Chapter 3: Episode 3 The 411

Pieces of My Universe 🧩💗Words: 9793

During my 45-minute walk by myself, I had plenty of time to daydream. While listening to Green Day's Dookie on my Sony discman. Playing the what if game with my future self. It passed the time and before I knew it, I was walking up Tom's driveway.

"Wussup Hannah, glad you made it, come in!" Seeing Hannah walking up the driveway, I open the door and yell out to her.

"What's up, sorry it took me a while to get here. I called Janet before I left to see if she could come hang out. Unfortunately for her she had to watch her brother tonight." Entering the house through the side door into the kitchen.

"That blows, I guess it's just you and us guys again! Come on up, I will make you a mixed drink. We just got blazed while waiting for you, you'll have to catch up" Teasing Hannah as she follows me up the stairs.

"Would It kill any of you guys to get a girlfriend? I could use some more female energy around here! Responding sarcastically. Seeing all the smoke filling the room as I climb to the top of the stairs. Makes me feel as though I am ascending into the clouds of heaven.

"Hannah, wussup! We waited for you to smoke this bowl. It's all packed and ready to go. Ladies first!" Hannah sits down on a white lawn chair, at the round table with me and Jay

Jay pours her a drink of Captain Morgan's and Coke and hands her the red Solo cup. Hannah takes a massive swig from her drink and sets it back down on the table. With her hands free I Toss her my black Bic lighter, before passing her my glass bowl across the table.

"Holy shit that's strong! Thanks for waiting for me, your new bowl is dope Tom! I love the bluish, purplish colors all through it." Taking the bowl from his hand, admiring the gorgeous handblown masterpiece. Before placing it to my lips and lighting up. Exhaling the smoke into a bunch of rings.

"Surprised to see you riding solo! Why didn't Janet come with you?" Nabbing the bowl and my lighter back from her hands. Hannah lifts her cup and continues to drink it down. Although just a minute ago she complained that it was strong.

"Ironically, she is babysitting her brother, who is twelve and old enough to stay at home by himself. Janet told me her mom is worried he is going to get into trouble on his own. We both laughed on the phone, knowing that Janet is the troublemaker in her house." Answering Tom while secretly scanning the room to see if he was here. Bummer, the only other people up here are River and Todd! They are playing Tekken in the corner of the room. He's nowhere to be seen. I guess he couldn't make it either.

"Must feel weird to be hanging out here without Jared, huh. Is that why you haven't been over here lately? It has felt strange around here without you hanging around lately. I kind of got used to you basically living here over the summer. Then After Jared left you stopped coming over. What's up with that?" Blurting out how I felt. Over the summer I thought Hannah and I had become good friends. Now I have been starting to wonder if she was hanging here because of Jared.

"I'm sorry, I know how you feel it's been weird for me too. And yeah of course I have missed Jared. But while he was here, I kind of ignored a lot of my other friends. To spend as much time with him while he was here. So now I'm catching up with all my other friends. There is only one of me, I can only be in one place at a time. I promise I will still be around to bug you guys!" I'm starting to think Tom is accusing me of only making friends with him, so that I could hang out here with Jared over the summer.

I enjoy hanging out with the guys, unfortunately I'm usually the only girl in the group. Luckily towards the end of the summer Janet started hanging around here too. She gets along great with the boys because they have a lot in common. Like music, video games, skateboarding, getting high and partying. While most of my other friends enjoy partying, they are more girly girl types. Janet has always been more of a tomboy and most of her friends were guys already.

"Knock it off Tom! Are you trying to alienate Hannah? All it's going to do is make her not want to come and hangout here." Sometimes Tom says the dumbest shit. One of the main reasons I never asked Hannah to hang out with us years ago.

I have a hunch he has a crush on her. There are times though when he weirds her out. With what he says to her and by the way he acts around her. Hannah is chill; she acts like it doesn't bother her. It would drive Jared crazy though. I chuckle in my mind just thinking how it would irritate him.

