Through the point of view of Beatrix
The half of the first day goes by pretty quickly, and lunch rolls around just in time. I make it to the lunchroom, and try not to let my jaw drop when I see how grand it actually is.
The entire room is huge, partially filled with beautiful and every beautiful table is accompanied with different food, fruits, beverages, and sandwiches.
The other half is filled with a seating area that resembles nothing like the lunchrooms I saw in Seattle.
There are instead couches and booths filled with students conversing and eating. Huge televisions line the white walls and each play a different show on Netflix.
Seeing this being just the lunchroom makes me wonder how much people pay for their kids to attend here.
"Miss?" I jump at the clearing of a throat and turn toward the server staring at me expectantly.
I look behind me and see that I've held the line up with my incessant staring.
"Oh, um .. you go first." I gesture for the person behind me to go ahead, grabbing a plate after them. My cheeks burn embarrassment, so I attempt to console myself by putting a fruit tart on my plate.
I grab a couple other things too; Some strawberries, a sandwich, and a cappuccino. After I'm satisfied with my picking, I take my food back to my dorm and eat there.
While I sip on the cappuccino, I send my mother a text of how I'm doing and take a picture of my dorm for her.
She tells me she loves it, and asks me if I'll start decorating soon.
The bell rings before I can reply and I put on my backpack and leave out the door. Before I head to my next class, I take my tray back to the lunchroom.
My next class is Sculpture and I'm actually happy to go to class, sculpting used to be my favorite thing to do back in Seattle. That, combined with the rain used to be so relaxing to me.
I open the door and see that it's looking a little sparse in the class, but I put that it on it being early. After I've chosen my seat the bell rings and the professor comes in.
She welcomes us back and says that we'll be starting off easy and making a simple mug to present to the class.
The professor also shows us where the clay is, where our sculpting tools are, and where our water bottles are. With that information dispersed, she tells us to get to work.
I get up, along with the rest of the students, and walk over to where the clay is. We each get a two and a half slab of clay to use, along with five individual tools to use to mold the clay into a mug.
Before sitting down, I grab my water bottle and place all my materials on the table I sit at. The teacher announces that she will play classical music for us but we're allowed to use our phones as well.
I grab my airpods out of my bag and plug them into my ears. I start off by listening to BTS' Love Maze, sighing happily as the familiar melody of the song begins to play.
Getting to work is pretty easy, I begin by molding the bottom of the mug and cut a small circle as the foundation. As the song goes on, I start adding the sides of the mug.
It takes long, but I always find that being the most beautiful and fun part of sculpting.. the attention to detail that it takes.
The professor lets us know to start putting our things back and tells us she will collect our sculptures until tomorrow's lesson. I leave my mug on the table but grab my other materials and put them away carefully.
The bell rings just as I putting my backpack on and I sling it over my shoulders as I head to my last class.
Spanish.
I was pretty advanced in Spanish, having learned it in school since kindergarten but I still felt weary. Classes in college seemed easy now, but I knew in the near future that would change.
As I head to the class, I try to push thoughts like that out of my head and focus on one thing at a time.
Mom says that's best to do when I feel my anxiety growing.
I open the door and see the class room already half full. Gripping my backpack straps nervously, I walk to one of the only desks available and take a seat.
As I'm getting out my notebook and pencil, the bell rings and I feel someone's presence in the seat next to me.
Up until now, I had been sitting alone all day, and hadn't really paired myself up with anyone. So I was .. rightfully nervous.
"Alright, class! Welcome to Intermediate Spanish. I'm your professor, Mr. Grimm. As most of you know, whoever you are currently sitting with will be your partner for the rest of the term." His announcement makes my eyes widen in surprise and he gestures toward the whiteboard in front of him.
"Today will be an easy day .. since it is everyone's first day back. How about we start with introducing yourself to your partner in Spanish and have the other write down the conversation." He finishes by telling us if we hand in the assignment early we may also leave early.
"Hey," The simple word is spoke nonchalantly, but still has me turning my head to put a face to the voice
The first thing I do is lock eyes with beautiful brown eyes like mine, and quickly realize a guy is speaking .. to me.
