âVery well, youâve tricked me again.â David waved his hand. âGet her to the operating room, now!â
If they were any slower, Harper would be here! They couldnât let her see this scene; otherwise, Caroline would regain her courage and cause trouble again.
Carolineâs smile deepened. âI won this bet, David.â
As her words fell, she used every bit of strength left in her body to shout, âMom, Iâm here⦠here!â
Her voice echoed down the long hallway. Soon, Harperâs footsteps grew louder, and her figure appeared in sight.
Caroline watched as that figure moved toward her. Mom is here, I am saved.
As soon as Caroline had been pushed into the examination room, she had sensed that things werenât going well. She had prepared an escape route in advance.
After admitting to the doctors and nurses that she was pregnant, she had asked for a phone.
Then, she sent a message to Harper. Caroline wasnât sure if Harper would see it, or if she would come, but she had to take the chance. At least, sending the message gave her some hope.
âCaroline, what⦠whatâs wrong?â Harper rushed over, seeing her covered in cold sweat, looking extremely worried. âAre you sick? Whatâs going on?â
Harperâs face was kind, someone Caroline had known for many years. At Carolineâs moment of desperation, Harperâs genuine care and punctual arrival came at the perfect moment.
Harper had a motherly love that Caroline had never experienced.
Caroline clung to her like a lifeline, reaching out to grab Harperâs hand, but she forgot that all her fingers were broken.
âGosh, your handâ¦â Harperâs eyes were full of concern. âWhat happened? It looks painful! Quick, quick, get a doctor here to fix those bones!â
She wanted to hold Carolineâs hand but feared hurting her, so she paused, her hand hovering in the air, and then withdrew.
âMomâ¦â Caroline opened her mouth to speak, but as soon as she did, tears streamed down her face, and she was unable to say anything.
She felt guilty toward Harper because the child wasnât from the Ellison family.
But she had no choice. She had to use Harperâs kindness to ensure the childâs survival first, and then worry about the rest later.
âIâm here, donât be afraid,â Harper said, her voice comforting as she looked at the bodyguards. âWhat are you standing there for? Sheâs in this condition, and weâre at the hospital. Why havenât you called the doctor yet? What are you doing?â
The bodyguards exchanged glances. Should we send Mrs. Ellison to the obstetrics and gynecology operating room, or to the orthopedics department?

âSheâs in this condition, and youâre standing there acting like you donât care?â Harper snapped at him. âYou should be treating your wife with love and care. Youâll regret it later if you donât!â
âDo you know what sheâs done?â
One by one, each thing Caroline had done was enough for David to tear her apart.
Harper answered, âCaroline is a good girl, kindâhearted. What harm could she have done? I know that couples fight, itâs inevitable, but David you need to calm down. A man should be humble in front of his wife -itâs not shameful. Enough of this. Letâs deal with her injuries first. Her fingers are broken, how much pain must that be? Caroline, you donât need to be so tough. If it hurts, just say so. How did this happen?â
