Chapter 66 It Was Elizabeth
The atmosphere inside the car suddenly changed.
Carolineâs eyes gradually reddened, tears welling up but never falling as she stubbornly held them back.
âBecauseâ¦â she closed her eyes and took a deep breath, if I stay with you, things like today will happen again, a second, third time, or even countless more. From the day I married you, I havenât had a single peaceful day.â
David replied coldly, âWhat happened today will never happen again!â
A dignified man like him, standing tall and commanding authority, couldnât even protect his own wife. This was just an accident, and he would not allow any more accidents!
Caroline asked, âWhen the investigation is done, no matter who is behind this, will you handle it?â
âI will!â
It was both his guarantee and his promise. Anyone daring to harm his woman had a death wish!
Caroline tugged at the corner of her mouth, wanting to smile, but her swollen cheeks ached so badly that even moving brought a frown.
She asked again, âWhat if I tell you I suspect the one instructing Jason and Sam is Elizabeth?â
Davidâs thin lips pressed into a line. âItâs her?â
âYes.â
âDo you have
any
evidence?â
Caroline let out a mocking laugh. âIf I had evidence, if I had even a shred of strength left, I would crawl to Elizabeth right now to avenge today!â
They wanted to kill her child and ruin her reputation again. She remembered this grudge!
One day, she would repay it in full!
âWith no proof, you canât claim it was her.â David replied, âSheâs not that kind of person.â
Caroline didnât bother arguing anymore. She already knew he wouldnât believe her.
âDavid, your heartâ¦â She poked the spot over his chest, is completely leaning toward Elizabeth, not even a bit on me. Whatâs so great about her that makes you love her so much? But it doesnât matter. I donât care. Iâm willing to step aside for Elizabeth and fulfill your wishes. Just let me go, and Iâll leave this city with nothing and never return.â
Caroline knew clearly that Elizabeth would continue to target her..
The road ahead was tough and dangerous.
Walking it alone didnât scare her, she could face it with strength. But walking it with two children was a gamble she couldnât afford and dared not take.

She let out a long sigh. âWhat good has marrying you brought me? What have I gained? Life has only grown harder, filled with more grievances to endure. David, you donât love me, and I donât care for you. Letâs go our separate ways. Can we?â
She had once thought that Davidâs status would shield her from lifeâs storms.
Unexpectedly, all her storms had come because of David.
Caroline didnât want to cry, but tears streamed down uncontrollably, soaking Davidâs shirt in no time.
She sobbed harder, gasping as if she might faint.
âI just want a normal life. Is that wish so hard to fulfill? David, I hate you. I really hate you. You could let go and set me free, but youâve kept me tightly bound to your side.â
His voice was slightly hoarse. âYou⦠hate me?â
âYes!â
If not for his indulgence and support, Elizabeth would never have dared to act so recklessly.
Though Elizabeth had hurt her, every wound was deeply connected to David.
As David looked at her tearâstreaked face and lifted his hand to wipe her tears, she bit his finger before he could touch her.
