“Think we should have a little fun?” Sam suggested, grinning.

“Maybe, but business comes first,” Jason agreed but then paused. “Though, honestly, who’d be in the mood after making such a mess?”

“True. Let’s enjoy ourselves first, then,” Sam said, both men laughing sinisterly.

Caroline felt her heart pounding. “What are you planning to do?” she asked, trying to keep her voice steady.

Jason smirked. “There’s $700,000 on the table for your unborn child. If you cooperate, we’ll make it less painful.”

Caroline’s lips trembled as she turned pale.

It all made sense now–Elizabeth must have learned about her pregnancy and orchestrated this. The bird’s nest, the breakfast, and now this kidnapping were all part of a plan to make her lose the baby.

But why? The child wasn’t David’s. Why was Elizabeth so desperate?
