Adira
âYou never said what your idea was earlier?â I asked Zale as we sat together on the small sofa in the sitting room.
âOh, yeah, that.â He chuckled and I gave him the side eye,
âYes, that.â
âI may have mentioned to my sisters that you were lacking clothes.â He rubbed the back of his neck guiltily.
âYou did not?â I gasped at him, leaning back on the sofa and away from him like he had just slapped me.
âYou said the closest looked empty.â He shrugged.
âNo, no I did not,â I argued profusely, âWhat I said was that my clothes looked pathetic. I never said that I needed more clothes.â
âWellâ¦..â Zale drew out the word, âOops.â
âYouâre damn right, oops. You better fix this, Zale.â I jabbed a finger at his chest.
âBut, donât you need more clothes?â He dared to ask and I continued to glare daggers at him.
âWhatâs wrong with what I wear? Do you have a problem with it?â I barked, âBecause I promise you I wonât be wearing dresses and blouses anytime soon.â
âNo, no, thatâs not what Iâm insinuating.â He backtracked quickly.
âYou can go shopping with your sisters because Iâm sure as shit not.â I ended the discussion sternly, crossing my arms over my chest and sinking back into the couch with a huff of air.
âThey are going to kill me.â He mumbled, staring straight ahead.
âThat is not my problem.â I replied snarkily.
I caught Zale staring at me from the corner of my eye and my face, despite my better judgment, cracked a smile.
âWhat if I make them promise to only go to stores you want to go to and give them a time limit?â He bargained, âAnd Iâll give you my credit card.â
âYou think you can buy my forgiveness?â I quired.
âNo, Iâm prepared to grovel for it.â Zale said, dropping off the couch and kneeling at my legs.
âSeriously?â I was not amused.
âPlease, save me from the rafe of my sisters and my stupid assumptions, and go shopping with them for just a few hours. Iâm begging you, Kyrre. They will kill me if I go back on a promise of a date with their new sister.â He was damn good at groveling.
âWhat are you going to do for me if I say yes?â I decided to fight with fire.
I saw a spark in Zaleâs eyes that he quickly extinguished.
âIâll always give you whatever you want, Adira.â He said in a voice that should be sinful.
âThatâs a cop out.â I argued and he smirked crookedly at me.
âI promised you a special day tomorrow, I guess Iâll just have to make it extra special if you agree to go with my sisters.â He said,
âWhen do I have to go?â I asked with a sigh.
âTomorrow morning? Before our date.â He arched his eyebrow.
âFine.â I groaned out.
Zaleâs face broke out into a grin and he leaned forward on the couch to kiss my forehead.
âI have the best mate.â He cooed, taking my hands and pulling me up from the sofa.
âAs if you got to choose me.â I said in a teasing voice, but Zale took it very seriously.
âI would have.â He said, his eyes pinching together.
âYou would have chosen a 27-year-old orphan whoâs too hard headed, not at all emotional, and the least feminine she-wolf on the planet?â I deadpanned.
âYes to all of those things,â He said seriously, âBut, you left out, impossibly strong, cunning, witty, and much smarter than her equally hard headed dragon mate.â He smirked.
I rolled my eyes at him,
âRight.â I snorted.
âIâm serious, Adira,â His expression darkened, âFate pulled us together, but the love that grows between us is a choice.â
âYouâre a smooth talker, Ohlson, Iâll give you that.â I cut through the tension with a smirk and Zaleâs face lightened into a crooked smile.
âIâll show you that Iâm a man of action, not just words,â He promised, leaning down to nuzzle his face against my neck for a moment, âI should let you sleep. Itâs been a long day.â His voice rumbled in his chest.
Zale pulled back and placed a chaste kiss on my cheek before releasing me entirely.
âDo you need anything?â His eyes widened, âOh, you didnât get to eat dinner.â
âThatâs alright, I wasnât really that hungry.â I confessed.
âAdriaâ¦.â His concerned voice trailed off.
âIâm fine, Zale, just tired.â I sighed.
âOkay, well, if youâre sure,â He paused for a moment and I nodded, âIâll let my sisters know that youâll join them tomorrow for a few hours. Iâm sure theyâll want to leave after breakfast. Iâll make our plans for the afternoon.â He said,
âOkay.â I still wasnât completely on board with this whole shopping thing, but I would indulge him for the time being.
âGoodnight, Adira.â The way he smiled at me was so unbelievably sexy that I had to look away to keep from blushing.
âGoodnight, Zale.â I muttered.
âSweet dreams.â He whispered before slipping out of my room and shutting the door.
I sighed loudly and flung myself down on the bed, face first, screaming into the comforter. I flopped back around like a fish out of water and glared at the ceiling for a longtime.
I decided to take a hot shower, changed into some comfortable clothes, and crawled into bed after an impossibly long day.
