Chapter 24
Complicated Fairytale
When we entered our suite the view took my breath away. The Eiffel Tower stood just outside our windows. I couldn't wipe the smile off of my face even if I tried. Kade chuckles smiling back at me.
"What do you think babe?"
"I think I have the most amazing boyfriend in the whole world! This is gorgeous Kade! I could stand here taking in this view forever." There were two glass doors that lead out onto a balcony. The Eiffel Tower looked so close by that I felt like I could reach out and touch it. The room was decorated in ivories and cream. White roses were placed on all the tables. It was very classic-looking with hints of modern accents. Breakfast had been placed on a small round table with all sorts of dessert pastries. Kade sat down and wasted no time as he filled his plate.
"I'm glad you like it, come eat the Eiffel Tower isn't going anywhere." He smirked at me. I continued to stare out the window as I sat down in front of him.
"I still can't believe we are here! I feel like I'm dreaming."
"It's no dream we are really here and we have a lot to do over the next few days so eat."
"Like what?"Â I questioned as I placed food on my plate.
"Like tour the city and spend some time in that bed."Â He winked and I laughed.
Kade was right over the next two days we had been all over Paris to different museums and buildings. We spent half of a day at the Eiffel Tower and quite a few hours in bed. I was on cloud nine the whole time, this whole trip was truly amazing and it wasn't over yet. On the third day, I woke up and he wasn't beside me. I got up and searched our room. "Kade?" I called out. When silence answered me I began to worry. Where the hell was he? I took my phone off of the nightstand and pressed his name. It rang twice and then went to voicemail. What the hell? I paced the floor as panic started to creep in. Why would he leave? We could have anything he could have possibly wanted to be sent to us. Maybe he had business to take care of? But he promised no work on this trip. I put on a robe and went out on the balcony. The sun was high in the sky and the city below was busy with cars rushing back and forth. I sighed and tried to settle my nerves. I mean this is Kade, It's not likely he was kidnapped or anything. He is more than capable of taking care of himself. But it wasn't like him to just take off on me either. I heard the door to the suite open and I jumped up abruptly.
"Kade?"
"Yes, babe?"Â He smiled brightly at me as he walked through the door.
"Where have you been?! I called you!"
"Oh damn, my phone must be off. I'm sorry I just went out for a walk. I didn't want to wake you up." He crossed the room and pulled me into his arms.
"A walk?" He smirked and simply nodded. If I didn't know any better I would say he was lying. But why would he lie? What would he be doing that he wouldn't tell me about?
"Don't look so stressed everything is fine I promise." He hugged me lightly before he let go. I looked up at him and noticed a glimpse of something in his eyes. I wasn't sure what it was but I was sure he was up to something. "Go take a shower and get dressed Addi. We have a few more places to see today before we go home tomorrow." I nodded still staring at him. "What is it?" He questioned.
"I don't know you tell me? What's going on?"
He laughed lightly and shrugged. "I don't know what you're talking about. Go get ready we need to leave in an hour." He took off his shoes and sat down. "I'm going to call for room service what would you like Addison?"
"I'd like to know what you're up to? Is that on the menu?"
He shook his head. "I'm not up to anything, go shower I'll order for you." He smirked.
"Fine but I know your lying!" I heard him laughing as I walked away. I showered quickly as my mind ran through a hundred different scenarios of what was going on. Was he cheating? Did something happen at home that he didn't want me to know about? I groaned in frustration. What the hell is he hiding? I tied my hair up into a messy bun and put on some light makeup. When I came out of the bathroom there was a white strapless sweetheart dress laying on the bed with a note beside it. I picked up the note and eyed it curiously. "Put this on and meet me downstairs." It was Kade's handwriting. He is definitely up to something but now I feel bad for thinking it was something bad. He was out buying me this dress to surprise me. I slipped the dress over my head and looked in the mirror. The dress was gorgeous the bodice was covered in lace that went to my hips and then it went into a fuller skirt that came down just above my knees.  I took my hair down and let it fall in waves over my shoulders. I looked good. I smiled brightly at myself in the mirror. I grabbed my phone and headed down to the lobby. When I got to the lobby I looked around for Kade. I stood in the middle of the room my eyes scanning the crowd. I didn't see him anywhere. A short gray-haired man approached me.
"Addison Hayes?"Â His French accent spoke quickly as if he was in a hurry.
"Yes?" I questioned staring at him.
"Follow me."Â He said promptly and began to weave through the maze of people toward the door.
"Wait!" I called as I rushed after him. Once we'd made it out of the hotel he stopped. "Who are you and where is Kade?"
