Chapter 65 You Canât Die Without My Consent
Killing Jason and Sam wouldnât solve anything.
The only way to truly resolve this was to uncover the mastermind behind it all, find out who was pulling the strings, and make sure they faced the consequences
Caroline was certain Elizabeth was the mastermind.
But without evidence, she couldnât prove anything. If she told David now, heâd dismiss her words as nonsense and grow even more frustrated with her.
What she needed was for David to dig into the matter Himself.
âWho could hate me this much? Who wants me dead and my reputation ruined?â Caroline whispered, clutching the suit jacket closer around her. âI need to find out whoâs behind this.â
This humiliation and painâI will make sure they pay.
David glanced at her but remained silent. With a wave of his hand, his bodyguards entered and dragged Jason and Sam away.
Caroline forced herself to stand, but as soon as she straightened, dizziness overwhelmed her. She swayed unsteadily, her legs trembling beneath her.
She tried to hold herself upright, clenching her teeth to keep from falling.
David stepped forward, pulling her into his arms with ease. His voice was firm, though tinged with exasperation. âWhy are you still trying to push yourself?â
This womanâso stubborn. Couldnât she allow herself to rely on someone, just this once?
âAre you hurt anywhere else?â David asked, his tone sharp. âAnswer me.â
Caroline shook her head weakly. âThanks to you, they didnât get the chance to hurt me like that.â
âThen whatâs with the blood in your mouth?â
âI bit them,â she said simply.
David stared down at her fragile figure, his brows drawing together tightly.
A violent rage simmered within him.
How dare anyone lay a hand on her? They would pay dearly for crossing him.
âWeâre going to the hospital,â David declared, lifting her into his arms and striding out without hesitation.
Caroline instinctively wrapped her arms around his neck, leaning into his chest.
Outside, she was stunned by the scene.
Blackâclad bodyguards surrounded the entire abandoned building, forming an impenetrable wall. A dozen black cars lined the road, engines idling.

Was it because he genuinely cared, or was it Harperâs doing? was likely that Harper had panicked when she realized I was missing, and to calm his mother, he had gone to such great lengths.
To her, David was nothing more than a heartless demon.
Without hesitation, David carried her into the car, ignoring the stares of onlookers, and drove away.
The interior of the car was quiet.
Caroline rested against Davidâs chest, her eyes closed, her body still trembling with residual fear.
She could hear his heartbeatâa steady, calming rhythm beneath her ear.
âWhat would you have done, Caroline, if I hadnât come in time?â David asked suddenly, his voice low.
She answered without hesitation, âI knew youâd come.â
âI mean if I hadnât,â he pressed.
âThen I wouldâve died,â Caroline said, her tone flat. âThat wouldâve been the simplest way out.â
She had been ready to bite her tongue and end it allâjust one step away from doing so.
Davidâs voice dropped further. âDie?â
âYes.â
âWithout my permission, you dare think about dying?â Davidâs tone turned icy as he lifted her chin, forcing her to meet his gaze. âCaroline, your life is mine to decide.â
As long as he hadnât permitted her to die, she had no choice but to keep on living!
Luckily, this was a kidnapping and not her attempt to escape.
If it had been, David would never have let her off so easily.
Caroline looked into his deep, piercing eyes and felt utterly drained. Life seemed devoid of any hope or light.
From the very beginning, sheâd had no control over her life.
âLet me go, David,â she choked out, tears forming in her eyes. âI really want a divorce.â
