She focused and saw that, indeed, it was Nash calling!

âIs this Julia?â
âYes, Julia replied. âWho else could it be?â
Caroline was a bit surprised. This number wasnât one Nash commonly used. Heâd specifically given it to her, so it had to be private, something few people knew
How did Julia manage to find out?
âSurprised?â Julia continued, sensing Carolineâs thoughts. âI was able to uncover your secret connection with Nash and even gain control of it. Caroline, donât forget, women in love are always detectives, always playing the part of detective. It was easy for me to find this little clue. Iâm with Nash every day. Iâm the closest person to him. If I wanted to know anything about him, I could learn it at any moment. But I never imagined that after youâre married to Mr. Ellison, youâre still thinking about Nash!â
Juliaâs words dripped with venom, clearly filled with anger toward Caroline.
Caroline, however, wasnât in the mood to argue. She tightened her grip on the phone. âMs. Julia, thereâs something extremely urgent, and I need to reach Nash right now. Pleaseâ¦â
âYou still want to see him?â
âI donât want to see him,â Caroline said. âI just need to speak with him on the phone.â
She paused for a moment, then decided not to reveal the full truth.
After all, the fewer people who knew about these shameful matters, the better.
But Juliaâs response was swift. âI can take you to see him Sometimes, itâs clearer to speak faceâtoâface rather than over the phone, donât you think?â
Caroline sighed. âI really donât need to see him. Even if you want me to,
I canât.â
She was stuck here at the Ellison residence, unable to leave.
âCaroline, go to the room at the end of the secondâfloor hallway, Julia instructed. âOpen the window, look down, and youâll find a surprise.

The long corridor was silent, lit up, and her footsteps were swallowed by the carpet.
Around the side of the Ellison residence, in a hidden corner, Julia stood with her arms crossed, staring at the closed window.
Nearby, Elizabeth was also there.
âIâve said everything I needed to, even things I probably shouldnât have,â Elizabeth spoke first. âMs. Julia, I think you already know what needs to be done.â
Julia looked at her. âAre you sure the child Caroline is carrying is Nashâs, not Mr. Ellisonâs?â
âMr. Ellison has never touched her. He couldnât care less about her, how could he want her? Besides, sheâs still entangled with Nash after marrying Mr. Ellison, meeting him in secret all the time. Doesnât that speak for itself? Sheâs carrying Nashâs child, and that bond can never be broken. Itâll never be clean, not in this lifetime.
