I stopped at the room with the number 408 on it as I took in a deep breath. Starting at a new school is never easy. Being known as the new girl. One wrong move and your known as the idiot of the school.

First impressions matter.

I swallowed my pride and knocked on the door before opening it with a smile.

Yet it immediately dropped when I noticed the annoying guy was one of the students, still smirking.

"Yes?" The teacher asked raising a brow at the sudden interruption.

I gave her the slip. "I'm Avery"

She scanned over the letter and nodded. "Take a seat, next time you come late there will be a detention slip" she warned me.

I nodded stiffly before making a move to find a seat. However the only spot left was next to the annoying guy. If I had to spend another minute with that guy I know I won't survive.

"There's no more seats" I lied ignoring the annoying guys smirk.

"Yes there's one right there" the teacher pointed to the seat next to the annoying guy.

"I think you need to get your eyes checked" the annoying guy spoke receiving some burns and oh's.

I ignored his comment and turned to the teacher with an innocent look, "I'm sorry but I'm allergic"

"Allergic to what?" The teacher asked confused.

"To an arrogant, self-obsessed, jerk that has major mental issues-" I then look at the annoying guy. "- No seriously you should get your head checked, having no brain is an issue" I smiled sweetly at him.

The students laughed, trying not to giggle at his reaction.

"Sit down" the teacher glared at me.

I made my way to the seat and made eye contact with him. He just smirked at me.

What's with him and smirking?

The period bell went and it was lunchtime.

I sat down with Lara and Chantelle and waited for the rest to show up.

Three boys sat down in front of us. One of them I noticed was the annoying guy.

"It's you" I groaned in disappointment.

"It's so good to see you too" he smiled at me.

"Have you guys met before?" Chantelle asked.

"Yes, we seem to get along quite well. Isn't that right Avery?" The annoying guy asked me.

"More like enemies" I laughed sarcastically.

"Anyway Avery this is Duncan. My friend that is a boy" Chantelle introduced.

Oh so that's Chantelle's boyfriend.

I exchanged glances with Laura and laughed under my breath.

Duncan gave Chantelle a curious glance before returning back to his normal smirk.

The day was finally over as we retreated back to the car. I couldn't help but feel a bit unsure of Duncan.

"Don't you get  an odd feeling about Duncan?" I asked out of the blue.

"No?" Chantelle replied confused.

Lara thought for a minute. "Actually I sort of do" she laughed humoressly. "He gives me all these chills and like he's not even a human being. Maybe he's an alien" Lara gave me a look.

I rolled my eyes at her. "I'm being serious"

"Look, I trust him so you don't need to worry" Chantelle reassured me.

I gave her an unconvinced look.

We dropped Lara off and went to our house. House? Well it's technically not my house.

As soon as we entered the house we went straight to the kitchen to get something to eat. I surprisingly grabbed an apple while Chantelle grabbed a packet of chips.

"Xavier!" Chantelle yelled out in a slightly angry tone.

There was no reply so Chantelle strolled to his office. I curiously followed her.

She pushed opened the office door and sat down on the chair leaving me no choice but to stand by the door.

"So apparently you declined Duncan's offer. Is this true?" Chantelle asked in a harsh tone.

"Well-"

Chantelle slammed her hand on the table. "Just answer the damn question"

"Yes I declined Duncan's offer" Xavier replied casually.

"Why?"

"Chantelle I don't trust the guy. We've been over this" Xavier said in a calm tone.

Chantelle let out an angry sigh. "Everybody but you trusts Duncan"

"Does Avery trust him?" Xavier asked shifting his eyes to me.

I looked between Xavier's blank face and Chantelle's glare. If I agree with Xavier, Chantelle would never forgive me. But something's weird about Duncan.

"He gives me an odd feeling" I avoided eye contact with Chantelle.

"What would she know? She just met him anyway" Chantel yelled angrily and stormed out of the room.

"That went well" I muttered.

"I need you to do something for me" Xavier stated rather than asked.

"Sure thing, sweetheart" I smiled sweetly.

"Look I'm being serious" Xavier's replied in a serious tone.

"And I am to" I shrugged.

Xavier let out a deep sigh. "I need you to get information from Duncan"

I felt and probably looked shocked. "Me?"

"No, Chantelle" Xavier replied sarcastically.

"How do I get information from Duncan?" I asked ignoring his previous statement.

"You go over to his house for a project for school or something. I don't know. What do teens do these days?" Xavier said desperately.

What do teens to these days? Who the hell asks that? Wait, now I remember, he lives under a rock.

"Why are you going through this much effort?" I asked knowing the answer.

"Because I don't trust him" Xavier lied.

"Or maybe your just looking out for your big sister" I replied smiling innocently thinking how sweet that is.

"That's none of your business. I need to know if you'll do it or not?" Xavier asked with his cold stare. However I could see that Xavier was desperate. Despite my stubbornness I knew he had good intentions, he's just looking out for his sister and I respected that.

Maybe there was something normal about Xavier. Yes he's ruthless and a killer, but he cares for his family.

"Fine" I agreed making my way to the door.

Just as I made my way to the door I swiftly turned around making Xavier look up in annoyance.

"In one condition" I smiled evilly.

"You have to hug Chantelle-" I started.

"No" Xavier instantly replied.

"Ok then. Good luck getting someone else to do it" I shrugged innocently and turned around to leave.

I turned really slowly, giving him longer to debate it. I knew what he was going to say. Even though he would rather jump off a cliff than to give a hug, I was the only way.

And he owed me. I'd be going behind Chantelle's back.

"Fuck my life" I heard Xavier mutter.

"Wait" Xavier said looking pained.

"Yes?" I turned around smiling in victory.

"Fine" Xavier said in defeat.

I took my hand out and Xavier shook it glaring at me.

"What's that smell?" I asked innocently.

Xavier looked at me confused.

"The sweet smell of victory" I announced receiving a scowl.

"Just do what I said" Xavier said rubbing his forehead in annoyance.

I turned around and walked out of the office with a smile on my face. Who could've know torturing Xavier would be so fun?
