Rachel
I checked the date again just to make sure I wasn't dreaming.
May 8, 2014. It's real I thought as I started back at the calendar. I'm getting married today. A week after Matts's birthday.
"Rachel come on ain't nobody got time to waste time, " my mother yelled banging on the door.
After we got engaged we told our parents. Late knew the moment she walked in and the rest of our friends found out on their own.
I stared in the mirror again taking another look at my dress. "Okay Jesus let's do this" I said spinning around.
Rachel's Dress
"Alright, I'm coming out, " I said opening the door to face my family.
Gasps spread throughout the room as I stepped out.
"You guys like it right? Like it's not too much?"
"It's perfect, " Matts's mom said.
"Oh Rachel you look so beautiful, " Sarah said.
"Look at my daughter," Momma said trying not to cry.
"Can I come in?" my dad asked.
"I'm ready so hop on in, " I respond.
My dad walked in looked at me and walked back out. I ran after him knowing he's trying to keep it together.
"Dad come on don't start crying you're so close, " I said trying to lighten the mood. It didn't work. I walked up to him hugging him.
"My gosh you're 19 grow back down I didn't have enough time, " he said his voice cracking.
"You know I'll always be there...always, "
"I know, come on if we stay out here any longer we'll throw everything off-balance, " he said wiping his tears.
"Alright big guy, let's do this!" I said walking back into the room.
I didn't want a big wedding. We decided to have a backyard wedding on Matt's parent's property with only 25 people there.
We did everything earlier in the morning all I had to do know was actually get married.
"All right everyone is taking their seats we're going to go now. Kate is ready to walk down any minute now, " my mom said doing some last touches.
"Alright, we're out. Bye honey see you later babe, " my mom said hugging me and kissing dad.
My dad took his hand in mine walking me down the path. I could hear him mumbling under his breath and I knew he was praying. I sighed in gratefulness and drew closer to him.
The music started playing as I watched Kate and Matts's roommate walk down together. We waited for a couple more beats and walked through the barn door. Everyone stood up and my eyes zeroed in on Matt's.
My dad and I walked a bit halfway before he stopped and I looked at him confused. Matt straightened and made his way down the aisle towards me.
"Take care of her son, " my dad said hugging him.
"I will I promise," Matt replied.
My dad stepped back and put my hands in Matt's and walked to where my mom was. Matt squeezed my hand and finished walking me down the aisle.
"You look so beautiful, " he whispered.
"You look so handsome, " I replied.
" I think this is my favorite dress, " Matt said and I laughed quietly and the minister clears his throat.
"Today we are gathered to celebrate. The union of Rachel and Matthew...."
