Chapter 80 Love Fuels Desire
With a swift motion, David untied the belt of Carolineâs robe. It slipped to the floor without a sound.
His bronze skin contrasted sharply with her snowy white complexion, creating a striking visual.
Each touch of his lips left a mark on her skin.
At first, Caroline managed to maintain a calm exterior, but soon she felt something was off.
David seemed serious this timeâlike he wasnât going to stop. He seemed intent on taking things further.
Why was he doing this now? Why now? What had changed?
Heâd had plenty of chances before to take things further, but he had always stopped. Tonight shouldnât be any differentâshould it?
Feeling uncertain, Caroline asked, âDoesnât love drive the desire to be intimate with someone? You donât love me, so whatâs the point of doing this?â
Davidâs lips moved back to her ear, his breath hot and uneven. âDonât you know? Men can separate love from physical desires.â
She challenged him, âCan you, though?â
âCaroline, Iâm still just a man.â
âNo,â she said firmly. âYouâre different. You demand perfectionânot just physically, but emotionally too.â
She had always understood this about David. He was a man accustomed to the best of everything, someone who wouldnât settle for less than what was entirely his and exactly how he wanted it.
If something didnât meet his standards, he wouldnât even look at it.
With a cold chuckle, David said, âYouâre utterly foolish when itâs time to be smart, but somehow you manage to act clever when itâs least needed!â
He couldnât deny itâhe wasnât the kind of man who could separate feelings from action.
Love her?The idea was absurd.
âGet out,â he said coldly, releasing her.
Relieved Caroline tightened her robe and left the bathroom

As she stepped away, Davidâs voice cut through the silence. âAnd Nash⦠forget about him.â
âIâm not fantasizing,â Caroline said deliberately. âI just canât let go of him. But he doesnât know thatâonly you do.â
âBang!â
Davidâs foot struck the bathroomâs glass door, the sound ringing sharply through the air.
Caroline flinched and quickened her pace, heading to the sofa.
She lay down, closed her eyes, and tried to fall asleep. She didnât want to risk him losing his temper again once he finished his shower.
Before drifting off, she reached under her pillow and felt the hidden knife.
Good. It was still there.
The sound of water running in the bathroom told her David was still in the shower.
Seizing the moment, Caroline quickly typed out a message to Nash.
âPlease help me. Elizabeth kidnapped me, but I canât find evidence. Can you use your connections to investigate? This is extremely important. Thank you.â
After sending the message, she deleted it immediately.
No trace left behind.
If this had only been about her grudge with Elizabeth, she wouldnât have reached out to Nash. She wanted nothing to do with him.
But this involved her child.
As the father, Nash had a responsibility to help.
The next day, Caroline worked in the lab wearing her white coat. She was surrounded by chemical materials, struggling to develop a new formula.
The materials were relatively cheap, but the overall cost was still too high.
Was there a way to bring it down further?
Her phone vibrated, breaking her concentration.
She picked it up and saw a message from Nash.
