Let me go, Mr. Hill [by Shallow South] Chapter 176 âI want to know where you went last night,â Shaun repeated himself in a low voice. âCatherine, how dare you? I was only away for one night and you had already spent the night elsewhere.â
Looking at the flurry of emotions that moved across the manâs handsome face like a storm, Catherine shrunk back out of instinct. âAre you making assumptions about me again?â
His body tensed up before he replied impatiently, âIf it hadnât been for the previous misunderstanding, do you think you can still lay here in bed in one piece?â
She lowered her head. âI went out shopping with Freya last night. After that, we had supper and went for karaoke. As we were exhausted, we fell asleep there and only went home after we woke up.â
âAre you sure youâre not lying?â He narrowed his eyes dangerously.
âI didnât do anything wrong.â She pouted to look more pitiable. âIâm just really stressed out lately. Look, Iâm only 22 years old but ever since marrying you, Iâve not been out for karaoke or even supper. I come home right after work at the same time every evening to prepare your dinner. My life is like that of a middle-aged woman.â
A look of displeasure washed over his face. âAre you complaining that your life is boring?â
âNo, not at all,â she replied instantly, âBut itâs important to have leisure time. Why donât you try asking Chase?â
âWhy should I? Do you think he knows you well?â He threw her a cold glance.
âItâs not like that. I just have the impression that heâs the partying type.â She shook her head aggressively like a drowning chick trying to get above water. âBut youâre husband material. Look at your style of living. Youâre the absolute model of a perfect man.â
âIs that really what you think?â He bent forward slowly. His charming face came closer toward her eyes.
She could feel her heart pounding under his intense stare. Nodding, she answered affirmatively, âIâve never said anything truer than this.â
âRemember, this shouldnât happen again.â A helpless expression spread across his face as he pinched her cheeks. He had loosened his limits again and again for this woman.
She grimaced in pain. âWhy have you come home anyway? Arenât you supposed to return tomorrow?â
He snorted and pursed his thin lips.
Countless thoughts flashed across the womanâs mind as she looked at him. âWere you worried about me?â she blurted out of the blue.
âDream on. I came home because work was completed earlier than expected,â he denied it with his face turned away.
Catherine would have believed that in the past but she had come to realize that this man had the habit of saying the opposite of his thoughts.
A surge of courage washed through her without warning. âI donât believe you.â
âCatherine Jones,â Shaun shouted, looking slightly embarrassed.
âDonât yell at me. Iâm not deaf.â She summoned her courage and wrapped her arms around his neck.
Her eyes twinkled with brilliance like the clear moon.
He held his breath unknowingly. There was an impulse to lock his lips with hers.
It had come to his realization that he loved kissing her. However, what came out of her lips next dismissed that idea of his completely.
âDid you help me with the sketches?â
She lowered her gaze and drew circles on his chest with her finger. Simultaneously, she felt his body tense up.
Her lips quivered slightly. She already knew the answer.
This man was way more delicate than he looked.
âAre you going to imagine next that I like you?â He snorted despite being exposed.
âYup,â she admitted.
âDreamââ
Before he could finish his sentence, however, she lifted her head to kiss his thin lips.
Nothing nice ever came out of this mean mouth of his.
His eyes widened in shock. It was really something when a woman took initiative.
After the man stopped arguing, she finally retreated and pulled his ear playfully. âStop saying that to me.â
