Chapter 70 I Want Proof!
Davidâs figure disappeared at the top of the staircase.
Elizabeth let out a triumphant laugh.
A show was about to unfold.
Ha! Caroline, thereâs no way you can always come out unscathed and dodge every crisis. Letâs see how you handle Mr. Ellison this time.
She pondered, He must be questioning me because Caroline whispered in his ear, pinning the kidnapping on me. Otherwise, why would he be this aggressive? Well then, letâs see whoâs pillow talk wins out.
As for the kidnapping, Elizabeth would never admit to it, unless there was concrete evidence.
But she trusted her momâs skills, and no traces would be left behind.
Elizabeth quickly made her exit, not wanting to get caught in the fallout of Davidâs fury.
Upstairs in the master bedroom, Caroline had just slipped into her sleepwear, her damp hair still partially wet when the door suddenly slammed open with a kick
David stormed in, strides brisk, his face dark and menacing like an approaching storm.
Standing by the bed, she turned to him. âWhat are youâ¦â
Before she could finish, his hand clamped around her neck, forcing her backward step by step until her back hit the wall, pain shooting through her spine.
What on earth is David losing his mind over now?
Caroline glared up at him. âWhat did I do to provoke you this time?â
He said nothing, his eyes darkening further as he began tearing at her sleepwear.
âHey, David, what are you doing? Stop!â Caroline struggled. âLet go of me! Let go!â
With a rip, the fabric tore apart.
Davidâs movements were swift and forceful, leaving her no chance to resist.
âDavid!â Caroline shouted with all her strength. âYou maniac! Donât touch me! Get away!â
Her protests only fueled his grip, his hold tightening the more she fought back.
Even as she gripped his wrists, she couldnât stop him.
Trembling, she bit out through clenched teeth, âIs this what you are now, David? No different from those kidnappers?â
The words made him freeze.
Caroline slid down the wall, collapsing onto the floor as she clutched herself protectively.

Finished
The scene mirrored itself, twice in one day, subjected to the same humiliation.
The trauma from earlier lingered, and now David was treating her no differently.
Does he even care about my feelings? Does he see me as a woman with dignity?
âHow ironic,â Carolineâs voice trembled. âThis morning. I was almost assaulted by kidnappers. And this afternoon, forced by my own husband. If all you want is my body, just say it outright, David!â
Ripping my clothes apart like some lunatic. This is completely absurd. How could this marriage survive?
âI donât want you,â David said coldly, towering over her. I want proof.â
âProof?â Caroline frowned, not comprehending.
âProof of your purity.â
As the words fell, David seized her by the shoulders and hauled her onto the bed, tossing her down.
Standing at the edge, his tone was nothing but insulting âUndress yourself, or should I help? Either way, Iâm doing the inspection myself.â
Only then did Caroline grasp his intent.
Why is he suddenly doubting my innocence? Iâm not innocent anymore. Iâm pregnant! How am I supposed to deal with this now?