"Nah, where cool! What happened to everyone? Earlier you told me that you invited half of the neighborhood over tonight. To meet that new guy, what's his name again?" Acting as if I didn't care. Although all day I have been replaying the way he smiled at me in my mind.

"His name is Calvin, Hannah. He should be here shortly; he had to babysit his cousins till his aunt got home from work." Who does Hannah think she is fooling, it's sure the hell not me. I saw the way those two looked at one another. They dug each other at first sight.

"What a sweet guy, not many guys are willing to help out their family like that. I didn't know he had relatives that already lived here. Now it makes sense why his parents would move here." Jay raises his left eyebrow at me while killing the last hit off the bowl.

Not knowing how to respond to that. I left them sitting at the table, walking across the room to enjoy my buzz by myself. I just want to mellow out on the love seat and listen to Tool that's playing on the speakers, with my eyes shut.

Of course, Jay didn't get the hint! He comes over here and plops himself down on the cushion next to me.

I know Hannah is annoyed with me for following her over here. She let me know with her body language. Crossing her arms keeping her gaze on the shroom poster on the wall ignoring my presence. Sighing, she rolls her eyes to the side, giving me a quick glance. She'll get over it! What kind of friend would I be if I didn't explain Filmore's situation to her?

"Hannah, I need to tell you something that you can't let anyone else know. I'm going to give you the 411 on Calvin Filmore. I'm only telling you this because I can tell you dig him and I'm trying to protect you. Calvin is not babysitting out of the kindness of his heart. He has no choice in the matter. He was sent here to live with his aunt and uncle.

They live only five streets up the hill from here. His parents shipped him off when he got expelled from school. He told me he is only staying here for the school year and then he is heading back home. They plan on him starting his senior year at home after it all blows over." Hannah switches her position on the couch, turning her body so her knees are pointing at me. Leaning her elbow on the back of the loveseat with her hand behind her head. I know she is intrigued with Filmore's story; I can see it in her eyes. I have just made Filmore even more fascinating to her.

He is unattachable and has too many layers for her to peel back and discover. There is a reason Hannah doesn't date any guys around here. She has told me they are incredibly boring, but if you ask me, there is more to it. She confuses these dudes because she is a sweet person and is flirty by nature. But when they try and ask her out, she has no interest in any of them.

"I think you have been watching too much Fresh prince of Bel-air. You're f@cking with me aren't you!" Personally, I have never heard of this type of thing happening in real life. If Jay's story is true, Calvin's circumstances are like a plot to a TV sitcom or even a drama.

Jay didn't even blink or smirk, as he usually does when he is pulling my leg. Jay takes out a cigarette butt from his pack. With a serious look on his face, he lights the butt and takes a few quick puffs.

"I thought it sounded crazy also, but it's for real. Don't mention any of this to him, or anyone else. Filmore told me that he didn't plan on making it public information. It seems to be a really touchy subject for him, Aiight! I had to tell you before he got here, because I can tell you two hit it off right away. And he called me right before you came through the door and said he was heading down. I'm letting you know all this to protect you, what you decide to do now is all on you!" I know Hannah can keep a secret, and I am only telling her Filmore's because he has a thing for her. I need her to be aware of all the facts.

"Okie Doki, I get it, message received! Thanks for looking out for me bro." Jay knows me well, my curiosity meter just jumped up. Remember Hannah the saying curiosity killed the cat! You need to keep your guard up with this boy. Don't get sucked in by those blue eyes of his, or his charming smile.

"I got your back Sis!" Getting up from the couch, after hearing the doorbell ring. I jog down the stairs to answer the door.

Once Jay was down the stairs, I snuck over to the bedroom window that overlooks the driveway. Acting as if I am interested in watching River and Todd battle one another. I sit down on the end of Tom's bed, right beside the window. And look down below at the side entrance. It's Him, he's here!
