Chapter 202 Not Wanting to Save Her Child

The muffled sounds grew clearer in an instant.

“Do you hear that?” Julia’s voice was eerily calm. “It’s Caroline. She’s with me.”

Nash’s eyes widened in shock. “Julia! What… What the hell are you doing? You took Caroline? Where are you?”

“I’m at a hospital.”

“Which one? Send me the address! I’m coming right now!”

Julia let out a soft, almost wistful laugh. “It’s pointless, Nash. She’s carrying your child. How could I just stand by and do nothing? It’s your own flesh and blood, and I understand why you can’t bring yourself to do what needs to be done. No parent would ever harm their own child. But Caroline refuses to get rid of it, so that leaves me to do what no one else will. It’s for the best, for you, for Mr. Ellison, and even for Caroline. Don’t you see? Once the baby is gone, everyone wins. I’ll take the blame. I don’t mind. I’d do anything for you, Nash. I know you’ll hate me for it now, but one day, you’ll realize I did this for you.”

Nash’s grip on his phone tightened. His pulse roared in his ears. “Julia, listen to me. Calm down. Don’t do anything reckless! Let Caroline go right now! Do you hear me?”

“Let her go?” Julia scoffed. “After everything I did to get her here? No, Nash. Not until I finish what I started. She’s not walking away from this.”

Her laughter grew louder, unhinged, sending a chill down Nash’s spine.

“Julia…”

“I have to go now,” she cut him off, her voice dripping with finality. “Once this is over, I’ll find you.”

“No, don’t hang up!” Nash’s voice cracked with desperation. “You’ve got it all wrong. Caroline isn’t even carrying my child! Do you hear me? Julia, let her go!”

A brief silence. Then a bitter chuckle.

“You’d say anything to protect her, wouldn’t you?” Julia murmured. “Even lie like this.”

“I’m not lying, Julia! Caroline and I never… nothing happened between us! If you don’t believe me, ask–Mr. Ellison! He’s right beside me!”

Nash turned to David, his eyes pleading, silently begging him to confirm the truth.

But David hesitated. Just for two seconds.

And in those two seconds, Julia ended the call.

She had heard enough. Her mind was set, and nothing Nash said would change that.

She knew exactly what she was doing, and she knew the consequences.

But she felt no regret.

Frantically, he redialed Julia’s number, but the call went unanswered again and again.

A crushing sense of helplessness settled over him.

Nash turned to David, his voice sharp with fury. “Why didn’t you say anything just now? Why?”

David’s reply was measured, almost indifferent. “Julia won’t kill Caroline. She doesn’t have it in her.”

Her target wasn’t Caroline, it was the child.

Nash stared at him, his chest rising and falling with ragged breaths. And then, suddenly, a bitter, humorless laugh escaped him.

“I get it now,” he said, his voice laced with venom. “You stayed silent on purpose. You wanted to stall. You don’t want to save Caroline’s child, and you’re counting on Julia to do your dirty work for you.”
