On Friday evening, In order to find out where her daughter was going to, during the weekend., Mrs. Okoro decided to call her daughter's best friend and roommate, Kevwe. Since Chelsea has never taken a day off, since she started working part time for her mother , except when she was in school or was sick , for the past month since she started to help her out again.
" Hello dear" Said Mrs. Okoro as Kevwe picked her call.
" Hi, Good morning Ma" Kevwe greeted her.
" How are you?" Chelsea's mum asked her.
" I'm fine mummy" Kevwe replied fondly since she has grown to love and take Chelsea's mum, like her own, " And you?" she asked.
" I'm fine dear, and how was business today" Mrs. Okoro asked.
" Business was fine, we thank you" She answered, " What about the supermarket?" Kevwe asked.
" It is going well, we bless God. So is Chelsea back from her shop?" Mrs. Okoro asked.
" Not yet Ma" Kevwe answered.
" Okay, that's fine. I just wanted to ask if you knew or had an ideal of where she is going this Saturday and if she is going with someone?" Chelsea's mum asked.
" I don't know about that's Kevwe answered.
" Okay, that is fine. Are you girls going out this weekend?" Mrs. Okoro asked, trying to get the information, Chelsea refused to give her anyway possible, and decided to get the information from Kevwe without asking her directly or why she was asking.
" We!?, No we are going no where, especially me. I want to rest this weekend. But I don't know if Chelsea has any plans this weekend, other than going to help you at the supermarket . I was even planning on asking her, that if she is not going to the supermarket this weekend, we should just watch a movie with me" Kevwe told her, " But why you asking?" she asked.
" I just wanted to know, that's all" Mrs. Okoro replied, "So you mean you guys are not going anywhere this weekend?" She asked again.
" Yes, Not anywhere I'm aware of" Kevwe answered, " I'm not going anywhere. But I thought Chelsea normally goes to the visit you and help out in the supermarket every weekend recently?, Or did she tell you that she was going somewhere else this weekend?" Kevwe asked Chelsea's mum.
" Yes, she said she needed the weekend off, so I just wanted to ask; if you had an ideal of where she was going and if she is going with, anyone, since she is not going with you" Said Chelsea's mum.
" Didn't she tell you where she was going to?" Kevwe asked her.
" No she didn't" Chelsea's mother answered.
" I don't know Ma, but when she gets back, I will asked her" Kevwe told her, " But you know my loyalty remains with her, if she say I shouldn't tell anyone, I wouldn't be able to tell, because I'm not a snitch and I don't snitch on friends, especially not on my best friend no offense" Kevwe apologize to her in advance.
" None taken, that shows you are good friend and I'mhappy she can confide in you, but if you notice anything wrong or unusual you have to inform, for her safety" Mrs. Okoro said to Kevwe.
" Yes, that's true. I will do just that" Kevwe agreed.
" Okay dear, thanks and have a nice day" Chelsea's mum said as she cuts the call.
As the front door opens Chelsea walks into the house.
" Hi, you are back, welcome" Kevwe greeted and welcome her with a hug.
" Yes I'm, thanks. How was work today?" Chelsea asked as she hugs Kevwe back.
" It was fine and yours?" Kevwe replied and asked, as they stopped hugging.
" It was fine " Chelsea replied as she pulls off her shoes, " I'm coming, I want to go and take a shower ; and also change my clothes" She told Kevwe , as she goes into her room to grab her towel and went into the bathroom.
After some time after taking a shower, Chelsea came out of the bathroom and went into her room for a change of clothes and she came back to the sitting room.
" I'm now feeling refreshed, after the shower I took, because the sun that shine today; was very hot and you know me with my big body, I was sweating like a leave." Chelsea told Kevwe, " You unlike you slim people" She added.
" As if "we slim people" as you put it don't sweat too as any normal human being and stop degrading you size, yes you are and look big, but are beautifully my big baby" Kevwe said adoringly.
" Thanks" Chelsea said to Kevwe, " You Know how to say the right thing to brighten my day, that's one of the reasons I love you, bestie." Chelsea said.
" You are welcome and love you too, that's why we are and going to be best friends forever, right BFF?" Kevwe asked.
" Yes, my BFF" Chelsea replied, " Business was very hectic today, but rewarding and thank God I and Lucy was able to pull through or pull it off" Chelsea told Kevwe as She sat close to her on the chair.
" You are right, today business was very hectic me too. A customer was complaining that the style I made for her, wasn't the one she choosed. I had to go through our chat and chat history on WhatsApp to get the picture of style she picked and comment on it, to showed it was the same style I made. She almost didn't complete her payment for the sewing of the clothe material I used for the sewing, until she saw the picture and agreed it was the same style she choosed, and apologized that she just forgot. Can you believe that, She forget!. If I didn' t have evidence and thank God, I'm not using Whatsapp disappearing message, if not what would I do. This is my livelihood we are taking about, if all customer were like her and starts forgeting important things like that, where would my business be, how would I feed, how would I make my rent and how would I survive" Kevwe lamented and complained bitterly.
" Don't worry I will house and feed you" Chelsea said jokily, with a smile.
" Stop that it is not funny, I'm serious" Kevwe said on see the smile on Chelsea's face.
" I know, but thank God; you were able to resolve it and she paid, right?" Chelsea asked.
