Chapter 97 What a Great Lengths to Make Me Miscarry
They were nothing but a couple of scoundrelsâone cheated, and the other happily played the role of a mistress. What kind of moral standards or qualities could they possibly have?
David shook off Elizabethâs grasp, pulling his pants leg back. âWhat good is begging me? Youâre the one who bound Caroline.â
The moment Elizabeth heard that, she immediately understood. She turned to Caroline. âCaroline, Iâm sorry. Please forgive me. How about⦠how about you tie me up instead? Iâll accept it. Iâm willing. Or you can hit me, take out your frustration on me!â
As she spoke, she grabbed Carolineâs hand and tried to slap herself with it.
Caroline forcefully pulled her hand away. âDonât touch me. Hit you? Iâd rather not dirty my hands!â
At that moment, Caroline could see that David had indeed softened. He was signaling Elizabeth to beg Caroline.
I knew it. I had already guessed this outcome, hadnât I?
Davidâs heart had long been swayedâcompletely leaning toward Elizabeth. Caroline had always understood this fact.
If she hadnât demanded a promise from David to severely punish anyone who kidnapped her, this whole thing might have been swept under the rug with Elizabeth crying a few tears.
Her heart felt cold.
Caroline instinctively rubbed her arms, but it wasnât the cold of her body. Her heart was cold, and no amount of warmth could bring it back to life.
In the living room, the three of them stood in a tense stalemate.
Elizabeth was still crying.
âGo home,â David said after a long silence, his face cold. âYouâll stay in your room and think about what youâve done.â
âMr. Ellisonâ¦â
David didnât even glance at her, striding upstairs with a finality that left no room for negotiation.
Troublesome.
The moment he left, Elizabeth quickly wiped away her tears and sprang tò her feet, agile and determined.
âCaroline, youâre lucky this time. Not only did you escape, but you even found evidence to force my hand!â Elizabeth pointed at her. âJust wait, I wonât let you off the hook!â
Caroline sneered when she saw the true face of Elizabethâs viciousness.
Elizabeth gritted her teeth. âWhat are you laughing at? A woman carrying a bastard child like you canât even protect yourself, letâs see how youâre going to protect that bastard!â

âYou really know Iâm pregnant, huh? It was after the hospital incident that you figured it out, wasnât it?â
âYes!â
Caroline stared at her. âEver since then, collagen peptides, breakfast tea, the kidnapping⦠Youâve been going to great lengths to make me miscarry. Why? Whatâs your problem with my child? Does it get in your way?â
Elizabethâs eyes darted around, unable to answer immediately.
Because she could never tell Caroline the truth. Because youâre carrying Mr. Ellisonâs child!
Seeing her silence, Caroline guessed, âI think youâre afraid the truth will come out about how you sold my virginity that night. Or maybe you know who that rich man was, and he didnât want the child, so you were sent to make me get rid of it?â
Elizabeth neither admitted nor denied it. Instead, she said, âI donât get you, Caroline. Why are you protecting a bastard child so fiercely? If I were you, Iâd just get rid of it, and then Iâd be free. Youâre carrying a burden every day. Arenât you tired of it?â
âMy child, Iâll keep it if I want to. I donât need you telling me what to do!â
These people had no idea what it was like for Caroline, raised as an orphan, longing for familial
connection.
She desperately needed someone in this world who shared her blood. Especially since she was carrying twins. What a rare occurrence! How could I bear to end the lives of two tiny, living beings?
Elizabeth snorted. âBut donât forget, once Mr. Ellison finds out youâre pregnant, youâll be finished for good!â
