"I don't see a reason to stop"
Everyone's eyes remained on Selena except for Xavier's. When he turned back to look at her, he found her glaring at someone, he assumed it to be Ethan.
"Are you gonna let him talk to you like that?" Selena asked taking a step forward.
From the corner of his eyes, Xavier saw Connor smirking.
'Enjoying this?' Xavier linked him.
Connor's smirk widened, 'You don't see the fire in her too often nowadays.'
Xavier stopped the slight smile from spreading across his face and opened his mouth to speak to Selena, but she beat him to it.
"Are you, Xavier?"
Selena took a few more steps until she now stood right beside Xavier. Xavier turned to look at Ethan.
"The matter is much different," Xavier said sternly, "The hunters are playing with our minds..."
"And you let him," Ethan interrupted him again, and this time, even Xavier looked angry. He hated being interrupted when he was in the middle of talking. Ethan, ignorant of his alpha's anger, continued, "You let them play with your head and our Luna suffered."
"Was it just him though?" Selena asked. Ethan stayed quiet, not sure what Selena will say, "Step forward, Ethan. Stand beside Stacy here."
Ethan gulped and stood in the ordered spot.
Selena still didn't trust Xavier. The only reason she agreed to give their relationship a chance is that she could see he regretted it, and she still wanted them to work.
"Did you, or did you not help Stacy in tormenting me?"
A few of the wolves gasped, Selena smirked on seeing the scared expression on his face.
"Did you not try your advances on me?" She asked as she stepped down from the podium and stood in front of him, "Did you not try to touch me inappropriately? Did you not hit me and say it was an accident in the most unconvincing tone with that disgusting smirk on your face?"
This was when Xavier's face hardened as well. The guilt hit him again as he thought of everything she had to go through because of him but right now, his focus was on Ethan. Nobody was allowed to behave like that with a pack member, be it an omega or a Luna.
"Because he tried to make us think that you are a traitor!" Selena scoffed on hearing Ethan, "And right now he is going to make another one of our pack members go through the same hell."
"The hell that you all made up for your pack members," Selena countered.
"Why are you defending him? He punished you without a reason!" Ethan screamed which had no effect on the glare that she had directed towards him.
Returning to where she was standing beside Xavier, she spoke loud and clear, "The leaders of your pack took a decision, one that would jeopardize their own personal lives, only to ensure that you all were safe. Yeah, they made the wrong decision, but it was better than doing nothing."
All of the members remained quiet and listened to her.
Xavier hadn't noticed when Ryan had stepped up to stand beside him, but he was glad to get the support of his beta in a situation like this.
"He didn't ask you guys to torture me. That you werewolves did completely on your own, so do not dare pin that off on your alpha and beta. Everyone makes bad judgment calls sometimes, he's not a god. He is your alpha because he is the best among you all and he knows how to do his job. What if I really was a traitor? Would you rather he blindly supported his mate and got you all killed by the hunters?"
She saw a lot of the wolves agreeing to her points, as they whispered among themselves. That one point was enough to silence them. Ethan, however, still looked angry.
"Whatever you say, I don't think he is fit to be the leader."
"Are you challenging me, Ethan?" Xavier spoke this time.
"Yes. A fight till death, I think I will be a better leader than you."
A slight chuckle was heard, the family could recognize from the sound that it was Evelyn but no one turned to acknowledge her.
"Ethan," Ryan spoke, "I hope you realize that in case you lose, you will be dead."
"I know what a fight till death means, beta," he sneered.
"This is the last time," Xavier spoke loudly with a hard voice, "Are you sure?"
He never thought he'd see this day, and this hardness was the only way he knew to hide his pain of having to fight one of his own pack members.
"Ethan, no!" An older woman, whom Xavier recognized as his mother, exclaimed.
He smiled at her arrogantly, "Don't worry, mom, I will beat him, and I will be the new alpha."
Xavier sighed internally, 'Another death on my hands.'
'Will you spare his life if he asks to be spared?' Selena linked him.
'You're sure I will win?'
Selena looked at him like he was dumb, 'Aren't you?'
Xavier scoffed internally, but answered, 'I will spare his life if he asks. But Ethan is one of the stubborn ones, I don't think he will. I just wish his mother didn't have to see this.'
'What if he doesn't?'
'If he sees sense that he has made a mistake in challenging me, I will let him go.'
"I, Ethan Palmer, challenge you, Alpha Xavier Martinez, for your position in the Ferocious Shadows Pack. A fight till death, right now."
"As you wish," Xavier too sneered and the whole pack headed to the training ground.
As Selena and Xavier walked to that spot side by side, Selena asked him a question that had been bothering her, "What were you planning to do with Stacy?"
Xavier's face hardened as he remembered what he was doing before Ethan spoke up, "You'll see after this."
To say it was a waste of time would be an understatement.
It had barely been five minutes when Ethan was lying on the floor, unable to block Xavier's punches, Xavier stopped on seeing this took a few steps back, still hesitant to kill his own packmate. Selena stood by the side, her arms crossed in front of her chest as Xavier waited, hoping that Ethan would stand up.
His eyes went to Selena involuntarily and he took the time to check her out, she was wearing jean shorts with a tank top and a shirt over it, as it was slightly cold.
His eyes stayed on her breasts as her folded arms accentuated her features. His eyes went up, through the neck and her lips until he finally reached her eyes, only to find her already looking at him with a smirk.
'Rule number one,' she smirked, 'never get distracted during a fight.' She winked.
Xavier smirked and turned his head to face his opponent. Xavier only got a second to process that Ethan was already up and charging towards him, he spearheaded Xavier and brought him down on the ground. He shifted, while still on top of his alpha, hoping to get the upper hand.
