Shaking and blurry, opening my eyes was difficult. Through a haze, I managed to see the annoying girl and the guy talking to the figure from the roof. They were still masked.
âHey, donât try to move, youâre okay.â It was cool girl, she had her hand in mine and her sword was on the ground next to me. My sword. Not anymore haha. Psh. My throat was sore and my legs were almost unable to move. Raising my head to glance down at my legs, the sight of blood and deep cuts almost made me pass out again.
âYouâre so reckless!â Annoying girlâs voice booming.
âI saved you, did I not?â A manâs voice. Not very old, though. Sounded maybe twenty.
âThe Alliance is gonna be all ovaâ us now!â He wasn't wrong, if we wanted to survive this we needed to leave quickly. Hearing those words, my vision snapped into clarity and cool girlâs face almost became a kicking pad whilst trying to bandage my leg.
âWe need to go.â Urgency backed my voice.
âOh, youâre awake. You okay?â Annoying girl asked loudly.
âYep, fine. Letâs go.â Trying to stand up, cool girl tries to stop me.
âIâve only just finished bandaging it, give it time.â Calm and slow, her voice was soothing, however not enough to distract me from the fear of The Alliance showing up.
âI donât know you guys but you need to go.â The figure spoke.
This tale has been pilfered from Royal Road. If found on Amazon, kindly file a report.
âYou got anywhere to go?â I asked him.
âIâm a roamer, so if you guys want help Iâm happy to tag along.â
âAre you gonna bring those guns?â I sarcastically asked
âOf course.â
âLetâs go then.â
âWe âav no ammo and oneâv us âs injured.â
âIâll be fine, moving slowly is better than not moving at all.â With that, cool girl lifted me up and we began walking.
âWe have someone new now, I think we should know each otherâs names. Mine's Ashley.â I remarked.
âAleena.â Cool girl said.
âMy name is Crystal!â Annoying girl yelled excitedly.
âMa nameâs Jack.â The big guy calmly answered.
âIâd prefer to keep my real name a secret, but you guys can call me Ark.â Secretive, we werenât sure if we could trust him. At the end of the day, he saved us. As much as Iâd like to think we would've been fine without him, I know we wouldâve run out of ammo and Aleena wouldâve grown tired and we wouldâve become the blood that covers the street. He may have levelled a building but we live because of it.
By this point, the sun had gone down and light was fading. Streetlights donât work so we used the torches we brought to light our way. Silence filled the city, occasionally broken by the incomprehensible screeching of hordes echoing out.
âSurprised you didnât throw up after seeing all that gore, Aleena.â I said sarcastically.
âI had too much to drink the night before we met you so it got to me. Speaking of, you got a cigarette?â My lord, I was âboutta be this girlâs dispenser.
âJeez, we gotta find you some of your own.â Throwing my backpack to my front, I reached in and picked out the packet and the lighter.
âYou can have one, but I'm lighting it, yeah?â She saw the way I clutched the lighter.
âYeah, if youâd prefer.â Aleena smiled. Lighting both of our cigarettes, the smoke rose into the air and dissolved above us.
âWhere are we actually going?â Ark questioned.
âYou and Ashley are taking us three back to our base and what you do from there is up to you.â Crystal swiftly spat.
Before any of us had time to respond, Jack interrupted.
âYo, look! A green flare!â
âThank fuck!â With a green flare in sight, we might survive until morning.
