Chapter 56 We Have to Get Rid of the Baby
How unlucky could she get, running into an enemy even at the hospital?
Caroline hurried off, anxious to avoid confrontation. She was already rushing to work and had no interest in dealing with Elizabeth.
Elizabeth watched her leave and sneered. âSheâs acting suspicious. Whatâs she hiding?
She turned her gaze towards the direction Caroline had come fromâthe obstetrics and gynecology department.
Why was she there? Was she sick, or⦠could she be pregnant?
The idea crossed her mind, and Elizabeth couldnât let it go. She had to find out why Caroline had visited that department.
The wealthy man who was supposed to meet Caroline that night never showed up. By mistake, Ellison entered the room and spent the night with her. Later, he approached the Brooks family to address the
situation.
Carolineâs parents, after much thought, sent Elizabeth to Mr. Ellison as a substitute.
If Mr. Ellison found out the truthâthat Caroline was the one from that nightâElizabeth would lose everything, while Caroline would have it all.
Elizabeth headed to the obstetrics department and found the head nurse. Handing over a thick envelope, she asked softly, âDid a woman named Caroline come here earlier?â
âYes.ââ
Elizabeth smiled. âI just want to know what she came for. No harm intended.â
The nurse replied, âSheâs one month pregnant and came for a checkup because of spotting.â
Elizabethâs face turned pale. Caroline was pregnant! Just one night, and she got lucky enough to conceive
Instead of being sold off to an old man, she slept with Ellison and now carried his child.
This couldnât happen! Elizabeth left the hospital and rushed to the Brooks family.
âMom,â she said to Samantha, âif she has that baby and itâs Mr. Ellisonâs, then what do we do?â
âRelax, Samantha said calmly. âShe doesnât even know who the father is
âBut we canât let her keep it. We have to make her get rid of it.â
Iâll come up with something.â Samantha assured her. She leaned closer and whispered a plan.
Elizabeth hesitated. âWill it work?â
âWeâll try. If it doesnât work the first time, weâll try again She canât escape. Samantha said firmly âWeâll get rid of the baby.â
Baby
Finished
âYou need to
move quickly too, Elizabeth. If you get pregnant with Mr. Ellisonâs baby, every woman in the city will be jealous of you!â
Elizabeth clenched her jaw, remembering her earlier rejection. Iâll make it happen.â
At the Ellison Residence.
After a long day, Caroline returned home, tired but relieved. She noticed a bowl of steaming birdâs nest soup on the table:
The clear, highâquality soup reminded her of the doctorâs advice and the two babies she was carrying. She knew she needed to eat well.
As she picked up the bowl, Paul approached. âMadam, welcome back.â
âYes, she replied. âThis soup is for me, isnât it?â
âYes, Paul said.
Caroline smiled and was ready to take a sip.
âBut it was sent by someone from the Brooks family,â Paul added. âMadam Samantha wanted to show her
care.â
Crash! The bowl slipped from her hands and shattered.
