"What the hell happened?"
The curtains on the windows were pulled apart in the morning. As the sun peeped from through the clouds, it fell through the window and landed on her face.
Selena groaned from the slight disturbance the light caused. Instantly, someone was by her side.
"Hey... hey, it's okay. Selena?" Connor's voice greeted her.
She slowly worked on opening her eyes before she started blinking to get used to the brightness and to get rid of the slight pain. However, the uncomfortable feeling in her eyes was not even close to the throbbing pain in her chest and stomach.
"What the hell happened?" She, while she tried to get her eyes to stop blinking.
"Wolfsbane mixed with some other herb. The other herb itself is not poisonous to us but it increases the poison of Wolfsbane. Oleander," Connor answered as he held the glass of water towards her.
"As far as I know, in this area Oleander is found only in..."
"The town next to ours; there are a few shops there that sell both Wolfsbane and Oleander." Connor finished.
Selena took a drink of water and then looked at the mirror opposite her bed. For some reason, there is a mirror opposite to the bed in the hospitals in Xavier's pack. She couldn't figure out the reason behind this even if her life depended on it.
However, when her eyes hit the mirror, she looked at her face, which was a bit pale, and tried to stop the thoughts from forming a maze in her head.
They tried to kill her.
Did they plan to actually kill or was this just a scare?
"Damien thinks it's Stacy."
Selena looked back to meet Connor's eyes, "Is he sure?"
"He thinks he is. Stacy has not been in the packhouse since that day you were hospitalized and Damien had a conversation with her before she left."
Selena sighed, "I wonder how much she actually has to do with all of this and why."
Connor too nodded his head and Selena looked at him.
"How long was I out?"
"Three days. Mason said that you were lucky the poison hadn't reached your brain yet, or else it would be impossible to save you," Connor said, his voice trembling slightly towards the end.
She held his hand and smiled with a slight smirk, "You are not getting rid of me that easily."
Connor too smirked but Selena could easily see the worries behind it, "I'd appreciate that."
Selena smiled back. "When can I leave?"
"Right now," he said but sounded confused, "Yeah, Doctor Stevens just said you're weak due to the effect of the poison but your wolf has already healed you. You're okay to leave, you just have to be safe and calm for a few days."
Selena sighed and nodded before sitting up, "Let's go then. We've got a traitor to find and a beta to thank."
Connor chuckled and helped her up.
They met Mason on their way out who agreed that Selena is fit enough to be discharged, allowing both of the siblings to walk into the packhouse.
They had just entered the lobby when they saw Stacy on her way out.
"I see you made it," she said in a bored tone.
"Did you do it?" Connor asked, anger seeping through his words.
"Well, she is a new addition to the pack, I am not the only one who doesn't like her, Connor. Might as well just keep an eye on the others too." Stacy smirked, "You're not a Luna or an alpha here, just a normal pack member, you're not our leader."
She changed her expression to a very cheerful fake smile, one that she has mastered now, "Good luck!"
She walked out the door, crossing Ryan who's eyes widened on seeing Selena in the house.
"Oh my God," he whispered and rushed towards her engulfing her in a hug. "You had us so scared," he said and pulled back, "Are you okay? Nothing's wrong right?"
Selena chuckled and Connor spoke, "I was bringing her to the room and then I would have called you guys. She just woke up a little while ago."
Selena smiled too and nodded her head, making Ryan pull her back in for another hug.
"Thank you for saving my life," she whispered close to his ears and Ryan nodded.
"We know who did it," Connor said as Ryan let her go.
"Are you sure it's Stacy?" Ryan asked, his fist clenched.
"Damien seems to really believe that, plus, she's a bit too smug about the whole thing. She hates Selena, she's hiding her scent increases the suspicions a lot, and she has already tried to take the position meant for her."
"She seems to hate Selena a lot more than we imagined. We have to be alert twenty-four seven. She tried to poison the future Luna. I don't think we should take the risk of keeping her in the pack."
"That's Xavier's decision to make." Selena shrugged.
Izzy was fuming, she wanted that she-wolf's blood, and at this point, Selena too agreed with her wolf, this has been going on for too long.
Ryan sighed, "I'll go inform Xavier."
"Does he know about all this?"
"He knows about the poisoning. I had to beg him to trust us that we'll make sure you're okay and to come back only after his work is done."
Selena nodded.
As Connor and Ryan got her settled in her room, Selena prepared herself for she knew that Damien and Adriana are gonna be there any second.
