Captivation Want Nothing But You Chapter 168 by Adolf Dunne âWhat are you doing?â Ivan coldly asked as he exited the elevator, catching a glimpse of the medicine bottle in the womanâs hand. âMr. Chavez!â The receptionist gasped and took a step back. Ivan quickly went to her and snatched the medicine bottle from her grasp. âWhere did you get this? Who told you to throw it away? Answer me!â Victor had an international video conference earlier. During the meeting, he suffered a stomachache. He asked Ivan to bring the medicine he had kept in his office, but it was unexpectedly all used up.
Ivan called Lukas and asked him to bring some medicine. The latter never showed up, so Ivan decided to get the bottle himself. However, as soon as he stepped out of the elevator, he noticed that the receptionist was about to throw away the medicine Victor had usually taken.
The receptionist stuttered, âIâ¦um⦠Rachel brought it here. I thought the drug may be poisonous, so Iâ¦â
âSo you decided to throw it away? What gives you the right to decide throwing away Mr. Sullivanâs things?â Ivan narrowed his eyes. âI⦠Iâ¦â The receptionist turned paler by the second, tears running down her cheeks.
Clenching the medicine bottle tightly in his hand, Ivan gritted his teeth and said, âI will inform Mr. Sullivan about this. And you⦠Prepare yourself for the worst. Surely youâve got some explanation for this. Get out of here if you canât justify your actions!â After saying that, Ivan turned around and took the elevator, heading straight to the 33rd floor. The receptionistâs face was grim, and she couldnât stand still. She took a few steps back and fell to the floor after colliding with the trash bin.
When Ivan arrived at the 33rd floor, the meeting had just ended. He knocked on the door first before coming in. He then proceeded to pour some water for Victor, and handed him two pills. Victor didnât get enough rest this week. He had to work overtime for two consecutive days after coming home from Switzerland. The stomachache seemed to worsen and his pallor wasnât any better. He took the pills and swallowed them without drinking water. âMr. Sullivan, it was Miss Bennet who brought this medicine,â
Ivan said as he placed down the glass of water, glancing at his boss. âRachel?â
âYes. I was going to get it myself, but I happened to see the receptionist about to throw the medicine away. I stopped her and asked why she did it. Then she told me Miss Bennet was the one who sent the medicine.â Victor frowned and pursed his thin lips. What Rachel said to Lukas two days ago suddenly came to his mind. He felt his stomach lurch. âHow long has she been gone?â Victor asked in a low voice. âWho?â Ivan leaned closer because he didnât get who he was asking about.
âRachel.â âShe just left when I saw the receptionist trying to throw the medicine away, so Iâd say around five minutes. If you head to her now, you should be able to catch up with her.â Ivan said.
Victor gave Ivan a cold look as soon as he finished speaking. âWho told you I was going after her?â Ivan gulped and immediately said, âIâm sorry. I thought too much.â Victorâs face remained deadpan. After a while, he stood up, grabbed his coat, and prepared to leave.
Ivan assumed he was going to check the company, so he decided to follow him. âIâm going to rest in the car. Donât follow me,â said Victor. âYes, sir.â Ivan came to a halt as Victor entered the CEOâs private elevator. He watched as the doors shut When he saw that the number on the elevator screen was fixed on â1,â Ivan burst into laughter. He never thought that his boss would be so mendacious.
On the other side, Rachel was returning to Sue Garden after leaving the medicine at the front desk. The kitten should be there by now. However, just a few steps out of the door, she heard a familiar voice.
âRachel.â
Rachel turned to follow the voiceâs direction, and to her surprise, a familiar figure was walking towards her. âOh, Roger. Itâs you.â Rachel was surprised. She didnât expect to coincidentally run into him in this place. She noticed he was dressed in a formal suit. âAre you here for business?â âNo, I just happened to pass by.â Roger gently smiled at her. He hadnât seen Rachel since she got hospitalized. He was unsure of how to face Rachel. Being the Jimenez familyâs heir, he was too busy to visit her. Clara had told him that Rachel was fine now. When he saw her standing in front of him, safe and sound, he felt even more relieved.
âWhat a coincidence!â Rachel cheerfully replied. âYouâ¦â He wanted to tell her a lot of things, but Roger didnât know why he couldnât voice it out loud when Rachel was standing in front of him. âWhat? Do I look weird? Is there something on my face?â âNothing.â Roger chuckled. âI just donât know what to say. I feel a bit guilty. If I had gone with you to go look for Riley, you probably wouldnât have been in danger. Iâm sorry.â
Noticing the remorse on his face, Rachel shook her head and smiled. âIâm fine now, donât worry about it.
Besides, she was my responsibility. I was supposed to keep an eye on her, but in the middle of everything, we got split up and it took a long while before we could find her.â âRachel, it wasnât your fault.
If only I wasâ¦â âHold it!â Rachel interjected, helplessly smiling, âAre we going to just stand here and blame ourselves for what happened? If we keep this up, it feels like I should be sorry for going out that day. If I hadnât left home, I wouldnât have met you and Riley wouldnât have gotten lost.â
âI didnât mean that,â Roger replied. âI know. Itâs just how I feel.â Rachel shrugged. âBut itâs all in the past now. Thereâs no point in talking about it and blaming ourselves. This topic is over, okay?â She winked at him. âFine, you win.â Roger smiled as he looked at her unusually playful expression. âAnyway, I heard from my sister that youâve already taken an ultrasound. Whatâs the result?â âA healthy little baby.â A sweet smile curled at the corners of her mouth as she spoke of the baby in her tummy.
Roger was silently hurt by this. His eyes fell on Rachelâs abdomen. She was carrying Victorâs child. âBy the way, congratulations! Your sister told me that you have officially taken over Jimenez Group.â Rogerâs heart skipped a beat when he looked into her beautiful crescent shaped eyes. âThatâs it? Thatâs all I get as your friend?â
âWell⦠How about I treat you to something?â Rachel contemplated for a while. âBut it hasnât been that long since I had breakfast, and it seems a little early to have lunch.â âWe donât have to eat.â Roger fixed his eyes on her face and pursed his lips out of nervousness. âThen, let me buy you a gift instead. What would you like?â
âRachelâ¦â
âWhat?â
Rachel raised her brows and clocked her head to the side. But before she could speak, Roger suddenly stepped forward and hugged her. She was taken aback and tried to struggle. âRachel, let me stay like this for a minute. Just this hug is enough.â Roger said gently. Rachel hesitated for a second, pressing her lips together.
Then, she raised her hands and returned his hug. âCongratulations, Roger!â âThank you.â Roger smiled, feeling Rachelâs warmth against him. Victor was standing not far away, watching everything unfold clearly. He clenched his fists, blue veins bulging out at the back of his hands. His face soon became devoid of expression, making him look cold and intimidating.
