BEEP!
BEEP!
BEEP!
BEE-
I slammed my hand over the alarm blaring besides my ear. I curse the night for not lasting longer annoyed for not getting any sleep in the comfort of my bed. I saw my laptop open in front of me and scattered papers under my arms. I sit up straight from my glass desk, but I felt instant pain on the left side of my neck. I would have thought that after waking up in this position I would have gotten used to it. Unfortunately the pain is still there. I moved my neck slowly from side to side trying to fade away the stiffness. After a moment I looked at the alarm 4:00am.
Time for my daily runs. Everyday I ran the perimeter of my land to patrol the area for a strange scent indicating trespass and to exercise. What was the saying kill two birds with one stone?
I looked down at the papers I had been working on last night. I remembered that I have school today and my essay for English is due so I spent my afternoon writing my essay after spending the whole day running to get back home early. I got home early in the morning and spent half my day going over a contract with a costumer. I was just conversing about the late adjustments to the blue print and the ending cost. I finished sealing the contract with my costumer yesterday and was ready turn in the plan to Jay, he models the blue print for safety reasons.
I had returned from traveling to meet with a London pack and then dealing with the southern pack that was having trouble with rogues lately. I had to deal with the alphas, which was another story but never less I took a couple for men and eliminated the rogues. Most of my men stayed behind because the fight injured some of them and they had to rest. I on the other hand had to deal with my school issue and had to return home. I had been gone for about three weeks, one of them for thanksgiving break. I had to return to school because I was already a two weeks late.
I closed my eyes for a bit, too tired to move an inch. But ended up getting up and searching for a sport bra, shorts, and the first shoes I spotted from my walk-in closet.
I placed my clothes on my king sized dark blue bed and looked out my glass floor length windows next to my bed that covered the whole wall. I could still see the bright stars out that can only be seen in an area with no artificial city lights.
My pack is located miles away from the city. It is to give us the freedom to shift and not care to be seen by humans. All of my land is private property based on paper and in werewolf laws is mine too. I saw the field of beautiful strong trees spread out as far as the eye can see.
I walked over to the windows and closed the curtains blocking the breathtaking view. I stood in front of my bed stripped from my clothes an oversized t-shirt and changed into the cloth I picked out for my run.
Once I changed I headed to my grey designed bathroom. It had two rooms but no walls in between in one room was a white tub on my right and sink to my left with a mirror above it. Straight ahead was the next smaller room no bigger than four feet wide and a few meters in length with a toilet in left corner and to my right was my favorite glass shower cubical with gray horizontal lines across it. I brushed my teeth and did my business.
I headed down the stairs of my two storied house and into the kitchen. Thomas, my beta, sometimes slept here so he had his own guest room. When I began having migraines, I stayed in this house to avoid the noise from the pack house. Which was in walking distance from here but was hidden by the trees. I had an office here to do my work in silence but still preferred my space in the pack house. My migraines were a bit different that the usual one. Mine would sometimes last less than a day over just a few hours to weeks. They could get so bad I would sometimes end I end up under medical supervision for weeks but that only happened once.
Yesterday I started getting a headache and needed to finish my work so I headed over here to work in silence.
As I stepped off the last step of the stairs I smelled Thomas's scent and knew he was in the lighted kitchen already waiting for me for our run. It had been a kind of tradition for us to take our daily runs together but over the last year we have been busy and rarely ran together anymore. I picked my pace to the kitchen and saw my best friend and loyal companion flicking through his phone. Far to concentrated to notice I entered the room. It took him about half a minute to begin smelling the air and quickly turned his head to me with a wide smile on his face.
"Alpha," he said with the biggest smile he could give me.
"Thomas."I giving nodded to show acknowledgment. No matter how close I was to others I still had a personality to distance myself from them. Thomas had dirty blond hair and hazel eyes that caught attention of many females. He was muscular and your typical popular high school football player. But he was also kind and was one of the very few living beings on this Earth that could tolerate me and my anger tantrums. He understood me and that was why he had been my left hand since we were kids.
