Xanthea looked at the fanatic fans who had been bold and brash, now scattering and fleeing faster than startled rabbits, a touch of amusement in her tone as she poked her head out of the car window, âOrion, itâs so like you to scare them off just with your presence!â
âWho are they?â
A deep, chilling voice came from behind her. Xanthea turned to see Orion, his face still holding a trace of frost. âJust a bunch of overzealous fans who somehow found out about the launch event of âRealm of Illusionsâ and came to cause trouble.â
âDidnât Oli·hea Media provide you with bodyguards?â
âBodyguards?â Xanthea laughed a bit as she looked at him. âMy uncle mentioned it, but I didnât think it was necessary. Iâm not some widely known superstar, making such a big deal just for stepping outside, plus, those fans werenât even mine.â
âRight.â Orion cut her off before she could finish. âNot everyone is as brave as Ms. Nightshade. Remember the audition here? Even when that blast occurred, Ms. Nightshade was not scared in the slightest.â
His lips curved in a slight smirk, his gaze icy, dripping with sarcasm. Xantheaâs face fell at his reminder.
What did he mean by bringing up that dayâs audition?
Did he think she deserved the motorcycle explosion and the fan chase?
Ha, she really was forgetful, having forgotten how cold yet outwardly charming he could be, all saintly on the surface!
If she had known this car was his, she would rather face the wrath of the fans than get in!
âSo, Iâm pleased, is that a problem?â Xantheaâs eyebrows arched, her tone frosty. âOr is it that by getting into Mr. Lockwoodâs car, Iâve inconvenienced you and spoiled your day?â
Pleased?
Pleased to have gotten herself into this current state?
Orionâs eyes traveled from her disheveled hair to her footprint-stained shoes, struggling to keep his emotions in check.
âMy apologies, Iâll just get out now.â
She said this and started to push the door open, only to find it locked from the inside by Orion.

âThey havenât gone far.â
They?
He meant those fanatic fans?
Xantheaâs lips curled in disdain. âWhat does that have to do with you? Donât play the good guy here! Cedric, stop the car!â
âAh.â Cedric, frightened by the argument inside the car, hardly dared to breathe. âMs. Nightshade, weâre about to hit the freeway. We canât stop here.â
Then why had he started the car when Orion locked the doors?
Xanthea now thought there was something off about both of them.
âStop the car!â her voice raised, âIâll cover the fine!â
âThat might work, but Ms. Nightshade, you just turned 18 and donât have a driverâs license yet, right?â
âXanthea was fuming. She accidentally touched the carâs mini fridge on the side, causing her so much pain that she involuntarily gasped, âAh!â
âWhat happened?â
Orion grabbed her wrist gently, rolling up her sleeve to reveal skin swollen and punctured by what looked like a thorn bush, his dark eyes narrowing sharply.
âDid they do this too?â
His tone was icy, as if ready to shatter something to pieces.
âMind your own business!â
Xanthea tried to pull her hand away, but the pain made her struggle feeble and unable to break free against the manâs firm grip.
