Beta Xavier Costa - POV
I was holding the phone so tight, which made the crack on the screen widen, and that was when I let it go. All this time, I thought that one of my enemies was responsible for this accident, but looks like it was someone that Eleanor knew.
I quickly took out my phone and dialed Marquez's number. The phone rang for a long time when he finally picked it up. âIs she awake?â that was the first question he asked me.
âNo, she is still the same. But I called you to ask a favor.â I said.
âWhat is it?â
âI want you to track a number and tell me from where the call came from.â
âOkay, you text me the phone number, and I will get back to you in a while,â Marquez answered.
âSure,â I said and then disconnected the call. After sending the number to him, I patiently waited till he called me back. It was not easy to wait. An hour passed by, and I was starting to lose hope, when I was about to go and find Marquez, my phone began to ring.
âHello?â
âHey, I tried to trace the number multiple times. But it was like that number was nowhere in the world.â
âWhat do you mean?â
âIt's a dead end, Xavier,â he said, and the line was quiet again. âWas that a threatening call, Xavier?â
âA message, it was a message, and it was sent to Eleanor.â
Eleanor Amato - POV
âEllie?â I heard Ericaâs voice, but I felt like we were miles apart. âEllie, wake up.â
âErica?â I felt like I was trapped somewhere, and everywhere I looked, it was pitch black. âErica, where are we?â
âWe are in your subconscious mind, Ellie.â
âAre we trapped?â
âI don't know, I just gained consciousness,â she answered. I tried to reach out to something or move my hand, but it was like I was not in control of my body.
âHow can I gain my senses back?â I asked her while looking around. The fear within me started to slowly build while the darkness was consuming my mind.
âStay calm, Ellie. We can figure a way out.â Erica consoled me, but I knew that I could not do that. I have always been afraid of the dark, and this feeling of dread and emptiness was only adding fuel to the fire.
Suddenly, I felt like I was falling, I didn't have anything to hold onto, and this made me scream. I screamed my lungs out and abruptly opened my eyes. âArgh!â I heard the hysterical scream of a woman ringing in my ear.
âEleanor, calm down.â I heard someone say, and that was when I realized that the scream was coming from me. I frantically looked around the surroundings and saw that I was in a hospital room. Xavier was standing near the doorway held by two warriors, but he looked distressed. âEleanor?â I peeled my eyes away from him and looked at the doctor.
âWhat happened to me?â I asked the doctor, sounding confused.
Why am I even in the hospital?
âDon't you remember what happened to you?â she asked me with a frown, and this made me concentrate on the last thing that I remembered. Well, the last thing I remember was being in Elizaâs room after I broke my arm.
I looked down at my arm to see that it had completely healed. âYou were in a car accident.â the doctor slowly explained while I tried my best to remember that, and that was when I remembered everything that happened.
âMy god! A trailer crashed head-on.â I exclaimed, and I saw a relieved look on the doctorâs face.
âYes, and you sustained quite a lot of injuries,â she said, and that was when I looked down at my body. There were no bandages or plasters, instead, I was only left with the faint scars from where they had stitched me up.
âYou are hiding something from me,â I mumbled as I looked up at the doctor while I saw Xavier walking to my side.
âEleanor, you had lost a significant amount of blood, and you slipped into a coma.â the doctor explained. My eyes widened in shock and surprise.
I was in a coma.
I turned my attention toward Xavier, and that was when I properly looked at him. A small beard had grown on his face, and there were eyebags under his eyes. His clothes looked wrinkled like he had been wearing them for a very long time.
âHow long was in a coma?â I asked out loud while I silently prayed that it shouldn't be for years. Because I don't think I can live with the fact that I have lost a whole year or two in my life.
âAbout a week.â the doctor said.
âA week! That is all?â I asked her, and she nodded her head.
âIt is very rare for werewolves to be in a coma for more than a month, Eleanor,â she explained, and I nodded my head. âOkay, so can I check you over to make sure that everything is properly healed?â she asked me, and I nodded my head. After she was done with an examination, the doctor and all the nurses left the room, leaving me alone with Xavier.
âI am sorry,â Xavier spoke after a while.
âWhat are you apologizing for?â I asked him, confused.
âIt was because of my carelessness you had to go through this pain. I shouldn't have yelled at you.â
âAnd I shouldn't have doubted you,â I said.
âI guess we are even now,â Xavier asked me, and I shrugged my shoulder.
âMaybe, anyway, do you know who tried to kill us?â I asked him, and I saw a dark look cross his face.
âNo, but I have a feeling that I will be able to catch that person soon,â he answered, and I nodded my head. âXavier?â
âYes?â
âCan we go home? I don't feel comfortable staying in this place anymore.â I asked him, and I saw something in his eyes, but that feeling was soon gone, and he nodded his head.
