"I should, this is important"
The warm water hit his face and trickled down his body as Xavier pushed his hair back from over his forehead. His eyes were on the wall and there was a gentle smile on his face. The smile, which only the thought of his soul mate can induce in him.
He turned the shower off and used his hands to remove the droplets of water on his face. Taking a towel, he wrapped it around himself before he left the bathroom. However, the man was startled when he saw Ileana sitting on his bed.
However, this expression on her face was not that of Ileana's. She had that mischievous expression on her face that cannot be compared to anyone and Xavier instantly smiled, "Hey, there."
"Big bro!" the girl exclaimed with a cheery smile. She got up and embraced him tightly, not caring that he was just covered in a towel, "So glad to see you," she muttered, "Even though I'd have preferred to see you in clothes," She smirked.
"Good to know you are still you're crazy self," Xavier smirked. Evelyn was the fun twin while Ileana was the one who was the mother hen.
However, as soon as Xavier had finished his sentence, Evelyn hit him behind his head, making him frown, "That was for not telling me that you met your mate!" she exclaimed trying to be fake angry.
"You just came." She smirked on hearing him, "Also, where are our parents?" Xavier asked.
"Well, they said they will be back in another week. Now, do not change the topic, tell me all about her!" she exclaimed excitedly.
Xavier turned around and entered his walk-in closet, he knew when he walks back into his room, his sister will be right there waiting for the deets.
"Okay, so what do you want to know?" He asked as he sat in front of her, now in a pair of sweats and a t-shirt.
"Who is she? Where is she from?" Evelyn asked as she sat with her legs folded on the bed.
"Well, she's Selena Wilson." Evelyn's eyes widened, "She was going to be the future alpha of the Lunar Eclipse pack when her..."
"Her pack got attacked by hunters," she breathed out. Evelyn's eyes were wide, "Please tell me she was in hiding and it's not what I think?" She asked, her voice getting softer as she reached the end.
"She was taken," Xavier whispered, "She had been kept prisoner there, for two years."
"I can't even imagine," Evelyn whispered and Xavier responded by nodding solemnly.
"Anyway," Xavier said, "The good thing is that she's here now. And she's okay now. She's back into training and she is awesome," Xavier said dreamily, "She is so freaking strong. Even after all these, she trained today for the first time, and she still fought better than our trained warriors."
Evelyn smiled on seeing her brother like this, he looked absolutely love-struck and seeing her older brother, who was always so serious about protecting his pack, Evelyn also couldn't wait to finally meet the girl.
Evelyn was going to speak but then a knock sounded on the door and Ryan peeked in, "Xavier, you have a call scheduled with the Alpha of the Blood Moon Pack."
He smiled on seeing Evelyn too and she gave him a cheeky grin, "Where is my sister, Mr. Beta?"
Ryan rolled his eyes while still smiling before he spoke, "She's in the other room with Selena,"
Within a blink of an eye, Evelyn was off the bed, she pushed Ryan away from the door. "Let me go meet my sisters, move aside now," she said as she crossed Ryan making the two guys chuckle.
"The calm and peace is now over," Ryan spoke with a smirk.
"Just wait till Aiden gets back, all hell will break loose," Xavier sighed with a smile and Ryan chuckled.
"Dude," Ryan said as he sat beside Xavier, "She's an amazing fighter."
"Yeah, she is," Xavier smiled instantly, "After all, she was trained to be an alpha."
"Okay enough," Ryan said pushing Xavier slightly, "Get up, you are due on a call within," he looked at his watch, "the next 3 minutes."
Xavier got up and he looked at his best friend with a grumpy look, but inside he was happy. He was happy to be treated like a normal friend and not a leader. Xavier always tried to be very friendly with everyone, however, since he was the leader, most of the people were extra safe around him, and treated him like some kind of a god. They didn't want to disrespect him even by mistake.
Ryan was one of those people who didn't care. Sure, he didn't want to disrespect his alpha, but he also knew that the alpha needed a friend too, and he was happy to be one. Xavier rarely told it to Ryan directly, but he was so glad that he had a friend. He didn't have many friends, it was just his family and Ryan, and now, his mate too.
The call lasted for nearly a whole hour. Xavier still hadn't eaten anything since training and he was starving. As soon as the call was over, Ryan, who as the beta was also a part of the call, and Xavier, headed straight towards the kitchen.
Ryan entered the room first and Xavier had just reached the door when he observed the scene in front of him. Ryan had already entered was hugging Ileana from behind, Evelyn was sitting with a smirk, Ileana had a pout on her face. Ileana suddenly stood up and pushed Ryan back, Xavier's eyes flickered to Selena as she sat up straight surprised at the sudden movement.
"Listen, Mister," Ileana began, glaring at Ryan, Xavier could see Ryan's Adam's apple bobbing, Ileana could be pretty scary when she wanted to be, "I can have crushes on fictional characters. You know why? Because they. Are. Fictional. Stop reacting like that. Yes, I have a crush on him, he is one of the best characters, hell he is the lead of the show and I loved it. I love that character. That, however, does not mean anything else. Is that clear?"
Ryan nodded without a word. Ileana too nodded her head and turned around. She sat down on the table and muttered, "Good." She was so over Ryan being possessive. Yes, she loves him, even when he is being possessive but of fictional characters? Really?
