?" I shake my head slowly, is this the part where Xavier brings out an axe and tells me he's going to put me in a museum or strip me down for my fur?

"Come on." I stare at Xavier's back as he starts in the opposite direction.

"Y-you just e-expect me to f-f-follow you?" I stutter I'm naive but I'm not that naive. Follow a complete stranger in the middle of the woods, has that ever ended well?

"You can go back to Theo if you want." Xavier replies not stopping.

A million thoughts run through my mind, go back to Theo? I should want to, I shouldn't even be standing here considering following Xavier... and yet.

My feet somehow have a mind of their own as I find myself stumbling after Xavier.
