Damn it⦠she tricked me. âAurora, how could you?â I muttered under my breath as I rushed toward the door, only to see her slip outside with that smug grin on her face. How did she even manage to open the door so quickly?
âYou little trickster,â I growled, leaning against the wall. I wanted to go after her, but then I looked down at myself and groaned.
This is all my fault. Why did I have to get carried away? Bending her over like that, catching a glimpse of her ass⦠Now here I am, stuck in this state. I sighed in frustration, running a hand through my hair.
âDane, arenât you coming?â Aurora called from outside, her voice light with amusement.
Sl: âs doing this on purpose. I know it. âYou both go on ahead,â I cailed back. âIâll catch up.â
âOh, really? Is there something youâre hiding?â she teased, her voice full of mischief.
I clenched my jaw, my smile fading. This girl is going to be the death of me. âNo,â I replied, trying to sound casual.
Moments later, her head popped back into the room. She leaned. against the doorframe, her eyes glinting with mischief as she glanced down, clearly noticing my predicament. âAre you sure?â she asked, smirking.
âYes, Aurora. Iâm sure,â I said aloud, but in my mind, I was pleading for her to stop tormenting me. I clasped my hands. together in a silent prayer, pointing at my obvious issue and begging her with my eyes.
Her smirk widened. Licking her lips dramatically, she tilted her head. âSorry, Mr. Montague. Your offer looks⦠tempting, but I just wanted to poke at your ego.â
I let out a defeated groan as she stepped away, leaving met utterly exasperated. âHow about I put my âegoâ inside you?â I shot back, gritting my teeth.
Auroraâs eyes widened in shock, and she turned away quickly. My stomach sank as I remembered Evander was standing right outside.
âShit,â I muttered, running my hand through my hair.
âNo, he didnât mean it like that,â I heard Aurora say to Evander, trying to smooth things over.
âOâ¦kay?â Evander replied, clearly unconvinced.
Their footsteps receded, and I was left alone in the room, simmering with frustration. Dropping into the chair behind Auroraâs desk, I rubbed my temples and shook my legs, waiting
for my body to calm down.
Aurora⦠I swear, Iâm going to get you back for this.
Five minutes later, I glanced down and sighed in relief. The situation had resolved itself, and I stood to leave. The door swung open, and my heart leapt, hoping it was Aurora.
But no. It was Trajan. My excitement deflated instantly.
âYou?â I asked, unable to hide my disappointment.
Trajan raised an eyebrow. âGood day, Alpha Dane,â he said as he strolled in, taking a seat in Auroraâs chair like he owned the place.
âHm,â I grumbled, running a hand through my hair as I reached for the door.
Expecting someone else?â Trajan asked, his tone sly. âLet me guessâthe love of your life?â
I groaned, opening the door and pausing to glance back at him. âIâd rather call her the one after my life.â
Tian frowned in confusion. âHuh?â
âNothing,â I muttered, stepping out into the hallway. I made my way to the pack doctorâs office, curious to see how things would go when Evander faced Piper.
As I neared the gates, I spotted Aurora and Evander ahead of
me. Quickening my pace, I caught up and leaned down to whisper in Auroraâs car. âHey.â
She jumped, startled, and nudged me playfully. âDane! Donât sneak up on me like that.â
âYou deserved it,â I teased. âThatâs payback for carlier.â
She rolled her eyes, muttering something under her breath.
âItâs good youâre here, Dane,â Evander said, his voice steady but tense. âI need all the support I can get.â
I nodded. âI thought you two wouldâve been there by now.â
Aurora shook her head. âWe stopped to check on the kids.â
âHow are they?â I asked, genuinely curious.
âThey just had lunch and were napping when I saw them,â she said, her voice softening.
âGood,â I replied as we continued toward the doctorâs office.
When we arrived, a young werewolf greeted us at the door.
âMiles?â Aurora asked, surprise evident in her tone. âYou work here now?â
Miles nodded, keeping his head down. âYes, Luna. Sir Warrick is in the fourth room.â
We stepped inside, Aurora leading the way. Before she could move further, Miles called out to her.
âLuna?â
Aurora turned to him, while I raised a questioning brow. âYes?â she answered.
âI⦠I just wanted to apologize for my past mistakes and bad behavior. I shouldnât have gotten involved with the wrong crowd. Iâve learned my lesson, and I promise Iâm a changed. person now.â
I narrowed my eyes, stepping closer to the young man. âWhat exactly did you do?â
Miles glanced at Aurora, silently pleading for her intervention.
She placed a calming hand on my arm. âItâs all in the past, Dane. Weâre starting fresh.â
I sighed, giving Miles a warning look. He gulped and nodded, clearly understanding the unspoken threat.
Aurora tugged on my arm. âLetâs go.â.
We walked down the hallway, the numbered signs on the doors guiding us to the fourth room.
When we entered, Warrick lay on the bed, his face battered and bruised. A bandage wrapped around his head, and smaller dressings dotted his swollen features. Piper sat beside him, her
head resting on the bed as she held his hand, her eyes closed.
Evander moved ahead of us, and Warrickâs eyes snapped open. Fear flashed across his face as he recoiled, trying to retreat from Evander.
âNo⦠slop!â Warrick stammered, his voice trembling. âI promise I wonât hurt Piper!â
âWarrick, no!â Evander said, raising his hands in a placating
gesture.
Piper stirred at the commotion. Her eyes widened as she saw Evander, and anger flared in her expression.
âWhat are you doing here?â she demanded, storming toward him. âHave you come to finish what you started?â
âYes,â Evander growled back, his voice thick with frustration.
Warrick flinched, shifting on the bed as if preparing to flee.
