Chapter 17: fifteen

RunawayWords: 7680

It's a little short but I'm still getting back into the swing of things, look out for sixteen and seventeen later today or tomorrow!

fifteen

"I can't believe she's lasted this long." A voice from my right whispered just loud enough for me to hear.

"I know right, like who does she think she is?" Came a snarky reply as twenty-two pairs of eyes fell on me.

I bite my lip not quite sure how to react, being taunted is pretty normal I guess - school doesn't really change wherever you go. I just never expected it to get worse because of my position, it felt like somehow even if I was queen of the world someone would still find a reason to taunt me.

Barely a week into school and things have already changed, I can see it. In his posture, the way he holds himself how he watches me, with each passing day the intensity in his eyes dies away.

I still haven't figured out what it is, maybe he's started to realise how weak I really am, or maybe he just doesn't want me and this is his way of distancing himself.

Whatever it is Theo changes, it's like the moment we step into school a switch flicks and suddenly I'm non-existent and unnecessary, simply a doll without any feelings.

Some days he's right, some days I flick the switch, let it all go. Theo doesn't even notice, but who would blame him? He's so busy with being an Alpha he doesn't really have time for a mate.

Dexter on the other time has oodles of time, so much so that he notices when I wear different socks or forget to brush my teeth. The things your mate would notice...

"Isabelle!" I jump up ready to run as the voice continues to yell my name drawing closer with every syllable. "Would you relax it's me."

I turn around eyes squinted, "Dexter? What are you doing here it's the middle of school."

He raises his eyebrows as his eyes travel up and down my body, "look who decided to be a Luna today."

I clench my fists glaring at him, "i-it's not a d-decision."

"Aaaaaand the stutter is back!" Dexter says holding his phone up to his mouth as a makeshift microphone. "Anyway why aren't you in class miss Isabelle, I could have you detention for the rest of the week."

I stare up at Dexter, "w-what do you m-mean?" I stutter shrivelling back into my old self.

"I mean that skipping class isn't against the rules, and when you break rules you get punished."

My heart pounds, my hands shake, everything goes black.

"P-please s-s-stop!" I say weakly raising both hands above my head.

"Silly girl, you can't surrender, this isn't a fight." My father laughs at my pathetic attempt to deter him. "I'm doing this for your own good, what you did was against the rules, and when you break the rules you get punished." He stares down at me raising his fists. "Do you know what rules you broke?"

"I-I w-w-was late t-t-."

"Would you stop stuttering you Omega!" My father's spit lands right on my cheek, a big drop of saliva.

I gulp, "I-I can't help i-it."

"Because you're weak, because you're an Omega."

"Yes, Beta." I reply bowing my head and lowering my hands.

"Now tell me what rules you broke."

"I-I made eye c-contact with y-you and b-breathed when I w-was told not t-to."

"Very good, I see you are starting to learn things."

I relax for just a second, maybe he'll let me be now, maybe he won't even need to hurt me.

"But you broke the rules, and when you break the rules you get punished."

I close my eyes waiting for the impact, but it never comes.

Instead I hear my name,

"Isabelle! Isabelle would you wake up, for pete's sake!"

My eyes fly open I sit up only to bang my forehead against someone else's. "Way to wake up abruptly."

I look over to see Dexter rubbing his own forehead, "where am I?"

"Where are you? Talk about cliche." Dexter murmurs rolling his eyes at me, "you have eyes figure it out yourself." He gestures to the cream walls surrounding us.

The soft fabric beneath my hands, the beautiful tapestry and the soft pink duvet. I stare up at Dexter, "t-this is where I was." I whisper staring up at the large oak door where James had first appeared from.

My eyes move to Dexter who has been watching me, deep in thought he doesn't even flinch when I meet his eye. "You remember?" His voice is so soft I almost miss it.

"O-of course I do, w-why wouldn't I?" I say watching Dexter for anything he gives away, a twitch in his eye, crease of the eyebrows anything to give away what he's thinking.

He just shrugs eyeing me, "why d-did you b-bring m-me here?" I ask looking over at him curiously.

"I just wanted to try something, if you're willing that is."

"Depends what it is, " I say sharply.

"Ahhhh just the luna I was hoping for, if you will." He says gesturing for me to stand up, I do so carefully never taking my eyes off him.

"Now I don't want you to ask any questions, you can never tell Theo about this and if you do I will deny it and he will believe me over you."

I stare at Dexter, "why would I agree to that? You could be about to rape me or something." I say my confidence trailing off after the word rape.

"Don't be so dramatic,I assure you I won't being hurting you or touching you."

I look over him wearily, and then back to the door. I could walk out but what if it's something good, maybe Dexter just wants advice or something harmless.

"Okay, what do you want me to do?" I ask nervously.

"I need you to close your eyes, clear your mind of everything. Extend your right hand in front of you with your palm face upwards. I'm going to place something in your palm and I want you to tell me any thoughts or anything that come to mind."

Before I even have time to wonder about Dexter's instructions I feel the small object in my palm. A tiny electric shock runs up my spine, "what are you thinking right now Isabelle, what do you see. Describe it to me."

"I u-um well it g-gave me s-shock." I say still confused about Dexter's instructions.

"What else?" Dexter's voice softens as if he can tell I'm still on edge from before.

"T-theres a v-voice, really high-pitched a-and bright."

"What is the voice saying?"

"I-I'm not s-sure, w-wait. I s-see her, blonde hair and b-blue eyes."

I hear a sharp intake of breath as the object is snatched from my palm.

"You can open your eyes."

Blinking a couple of times I look directly at Dexter, "what just happened?"

"I said don't ask questions," came the response.

"You cannot just do that! Put some weird rag doll into my palm tell me to close my eyes then not even tell me what happened!" I cry out waving my arms around.

Dexter spins around like lightning, "how did you know it was a rag doll I never told you and you never saw it."

"You put the object in my hand for pete's sake I'm not thick!!" I say my frustration growing.

"What did it look like?"

"The doll? Blonde hair blue eyes, two pigtails one is plaited the other isn't, scar on the right cheek and dressed from head-to-toe in bl-." I stop slowly as all the pieces begin to form a picture.

"Who is she?" I whisper my hands shaking.

"I said no qu-."

"WHO IS SHE?" I scream cutting Dexter off, to mad and confused to be afraid.

"You already know that Isabelle."

"Why did I know what she looked like without seeing her? Why did I hear her voice? See her when I closed my eyes? What is going on?" I ask but it's useless, Dexter is already gone.

Leaving me to wonder, to worry, to think.