"Mr. Jacobs?"Â He raised an eyebrow.
"Yes, that's Kade."
The little man smiled at me. "I'm not at liberty to say, madam. Please come with me."
"What do you mean you can't say?" I yelled at him and he let out a throaty laugh.
"Mr. Jacobs said you'd be a hand full. Just relax madam. Trust me." He nodded.
"Ok, I guess." I shrugged.  I still wasn't comfortable going anywhere with this man but if Kade sent him I guess I could trust him. He turned and I followed behind him. He stopped near a small black car and opened the door for me. I climbed in and soon the car began to maneuver through traffic. I'm not sure how long we drove but it seemed like hours. The car crawled to a stop and my door opened. When I stepped out of the car I gasped at the sight. The Pont des Arts bridge stood in front of me. The padlocks filled the bridge as people made their way up and the down bridge. It was definitely a sight to see so many padlocks in one place, they were all a symbol of someone's love. I beamed at the gray-haired man and he handed me a small gold key. The key had a small heart in the center of it.
"What's this for?"Â I raised an eyebrow at him.
"I don't know madam I was just told to give it to you. You'll find what you need in the middle of the bridge. Good luck madam." He winked at me and then he was gone. I made my way over to the sidewalk to begin my journey across the massive bridge. As I walked among the padlocks I looked at them. They were all different sizes and colors. Some had names in English on them, others were in French, some didn't have anything at all on them. I walked slowly taking in every second. I'd dreamed of coming here for years and I intended to enjoy it. I held the small key in my hand and wondered if it went to a padlock. As I approached the middle of the bridge I looked out over the water. Paris was such a beautiful city. I looked around thinking Kade must be here. I didn't see him. The man said I'd find what I needed here. What was I supposed to find? I eyed the padlocks in front of me curiously. Suddenly something caught my eye. A big golden heart-shaped padlock was in the center of the bridge. I walked to it quickly. As I reached out to touch it I saw Addison written on the front of it. I turned it over and I love you was written on the back. Out of curiosity I placed the key in the lock and turned it. The padlock came undone and a small piece of white paper fell out of the center of the large lock. I picked up the piece of paper where I see something written in French.
Veux-tu m'épouser
What does that mean? Damn, I should have learned French or at least paid attention over the last few days. I stared at the paper. "Addi..." I immediately knew the husky voice. I turned around to see Kade standing there smiling at me.
"Kade!!" I squealed and threw myself in his arms. "This is so romantic thank you for doing this for me. I'm sorry I questioned you this morning I had no idea what you had planned."
He wrapped his arms around my waist. "I know you didn't babe. That was the point it was a surprise."
I laughed. "I love the dress by the way."
"It looks amazing on you. I knew it would."
I held the tiny piece of paper up and I looked at him. "What does this mean?"
He let go of me and stepped back. "Addison we need to talk." He spoke softly with a serious look. Panic started to steep in. My hands began to shake. Kade took a deep breath and reached out taking my hand in his.
"Addi from the moment I met you I knew you were different. You didn't care who I was. Hell, you were even rude to me which doesn't happen very often." I winced at his words. I was rude but he was being an ass. My mind began to spin. What is he trying to tell me? Oh shit, what if he is breaking up with me? Why would he do all this to break up with you? Now I was screaming at myself. Just shut up and pay attention!
"Addi? Are you listening?"
"Yes sorry go on Kade."Â I sighed.
"You are so special to me. You know all of my flaws and you love me anyway. I know it hasn't been easy for you." I can feel his hand shaking in mine. Holy shit he is nervous why would he be nervous? "Addison I love you with all of my heart. You came into my life and made me believe in love again. Veux-tu m'épouser?"
"Kade you know I don't know what that means. But I love you too."
"This is what it means." I stared at him confused as he let go of my hand and bent down on one knee in front of me. "Veux-tu m'épouser?" He spoke again as he reached in his pocket pulling out a large Tiffany box. "Will you marry me?" He smiled up at me as he opened the box. I blinked several times. Marry him? Did he really just propose?
A smile spread across my face and I covered his body with mine kissing him everywhere my lips could reach. He held on to me and laughed.
"Well? Will you babe?"
"Of course!!! Sorry, I got so excited I forgot to answer. Yes yes, I will marry you!!" I squealed as he slid the ring on my finger. I looked down at my hand and took in the beautiful sight of my ring. It was a stunning five-karat round-cut Tiffany ring. The band had little diamonds lined on each side of it. Tears filled my eyes as I looked at it. "It's perfect, Kade." I smiled at him.
"Just like you."Â He smirks and kisses my forehead.
