Their Respective Jobs
The study on the first floor of the mansion, which was not used by anyone, was open to the public, and Hugo was teaching the children.
As I peeked in and nodded my head, Evelyn asked from behind me, âAre you sure you donât want to come in?â I answered that I didnât want to disturb them, and closed the door.
âIt seems that the kids are starting by writing letters.â
âI see. I just hope Mimily doesnât disturb the Angelsâ¦â
âMimily is a very proper girl, so she wonât do something like that.â
The two of us were chatting and laughing as we moved straight into the kitchen. Today was Evelynâs first day of work.
It had been a week since the five of them had started living in the village.
At first, they were bewildered by the facilities of the house and the sudden change in the fields, but after a week they seemed to have gotten used to them and were happy to use them as they were convenient.
If it were me, I would still be perplexed after a week, but I am sure the five of them must have different brains.
And now that they have started to get used to it, they have been assigned to their respective jobs, starting today.
ââThe kitchen is almost the same as in the village houses. Itâs just a little bigger. The appliances are the same, so donât worry.â
âUnderstood. The foodstuffs are all new to me, so I know Iâm not very good at cooking with them yet, but Iâll do my best.â
Evelyn politely bowed down her head, but Iâm also not the best cook, besidesâ¦
âEvelyn, please raise your head.â
She slowly raised her head and looked at me.
I looked at her, smiled, and told her.
âFrom the moment you all decided to live in this village, I have thought of you as my family. So donât think of me as your superior or anything like that, Evelyn, as my sister, letâs cook, sew, and live happily together!â
âLady Kanadeâ¦â
Evelyn seemed overwhelmed, and although in my mind, I was actually older than her, I was earnestly apologizing.
âI cannot believe you thought of us that wayâ¦â
âAhh, Evelyn, please donât cry.â
âMimily was kidnapped by nobles and there was no one around who could help her⦠I understand that they didnât want to get involved in a mess like that. However, since even the countryâs patrol wouldnât help us, we found ourselves in despair⦠It was only Lord Leo who opposed the noble⦠even if we returned to that country, we wouldnât be able to trust citizens of that country ever again.â
They have experienced something terrible and have developed a distrust of peopleâ¦
âEverythingâs all right now. Over here, no one will be able to hurt you.â
âYesâ¦â
In the morning, I showed Evelyn around the mansion, and in the afternoon, I let her work freely.
The garden was where Evelynâs husband, Logan, worked as a gardener.
The garden at the mansion was blooming and looking reasonable, but it was not a nice garden, perhaps because of my sketchy gardening skills.
âOhh, all the flowers had been replanted in flower pots!â
âOh my, Lady Kanade. Hello, itâs a beautiful day, isnât it?â
âAh, hello. Logan.â
âYou must be surprised.â
Logan smiled and showed me the garden, where the flowers were gone.
âYes. You seem to be moving all the flowers away?â
âItâs as you say. Once I change the position of the flowers, the garden will look completely different.
He must love plants very much. Logan was staring at the flowers with a dazzled look.
âEvelyn will bring you a drink, so make sure to take a break.â
âOh my, that will help! Thank you very much, Lady Kanade.â
âNot at all, Iâm looking forward to seeing a wonderful garden.â
I waved goodbye to Logan and decided to go check on Leo next.
Leo was taken away by Richmond, but I wonder where they went?