Xavier, as an alpha, knew all the dirty tricks. Just as he landed, he rolled over, pinning Ethan's wolf down to the ground by his throat, while still in his human form.
Xavier glared at him, "Do you surrender?" he asked while still harshly holding him down.
Ethan showed no signs of surrendering. He snarled and kept snarling and trying to get out of Xavier's hold and go for his neck.
"I don't wanna kill you, Ethan! Give up already!" He shouted. He could hear the sound of his mother's wails by the side. But Ethan showed no signs of giving up and, as an alpha, he couldn't let him walk all after Ethan challenged him.
Xavier snapped his neck.
It was fast, there was no need to torture him, not while his mother was watching. Xavier had Roy ask her to not witness this, but she didn't listen.
Ethan's mom gave another heart-wrenching scream, but he didn't acknowledge it. He stood up, some of Ethan's blood on him, and looked at Ethan.
"Let his family say goodbye, and bury him in the pack cemetery."
He turned towards everyone else, "Anybody else thinks they are better than me?"
Nobody answered, they all bowed their head with respect.
"I am your Alpha. Yes, I made a mistake, I am owning up to it, and I will make it up to the one that I have wronged. However, the hunters are still a risk and the pack does have a traitor. It isn't Selena though."
His eyes fell on Stacy and the girl trembled with fear.
"My beta, my parents and my trusted friend Connor, all have their suspicions that you poisoned their Luna." The wolves around them gasped, "Three of the pack members informed me that you had the chance to ring the alarms before the recent rogue attack but you didn't. You brought me the video of the hunters. Looking at the video again, there are so many opportunities for the hunters to have seen you while you were recording it, but they didn't."
Stacy tried to speak but Xavier didn't let her.
"I didn't pay attention to it at that time, my very first mistake. I trusted you."
Xavier took off his shirt which was had spots of Ethan's blood on it and used it to rub off the extra blood and sweat from his skin.
"Roy, take her to the dungeon. Lock her up. I want two warriors always guarding the dungeons. I will have a talk with her later. Right now, I need a shower," he grumbled the last part

When Xavier exited his bathroom, he found Selena sitting on the bed.
"Make yourself comfortable, love."
Selena rolled her eyes and ignored the blush that was spreading on her cheeks, "You imprisoned her."
"I did."
Xavier took off the towel abruptly, leaving himself naked as the day when he was born. Selena's eyes widened comically and after the initial view, she had to make sure that her eyes didn't drop below his chest.
"What the hell!"
"C'mon, we are wolves, we are used to nudity."
"Sure," Selena muttered and turned away from him, finding the walls a lot more interesting than her naked mate.
"You know right that I wouldn't mind you seeing me naked?"
"Xavier..." Selena whined and he chuckled. He wore one of his sweatpants and Selena turned around when the ruffling of the clothes stopped.
"Stop flirting with me," she demanded but the blush and smile spoke otherwise.
"Why? I am loving it, and I can see you are too," Xavier smiled as he walked closer to her, once again, taking her in his arms, "I don't see a reason to stop."
Selena took a deep breath and kept her hands on his chest, feeling his muscles.
"We have a lot of catching up to do," Xavier muttered and kissed her behind her ears.
Selena shivered in pleasure and pushed herself against him. Xavier held her by her waist and started sucking on the spot where he would place his mark. Selena's hold tightened on him as he sucked and bit on her soft skin.
"Damn it!"
Selena gasped and tried to pull herself back but Xavier groaned and rested his head on her shoulders, "How many times in a single day can we get interrupted?"
"I wanted you guys to make up, but please don't make out with her in front of me," Connor said with a smirk, his arms around Evelyn's shoulders.
"Says you while being joined at the hips with my sister," Xavier countered.
Connor shrugged and walked in with Evelyn.
"Good to see you made up," Evelyn commented before her eyes fell on Selena's shoulder, "Nice hickey."
The only sign that she heard her was the blush on her cheeks and her rolling eyes. Ryan and Ileana walked in too and with them came Lorcan.
"All you gotta do, Xavier, is lock the damn door," he smirked.
"What are all of you doing here right now?" he asked blankly, done with their teasing.
"Lorcan came to visit."
"I thought you were tired?" the alpha asked with an eyebrow raised.
"Yes I am still not strong enough to transport your spirit to Damien, but my mate is asleep, and I was bored."
"So you would interrupt my time with my mate?"
"Wouldn't be the first time," the warlock smirked.
"Anyway," Ryan interrupted the both of them, "On a serious note, I am extremely happy for the both of you."
"Thanks, Ryan," Selena smiled at him and Xavier nodded his head in appreciation.
"So," Xavier began, "Did dad say anything about when they will be back?"
Selena sighed and shook her head, "Adriana saw Stacy though, in the town they were staying. This is the town which is far away from us. They think that the hunters are residing there."
"Are they sure?"
"No."
Xavier sighed, "Stacy is locked up here. They should come back, they don't know anything about the hunters."
"Talk to him tomorrow, see what they say," Lorcan spoke gently, making Xavier nod.
All of them sat chitchatting there until Selena noticed the one person missing, "Where's Aiden?"
"He didn't wanna come," Ileana responded.
"Well, it's time we all go to bed, we have training tomorrow morning."
"Ugh, party-pooper," Evelyn groaned and Xavier rolled his eyes.
All of them walked out leaving only Selena and Xavier. Selena was just about to go to her room when Xavier held her back.
"Lie down with me?"
Selena smiled and nodded her head. It was the first time ever that they would share a bed. Xavier was too tired to do anything else other than sleeping and Selena was just happy to be in his arms.
They had each other now and that's all they wanted right then.
