âMy comrade?â Olivia asked, tilting her head.
Benjamin blinked, utterly baffled by her odd choice of words. Comrade?
Before Olivia could dwell further on Benjaminâs unexpected appearance, another boyâhandsome, with a bright and sunny demeanorâhurried over to join therm âWow, a bunch of grown men ganging up on a girl. You guys really have no shame, huh?â Lucas snarked as he stepped beside Benjamin, the two of them forming an impenetrable wall around Olivia.

He and Benjamin had been passing nearby when they saw a girl with the St. Rona Academy crest sobbing and frantically making a phone call.
When the girl spotted Benjamin, she immediately ran over and begged for help, claiming that hex classmate Olivia was being surrounded by thugs.
Benjamin had initially been indifferentâuntil the girl mentioned the name Olivia. Without another word, he bolted toward the scene at a speed that left Lucas completely dumbfounded.
Lucas had assumed it must be some goddess to get Benjamin, who was famously apathetic, so worked up. But now, seeing Oliviaâs plain, bespectacled face, he couldnât help the stream of question marks popping up in his mind.
This?
âWhat are you two doing here?â Olivia asked, looking up at her unexpected saviors.
âYour friend said you were in trouble. Weâre here to play the heroes,â Lucas replied with a grin, though he was still puzzled about why Benjamin seemed so invested.
Totally unnecessary, Olivia thought.
âYou take care of yourself; weâll handle this,â Benjamin said firmly, still standing protectively in front of hei as he turned his focus to the thugs.
âDear classmate, you really are a good person,â Olivia remarked, her tone teasing.
Lucas nearly choked. Did I just hear someone call Benjamin a good person? For the first time ever?
âHey! Enough of this nonsense! None of you are leaving here today!â The lead thug barked, realizing Mia had managed to send help faster than heâd expected. Still, they had the numbers advantageâseven against three. Breaking Oliviaâs hands shouldnât be a problem.
At his signal, the seven thugs surged forward.
Benjamin and Lucas clenched their fists, ready for a fight.

Why is everyone so slow about these things?
As the lead thug reached them, Benjamin and Lucas began to raise their fists. But before they could throw a punch, they both felt a sudden weight on their shoulders.
Olivia had used their shoulders as a springboard to leap forward, delivering a flying kick that sent the leaderâa man weighing over 200 poundsâflying backward like a ragdoll.
Both boys froze, stunned.
âQuit dawdling. Just fight already,â Olivia said, her voice dripping with disdain. Without waiting for a response, her petite figure darted toward the group of thugs.
A sweeping kick.
An overâtheâshoulder throw.
A devastating low blow.

Lucas was dumbfounded.
Is this seriously the girl we were supposed to rescue?

What kind of classmates are these? he thought, shaking his head in disbelief.