On the other hand, Aiden found himself looking at his big brother as he paced around the room, like that would give him all the solutions.
Aiden wished Evelyn was here, but she had gone with the Gamma of the pack to go and check out their warriors. He cleared his throat and looked at his brother's face. The worry was very evident over his face.
Xavier was dying to go back, but he couldn't. For now, the only thing giving him peace is that Selena was stable.
The door to the room in which they were staying opened, and in came the Beta of the Blood Moon Pack.
She looked at Aiden and then at Xavier. A frown took place on her face when she saw his expression. Something made her soften her voice as she said, "Alpha Parker is ready for you."
Xavier nodded and Aiden stood up, followed by which both of them followed the beta to her alpha's office.
Alpha Stephen Parker stood up to greet Xavier and Aiden.
"It's been too long."
His smile was returned by Xavier as they shook their hands. Stephen sat down while his beta stood behind him,
"So, the hunters are back, huh?"
Stephen could see the stress Xavier was going through from a look on his face. They are good friends who couldn't meet much because of their duties and responsibilities.
"I have a traitor in my pack working for the hunters." Stephen's eyes stilled and both Xavier and Aiden could see a certain fury in their eyes. Stephen Parker was a very calm man, but one thing that he hated the most was traitors.
From the corner of his eyes, Xavier saw his beta, whose name they learned was Rosalind, steal a glance at their leader.
"My mate is in the hospital," Stephen's eyes softened for his friend, "She was poisoned, Wolfsbane and Oleander."
"The hunters are becoming more adamant if they are coming after an alpha's mate."
"Actually, remember the Lunar Eclipse pack?"
Stephen nodded.
"She is Alpha Robert Wilson's daughter." Stephen's eyes remained the same but Rosalind gasped.
"I thought they were all dead?" He asked.
Xavier shook his head, "She was taken captive, and her brother who was out was left unharmed. As far as we know, these are the only two survivors."
"You think there are others?"
"I think there is a chance someone ran away unnoticed." Stephen nodded understandingly, "Either they joined other packs, or have turned into either rogues or lone wolves.
"Xavier," all eyes fell on Alpha Parker, "We are allies, You have our support. But what's the game plan?"
Xavier sighed, "We haven't decided yet. There are still a lot of things about them that we don't know. Until we know their numbers, weapons, no plans are going to be good enough."
"We don't have any information?"
Xavier felt Aiden turn to look at him and clenched his jaw with anger, "They might have a witch among them."
"A witch?"
Xavier nodded.
"Witches are never known to be ones to help humans, especially hunters."
Xavier nodded, "I know. But the one we are suspecting to be a traitor in our pack is because she had a way to hide her scent away, completely. That's only known something which the witches can do."
"I am guessing you are calling your pack warlock then?"
Xavier nodded silently.
The conversation was put in a pause when Xavier's phone rang. He excused himself and walked to the balcony in the office, facing the woods.
"Talk to me."
"She's up." Xavier sighed a breath of relief after he heard Ryan, "She's still a bit weak, but she's getting better. Damien and Connor both think it's Stacy."
"And they are sure?" Xavier asked.
"Damien thinks he is, Connor says he isn't sure but he feels it's very likely."
"Did she say anything?" Xavier whispered against the wind.
"Stacy?" Ryan asked.
"Selena."
Ryan was silent for a while but he caught up soon, "Not really, she's spending her time mostly with Connor and your parents."
Xavier nodded understandingly.
"I might take a few more days to come back. Stephen and I have a few more things to discuss."
"Don't worry boss, your pack is in good hands."
"Take care, Ryan."
"You too, Xavier."
The heavy part of the conversation was over, now it took a turn towards the other causal things. The fact that Xavier was much more relaxed after hearing that his mate was now doing well, helped a lot in making the conversation lighter.
On the other hand, Stacy didn't have the courage to leave the pack lands. Damien and Connor are two very important wolves among the leaders. If both of them have their suspicions about her, that was not a very good thing for her.
She had called Jared to let him know that Selena was alive, their plan to scare them didn't work and that their suspicions on her were solidifying.
Her heart shattered on hearing the disappointment in her mate's voice.
But she didn't dwell on it. Jared stated that his disappointment was mainly because he was worried about her safety, reassuring her, as well as calming her down. The call didn't last long as Jared said he had to inform his bosses.
Jaredand Naomi weren't happy with having the suspicions on Stacy, but in the back oftheir mind, they knew that it was a miracle that it took them this long.
