Upon entering the presidentâs office, William walked in carrying a stack of documents. âMr. Ellison, these are the accumulated reports from the past few days. Please review them.â
David cast a brief glance at the files and gave a curt nod. âMm.â
Without another word, William discreetly exited the room, closing the door behind him.
As the president of Ellison Group, David was a force to be reckoned with in the business world. His methods were sharp, his decisions ruthless, and with sheer determination, he had propelled the companyâs stock to triple its original value.
Yet at this moment, seated at his desk with documents in hand, his mind was preoccupied with nothing but the image of Caroline.
No matter how much he tried to suppress it, no matter how determined he was to focus, her every movement, every expression lingered in his thoughts, refusing to fade.
With a sharp snap, he tossed the file aside and leaned back in his chair.
No wonder people had said that even the strongest men faltered before a womanâs charm. Love was nothing but a distraction, diminishing efficiency and clouding judgment.
Even someone as cold and calculating as he was not immune to its effects.
Knock, knock.
The rhythmic tapping on the door was soon followed by Boris strolling in.
âMr. Ellison, itâs quite the challenge getting a meeting with you these days,â Boris remarked, pulling out a chair and settling in. âWhatâs keeping you so busy?â
David didnât even lift his gaze.
Boris continued, undeterred. âYou disappearing is one thing, but Caroline vanishing along with you? What kind of game are you two playing? Off on some romantic escapade?â
âGet to the point.â
âWell, I came for your signature.â Boris slid a document across the desk. âCarozâs products have passed all quality checks. Weâre ready for launch, marketing, and fullâscale distribution. That alcohol burn incident has been handled. It was just an accident.â
Only then did David lazily open his eyes and sign the papers with swift, fluid strokes.
Caroz. Why did I even agree to this name back, then? Now, the more I see it, the more I like it.
Boris studied him, a smirk playing at his lips. âDark circles under your eyes, looking completely drained⦠Well, Mr. Ellison, this is what happens when you overindulge. You should really pace yourself. Youâve got the entire Ellison Group and the Ellison family on your shoulders, you canât afford to burn yourself out so
soon.â

But Boris wasnât done. âIf youâre like this, I can only imagine poor Caroline must be struggling just to stand. Maybe I should check in on her later.â
David raised an eyebrow. âYou must have a lot of free time.â
âNot at all. Iâm managing Caroz singleâhandedly, handling every aspect, just waiting for the official launch. If it succeeds, beauty and skincare could become a cornerstone of Ellison Group.â
After a pause, he added, âAnd itâs all thanks to your wifeâs formula.â
Davidâs lips curled slightly and unconsciously.
That smile was unmistakably soft.
âWell, a man in loveâ¦â Boris sighed. âWho was it again that used to be so stubborn? Swearing up and down that heâd never fall for Caroline? That even if every woman on earth vanished, he still wouldnât spare her a glance?â
Boris had expected him to deny it again.
To his complete shock, David merely nodded.
âThat was me. Iâll take it all back.â
Boris froze, his jaw nearly hitting the floor.
âWait, David, you⦠youâre actually admitting it? Just like that? Throwing your own words out the window this fast?â
âI admit it.â David leaned back in his chair, arms crossed lazily. âIâve fallen for her.â