"You cold hearted soul. How can you just stand there after being away from me for so long. I would have at least expected a declaration of your undying love for me." He gasped like I had just committed something for the highest treason. I just rolled my eyes.
Suddenly his wide smile dropped and he instantly had a serious one. His eyes scanned every inch of my face. "Ruedan." He called me by my full name. I slightly winced at the sound of my name. He knew how uncomfortable i felt when my name was called. He only ever called me by that name when he was serious.
"Have you even taken time to rest since your flight?" He asked scolding me probably the slightly red eyes that I couldn't wash out.
"Oh please Thomas don't start." I avoided him, looking out the window towards the total dark forest outside.
He seemed to be thinking of a way to win the argument and signed, "Fine but today we are postponing today's meeting to tomorrow and you are going to rest." I knew we would be staying on this discussion back and forth for the whole morning so I nodded just to give him a peace of mind. Anyway I had to review all the decisions that have been made since I left. But I wasn't going to let him know that.
"If that is all then let's go we have only an hour today because I have to finish homework from school." I said heading out the door.
"When will you learn to stop leaving things at the last minute?" He asked following and started to stretch beside me.
"As long as I don't get caught I'll never learn." I said as I finished my stretches and left running.
***********************************
On our run there was no sign of any rouges, lucky. Thomas has been filling me in with what had happened in the pack. Simple stuff like the 2 werewolves that had found there mates and the group of rogues that had been found and killed the week before. He had left me the information for them on my desk knowing I would want to look into it later. We stopped speaking after that because I got angry about the rogues and made him run until his whole body ached. I did usually get upset when rogues were mention. Ever since my past with them, I had despited them.
At the end of the run Thomas was soaking with sweat meanwhile I wish I could go for another 10 miles but I need to finish my homework before school started. I was strange like that. I had more energy and stamina than regular werewolf not only because I am Alpha but became of my powerful bloodline. I headed to my room for a hot steamy shower to relax my sore muscles from the fight.
I changed into a white long sleeve turtleneck shirt with light blue ripped jeans and white shoes.
I sat down on my rolling chair at my desk and finished the essay and printed it. I turned to my clock and saw it was already 6:30. I saw the sky still dark when it should have begun to show the sun. I slipped the essay and other homework I finished yesterday into my bag. I pulled my hair into a ponytail before going downstairs. I dropped my bag next to Thomas's bag eyes on the fluffy goodness of pancakes he was making. I put out two palates, served one glass of juice for Thomas and one glass of milk for me. Thomas served me and himself some pancakes and we instantly started eating.
"So Mason has informed the principle of your request to finish high school early. He collected all the paper work and other documents of the classes you took to prove that you have requirements to get your GED early." He informed me and placed a folder of papers in front of me. Mason was my delta and a hell of one too. He was always ahead of me with everything ready.
I nodded and stuffed the folder into my bag. I had decided to finish school early because I needed to take over my father's business as fast as possible. Even though trusted friends are taking care of it, I didn't want to put any of my responsibilities on someone else.
My first years as alpha made me miss days when rogues believed that our pack was weak. So I spent most day training with and without my pack. It was until Thomas forced me focus on my school work that I noticed how my grades had gone down. I began to wake up earlier just to make time for school. I might have dropped out but knew it would only hurt me. I did learn to balance my work but recently rogues have made attacks and I need to find out why.
We finish eating and started heading for school. On the way I informed Thomas of the rogue attacks on other packs. Their attacks were random and scattered. I had been tracking their attacks on my week trip with the other alphas but we didn't get anywhere.
"Rue so when are you planning to end high school?" Thomas spoke after a while of silence from our previous conversation. "Mason probably already has the papers to sign you in for college courses. But we still need to know to inform the others."
I shrugged. "I don't know maybe by tomorrow. I am trying to do this as quickly as possible."
Ever since I turned eighteen not only has everything gotten busier, but my wolf has also been more weary. Even with all the problems I felt I would never admit it to anyone.
"Okay, so you can talk to the principal today during lunch." I nodded suddenly feeling strange. I felt weary for some reason but put it aside and began pulling in to the parking lot of the school.