" That's true and she paid" Kevwe answered.
" But to be honest, that's just how some customers behave, but what can we do?, But after all we were taught; that customers are always right and they should be treated as Kings" Chelsea told her friend.
" Yes oo, that's the truth, we just have to be patient" Kevwe said.
" So do you have any plans this weekend?" Kevwe asked Chelsea.
" Yes I do" She answered, " I'm sorry I didn't inform you. Do you have plans for two of us this weekend?" Chelsea asked.
" Not really. I just thought we could beng watch any Korean series or dramas of our choices" Kevwe replied.
" I'm really sorry. I'm going out on Saturday. But we can do that after Sunday service " Chelsea promised her.
" Where are you going to?, Are you going alone? And Why am I just finding out you have plans this weekend?" Kevwe asked.
" Well I'm going to ShopRite tomorrow" Chelsea answered.
" We can go together. It has been a while I went out apart from work, Church, my Parents place or your parents place. And it has also been long we went out together" Kevwe told her.
" Well, I'm going with someone. You remember the person that called yesterday?" Chelsea asked.
" That guy that asked you out?" Kevwe asked.
" Yes that one, that one" Chelsea replied, "We decided to start off as friends" Chelsea replied.
" Wow, my baby has grown-up " Kevwe said fondly, touching Chelsea cheek, " You are now going out with a guy" Kevwe added excitedly.
" Just to be clear we are not dating or in any kind of sexual relationship. Just a platonic relationship between friends" Chelsea told Kevwe.
" Anything you say" Kevwe told her.
" You don't believe me?" Chelsea asked her friend.
" Of course I believe, but it is him I don't believe" Kevwe told her.
" Well that is what I want to find out." Chelsea said.
" It can't believe that he just wants to be a platonic friend with a beautiful young lady like you or are you the one friend zoning him?" Kevwe asked.
" Stop flattering me and Of course not, I would never treat him like that, even though we are just meeting each other. We both agreed to being friends " Chelsea answered.
" You mean you agreed, not that you two agreed" Kevwe told sarcastically.
" Stop that, you are making it sound like I'm a dictator and made him or forced him to agree to it" Chelsea said to her.
" Of course I would never say that" Kevwe told her, " I'm sorry if I implied that you would do such a thing" She apologized.
" Apology accepted" Chelsea told her, " I think I will ask him if I can bring my friend along, so that you can observe him and give me some feedback of your observations" Chelsea told Kevwe.
" For what!, a detective or what?" Kevwe asked shocked by the ideal.
" No, to act as a chaperone. Do you think I will just go out in public, alone with him. He is a single guy for goodness sake, what do you want people to think or say?" Chelsea asked her best friend.
" Forget about what people would think or say dear. This is a new generation and for what is worth you are not in a sexual relationship with him .You two are getting to know each other, as friends and in a Public place for that matter, just call it a form of courtship. And he wouldn't be able to pull off anything, even if he has any evil intention or ulterior motive. That's why when you get there you order your own food and drink, and be sure you monitor the servers as they are ditching out your food. But don't worry, even if I have not met him personally, I'm think he wouldn't do something so drastic like; spiking your food , or anything else bad, even what we are thinking might not really happen" Kevwe advised," I just have a feeling that he is a nice guy" She finally added.
"You don't even know him yet and you are defending him?" Chelsea asked ," Although I'm not saying he is like that and you might be right too."
" You know I'm always right and I don't need to know him or meet him in order to know that, sometimes it is written on someone's face" Kevwe said proudly.
" As if, please don't push it" Chelsea said, "So you don't want to go with me?" Chelsea asked, " I know that's why you are telling me all this, although you might be right" She added.
" No, I don't. Please live me tomorrow to enjoy my Korean dramas, I don't want to be a third-wheel on your date" Kevwe told.
" Not date, it is a day out with a friend" Chelsea said.
" Anything that helps you sleep at night" Kevwe said jokily, " But remember to get me something, on your way coming" She added.
" Okay, Yes Ma, I have heard you" Chelsea replied playfully.
" And your mum called" Kevwe told Chelsea.
" Wait let me guess, she wanted to know where and who I was going out with?" Chelsea asked.
" You didn't hear anything from me. My lips are sealed" Kevwe replied not wanting to agree or not, if Chelsea's mum called her to ask about that.
" You don't have to tell me. I know my own mother. And the mother I have is very noisy. That's why I refuse to tell her, so that she can be in suspense and continue guessing who or where I'm going, although I will tell her later. But I just like teasing her sometimes, it is just our little game" Chelsea told Kevwe and laughs.
" You are the one that Knows that , don't allow your teasing land you in trouble" Kevwe replied, " And Don't let mummy hear you call her noisy" She warned Chelsea.
" Of course she wouldn't hear it, you are my best friend and your loyalty lies with me. And I was just joking, so lighten up. You wouldn't tattle on me right?" Chelsea asked.
" Of course not. I would never tattle on your, you are my best friend for goodness sake" Kevwe replied.
" I know you wouldn't. Let me go and prepare dinner" Chelsea said as she walks towards the kitchen.
" Be fast about it , I'm hungry" Kevwe told her playfully.
" Yes Madam, your food would be ready soon" Chelsea played along, as she walks into the kitchen to prepare their dinner.
