At Ellison Group the next morning, Caroline prepared to report to Boris about her meeting with Cameron. However, when she arrived at his office, she found it empty.
The assistant looked up. âMr. Boris is with Mr. Ellison right now. You should check back later.â
âOh⦠okay.â
Caroline responded, but something felt off.
David wouldnât actually believe I had a connection with Cameron⦠would he? Would he tell Boris to block me from any future dealings with him?
Inside the Presidentâs Office, Boris leaned back, stretching his arms. âAlright, Mr. Ellison, whatâs so urgent that you had to drag me here first thing in the morning?â
Davidâs expression was cold and sharp. âHow exactly are you managing things?â
Boris raised an eyebrow. âExcuse me?â
The sudden criticism caught him completely off guard.
âYou let Caroline meet Cameron alone? Spend the afternoon togetherâand have dinner?â Davidâs voice was low and dangerous. âSheâs just a formulator. Cameron is a highâprofile client. Their status isnât even close. Is that really how you handle things?â
Boris blinked, then exhaled in realization. So this was what had him worked up.
Remembering Carolineâs call last night, he scratched his chin. âHold on⦠You donât actually think Cameron and Caroline were on a date, do you?â
âDonât change the subject.â
Boris held back a laugh. âAlright, alright. Listen. First, Cameron specifically requested to meet Caroline. He takes his research seriously and knows a lot about R&D. Second, his visit was lastâminuteâI didnât have time to plan anything else. I was tied up with other projects. And third, Cameron explicitly stated that he only needed to meet Caroline. He arrived in the morning and left at night. No time for anything else.â Boris drummed his fingers against the desk. âIs that explanation good enough for you? Or are you looking for something else, Mr. Ellison?â
Davidâs expression didnât change.
âIt doesnât matter what the circumstances were,â he said. âCaroline shouldnât have been left alone with Cameron. If you werenât available, someone else should have been there.â
âBut she did exceptionally well.â Boris countered. âIn fact, Cameron messaged me last nightâsaid he was pleased, enjoyed their discussion, and is looking forward to another meeting.â

Davidâs voice dropped to an icy tone. âThere wonât be another meeting,â he stated. âCameron wonât be seeing Caroline again.â
Boris frowned. âWhatâs your issue? Did Cameron say something to you? Did Cameron offend you somehow? Or is this about Caroline?â
David remained silent.
The longer Boris thought about it, the more confused he became. âEverything was handled properly. Caroline did her job well. Cameron was happy. So whatâs the real problem?â
Davidâs gaze darkened. âCameronâs interest in Caroline⦠isnât normal.â
Boris stiffened. âWhat?â
âHe specifically requested a private meeting with her. That alone is unusual. Then, he personally gave her a batch of rare ginsengâat a discounted price. And he refused to sell it to anyone elseâonly her.â Davidâs voice was cold. âSo tell me, Boris⦠What exactly do you think he wants?â
Boris suddenly understood.
So this was why Caroline had called him last night. David was completely overthinking this.
Was David serious, motives?
this irrational? Was he seriously being jealous over this?Did he really think Cameron had ulterior
Boris studied David carefully, his expression a mix of disbelief and amusement.
Boris couldnât help but wonderâwas David just overreacting, or had he completely lost it?
David remained silent, his lips pressed into a firm line.
