However, David remained unbothered, his expression calm and composed. âAdmitting it isnât a big deal. Love is love. I donât even know exactly what drew me to her.â
Caroline was nothing like a soft, gentle woman. She was stubborn, defiant, and constantly at odds with him. She had no interest in playing coy or pretending to be delicate.
On top of that, she was carrying another manâs child, willing to risk her life to protect it.
She wanted nothing more than a divorce. She even wished for his death so she could become a widow.
Yet love had crept in silently, taking root in Davidâs heart before he even realized it.
By the time he did, his feelings for her had already become deeply ingrained.
David had wondered what it was about her that drew him in.
Perhaps love was never meant to be rational.
After a long pause, Boris finally snapped back to his senses. âYou need to calm down and think this through. You love Caroline, but she doesnât love you. Sheâs pregnant, and the child isnât even yours⦠Are you really planning to raise another manâs kid?â
He and David had been close friends for years, bound by a trust deeper than words. They had survived life- orâdeath situations together, always watching each otherâs backs.
Boris had a rough idea of what had transpired between David and Caroline.
âThatâs exactly what troubles me the most.â David exhaled, pressing his fingers to his temple. âShe refuses to get rid of it and even made it clear that if the child lives, she lives. If the child dies, she dies with it.â
Boris slammed his palm against the table. âIsnât that easy to fix?â
âEasy?â
âYeah, just use a little force.â Boris leaned forward, his voice dropping conspiratorially. âFor example, knock her out, take her to the hospital, and have the procedure done. When she wakes up, act innocent and tell her you arrived late and have no idea what happened.â
David simply stared at him.
âNo? Fine, then plan B,â Boris continued. âStage a car accident or some other minor âaccident,â then bribe the doctor to say the baby couldnât be saved. Make it sound like itâs either the child
Or her, no choice but to terminate.â
David remained silent.
âStill not an option? Then find a doctor who can erase memories. Make Caroline forget she was ever pregnant. Wipe the baby from her mind entirely. How about that?â
Davidâs expression darkened, his eyes filled with silent disapproval.

nearly impossible.â
A heavy silence stretched between them before David finally spoke, his voice cool and measured. âI considered all of those options.â
âSee? I knew it. You have to be ruthless.â
âBut if I do that, sheâll hate me.â
Boris stared at him, momentarily speechless. âAre you seriously that lovestruck?â

âShe wouldnât just hate me,â David said, his voice quiet but firm. âWithout the child, she would have nothing left to hold her back. No vulnerabilities, no weaknesses. I wouldnât be able to keep her by my side. And I canât predict what sheâd do.â
In the past, he had acted recklessly, indifferent to her thoughts or feelings.
As long as he was satisfied, nothing else mattered.
The more she suffered, the more pleasure he took in it.
But everything had changed. David couldnât take that risk. He couldnât afford to.
He wanted to mend things between them.
He wanted to be her lover, her partner, her husband, not her enemy.
