Let me go, Mr. Hill [by Shallow South] Chapter 548 Catherine laughed sarcastically. âWhy didnât Sarah come home earlier if she wasnât dead? How is it my fault that her man is married when she was the one who returned late?â
âItâs not that she didnât want to come home but she felt undeserving of Shaun. Itâs because sheâ¦â
Rodneyâs eyes welled up. âYou have no idea what she has been through.â
âI donât and I donât plan to.â Her lips twitched.
He glared back. âCatherine, how can you be this cold-blooded?â
ââ¦â
She was speechless. âI know you love Sarah but please donât use that to hurt others. You want me to be sympathetic to her? Sure, but what about my marriage and my children? Whoâs going to pity me?â
âDo you know how they met?â
He took a long puff of the cigarette. âShaun met Sarah when he was sent to the mental hospital. Thatâs right, she wasnât ill but she was sent there by the Neeson family nonetheless. His condition gradually turned better with her positivity and kindness. She was like his sunshine during a gloomy day. It was also because of him that I got to know Sarah. Sheâs a really good person. Even when they werenât studying in the same school, she wrote him encouraging letters every day from primary school till after they grew up and became successful in life. Sheâs accompanied him for 20 years.
âRight, youâre married to Shaun but that was when he thought she was dead. Heâs a responsible man, not to mention now that youâre pregnant. Do you think itâs nice to be sandwiched in between them?â
Every word that came out from Rodneyâs mouth pierced through Catherineâs heart like sharp knives.
She had no idea that the two of them had met in the mental hospital.
âSarah studied medicine because of Shaun. Sheâs dedicating her whole life to him,â he said coldly.
âWhy canât you give them your blessing?â
She laughed sarcastically. âWho will give me and my children blessings then?â
She turned around to push the heavy wooden door. âRodney, you canât make someone miserable simply because you love Sarah. Your values are crooked because of that woman. A person like you should never get married so as to not hurt others.â
Instead of going back to the hospital ward, she walked in the other direction and left the hospital.
Catherine walked along the roadside for a long time. Shaun called when her feet were beginning to feel sore. âElle said you came to the hospital. Where are you? Why donât I see you?â
âI left,â she replied flatly, âWhen are you coming home?â
âCathy, sorry. Sarah is injured because of me and Thomas still isnât here. I might stay for a bit longerâ¦â
âYup, itâs fine.â
She hung up the phone and headed to Freyaâs house.
The latter was packing her suitcase.
âYouâre leaving soon?â
âYup, next month. I havenât gotten the visa yet though. Iâm planning to deliver all this stuff back to Melbourne.â
Freya looked at her friendâs pale face in concern. âWhatâs the matter?â
âNothing. Iâm just exhausted.â Catherine hugged her friend and tears flowed down her cheeks uncontrollably. âYouâre leaving soon. It seems like everyone in this unfamiliar city sees me as the enemy. Iâm afraid I canât hold on for much longer.â
âWhat if⦠I stay?â Freya said through gritted teeth.
âNo, forget it. You canât help me even if you stay.â Catherine wiped her tears with the back of her hands.
âItâs just that so much has happened lately. Sarah has started to make her moves. Shaun says heâs not going to get back together with her but I know that he still cares about her.â
Freya sighed at the sight of the struggling woman. âCathy, I know youâre trying to save your marriage because of the children but it seems like the effort is one-sided. Itâs going to wear you out. Why donât you just take a break?â
âFreyaâ¦â
