“Let me finish.” Boris explained, “What if the father turns out to be an old man? Would Caroline still want to. keep the baby? What if he’s a married man? Or worse, what if he has a hereditary disease?”

He dragged out his words. “And besides, this so–called father could be anyone. Even if the real father turns out to be young, healthy, and single, you could always cover it up and replace him with an old man.”

David’s thin lips pressed together slightly.

“Of course, you should still conduct a real investigation first,” Boris reminded him. “After all, that b*stard took advantage of the situation that night. Don’t you think he deserves to be dealt with properly? If you can find him, great. If not, just pick some half–crippled, toothless old man and pin it on him. I refuse to believe Caroline would still want to keep the child.”

David turned around. “Soon, I’ll give you a DNA sample. Your job is to conduct a city–wide comparison and find a match. Understood?”

William’s expression turned serious. “Understood!”

A DNA match meant a blood relation.

That very afternoon, Ellison Group issued an announcement that all employees would undergo their annual physical examination, with the date to be determined.

Caroline saw the announcement but didn’t think much of it.

It wasn’t until the end of the workday that Boris happened to pass by and stopped at her desk.

“Mr. Boris.” Caroline quickly stood up.

“No need to be so formal. If anything, your rank is higher than mine, Mrs. Ellison,” Boris said. “I wouldn’t dare.”

“Mr. Boris, you’re teasing me again.”

“I’m not. I’m just stating facts.”

Caroline grew more embarrassed. “Since I joined the team, I haven’t accomplished much. I’m constantly absent, late, or leaving early… Even if it wasn’t intentional, I know it’s had a negative impact.”

“As a formulation specialist, you developed quality products. That alone is an achievement,” Boris said. “As for the alcohol incident, it’s already been handled. Andrew wouldn’t dare pull anything again.”