Xavier smirked at the scared look on his beta's face and averted his eyes, once again, to his own mate. They didn't speak properly ever since she had pushed him against the wall and glared at him. Well, he found that extremely cute, but he knew better than to tell that to his angry mate at that moment. He cleared his throat and entered the room.
Selena had smelled her mate's scent ever since he stood near the door, but she didn't dare look. Why? Because she had just pushed that alpha against a wall and proclaimed him to be hers and that was only the second conversation. However, the moment he stepped into the room, she became tensed.
Did he consider me to be disrespectful?
Is he angry at me for doing that?
Did I overreact?
Izzy snickered in her mind, 'Human? Stop it. Let him speak. Since when did you become so scared of all this?'
Selena remained quiet. Izzy had a point. She doesn't even know where she lost her confidence. She sighed, this wasn't her pack, she shouldn't have done that to their alpha.
He walked to the fridge and looked at Selena from the corner of his eye, she sat still, all her attention on the bowl of ice cream in front of her.
"Selena, can I talk to you for a second?" Xavier said as he took a bottle of water from the fridge.
Ileana and Ryan pretended they didn't hear anything, and Evelyn openly looked at her brother with a smirk. Ileana had already filled her in on the previous incidents. Ryan wasn't even bothered that she found the situation funny... of course she did.
"Sure," Selena said and got up, "You should eat something first." She knew he hadn't eaten anything since the very morning.
As soon as Selena finished this sentence, Xavier's stomach growled, making the big guy blush. The room was dead silent for a while before Ryan and Evelyn burst out laughing. Ileana too joined them and Selena grinned. This family reminded her of her own family. Once again Selena was reminded of her brother in the army. He still hadn't contacted her.
The trio left the room, leaving Xavier and Selena alone.
"You hungry?" Xavier asked.
"No, I just had an ice cream," Selena answered.
Xavier shrugged and took out some cooked meat. He didn't feel like cooking then, he'd rather just heat it up. A few moments later, both of them sat at the table. Selena just observed the man as he finished his food.
"You really didn't eat anything all day," She whispered. She didn't mean for Xavier to hear it.
"Yeah... the training since the morning and then as soon as I showered, Evelyn came in... spoke to her a bit and then I had a call scheduled with another alpha. I still have some paperwork to finish. So..."
"That's a lot of work."
"Yup." Xavier leaned back.
The two sat quietly for a while. Selena looked everywhere but at her mate and Xavier just looked at her, "I don't think that decision we came to the last time worked very well," Xavier said with a sad smile.
"Uh yeah... that wasn't very smart for two alphas."
Xavier chuckled, "Yeah.... It wasn't." He sat still for a while before he started again, "Actually, there is something you should know."
Selena didn't say anything, he looked at Xavier curiously. He took a deep breath but he remained still nonetheless.
"Xavier," Selena started, she hesitated, because she wanted to know what he had to say, she had always been too curious, but she didn't want him to say anything if speaking about it was hard for him, "You don't have to tell me if it is..."
"No," he interrupted her, "I should, this is important." Selena stayed quiet then, letting him prepare himself before he started speaking, "Ryan was not my only friend. We were a group of three, me, Ryan, my third in command, named Devon. A few months before you came to us, there was a rogue attack."
Selena's eyes widened, Rogue attacks were very rare.
"They went past our border patrol. Devon, he died that day," Selena sat still, "And the worst part was, we don't know how he was killed, if it was the rogues or not. It was impossible for the rogues to come in undetected. Devon was patrolling the area that day when that happened. So after a meeting with the leaders and dad, we had come to the conclusion that there had to be a traitor."
"Xavier..." Selena whispered, but Xavier continued.
"I lost one of my best friends that day. Devon was killed, and I couldn't give him justice. Since then, Ryan and I take care of the training and Roy, Devon's little brother, is our third in command."
"You were scared to trust me," Selena said, she didn't ask. She knew that was the truth.
Xavier sighed, "I just wanted to know you more before I sealed our bond. I didn't wanna rush into it. At that time, I didn't know what you wanted. Now I do. I apologize if I hurt you, Selena, but..."
"The pack comes first to an alpha." She finished for him and Xavier nodded, "My dad used to say that to me all the time."
Xavier smiled sadly, "It's the same for every alpha."
"Look, I am not ready to rush into it as well," Selena said, looking straight at him, "The last two years... it was not a pleasant experience. And I am definitely not ready for anything sexual right now."
Xavier's eyes became dark, he hadn't even considered that. He knew the hunters were very much likely to torture her physically. But sexually too? He fisted his hands as he stared at her, and he realised, he doesn't even know much about everything that she went through. He has no idea how bad it is but hearing her right now, he knew it was worse than he had initially thought. He wanted to know more, but he didn't wanna push her to talk about it.
"Also, I don't want to become a Luna just yet. I want to take my revenge. They didn't spare anyone, not even the babies. I want to avenge them as the Lunar Eclipse alpha, not as the Ferocious shadow's Luna."
Xavier smiled, even after everything she went through, the fact that she was still ready to face them and avenge her pack made him even more proud of her.
"Then let us just go with the flow. I guess we can take the human procedure now?" Selena was just going to ask what he meant but Xavier beat her to it, "So, mate, will you go on a date with me?"
