Chapter 12 Donât Secretly Get Pregnant with My Child!
Caroline had no choice but to save herself.
Finished
Her hands flailed in the air, grabbing onto something unknown. Without time to think, she yanked it hard, using the force to cushion her fall. Thankfully, when she hit the ground, it wasnât as painful as she expected.
Howeverâ¦
Caroline glanced at the object in her hand.
Wait⦠Was this⦠A towel? No, a bath towel? Where did it come from?
Caroline stiffly raised her eyes and froze for a few seconds as the scene before her registered.
Davidâs voice was cold. âHave you seen enough?â
âAhhh!â
â« Caroline let out a sharp scream, hastily covering her eyes.
This was bad since she would be flustered from that.
Davidâs expression darkened with irritation. âShut up!â
Outside the door, Paul approached and knocked. âSir, is something wrong? Do you need securityâ¦â
Before he could finish, David barked, âGet lost!â
âYes⦠Yes, sir.â
What exactly was going on in that room? Could it beâ¦
Paulâs face lit up with a knowing smile.
Meanwhile, David yanked the bath towel back and wrapped it around himself again. âYour attempts at seduction are pathetic. Try something new.â
Of course, Caroline had been quick to agree to the divorce. But now it was clearâit was all a ruse. She was still trying to climb into his bed and act like his wife.
Did she think he was the kind of man who couldnât control himself?
Ridiculous.
Caroline bit her lip. This man is beyond narcissistic.
âI wasnât trying anything. Youâre the one who suddenlyâ¦
âDidnât you just take a good, long look?â David interrupted.
Carolineâs face flushed red in an instant. Sheâd only been stunned into inaction. Could he not see that?

If the truth about that night ever came to light, David wouldnât spare her. Worse, it would ruin her reputation entirely. Even though sheâd been a victim, it would destroy her life.
Caroline nodded. âThank you for your mercy.â
âButâ¦â Davidâs tone shifted as he narrowed his eyes at her, scrutinizing her expression. âWhen you first married into the family, didnât my grandfather arrange for a team of specialists from abroad to help you conceive?â
If he hadnât brought it up, Caroline mightâve forgotten about that entirely.
Richard had hoped she could conceive through medical intervention and had spent a fortune hiring experts to assess her chances.
But once David woke up, the plan had been shelved indefinitely.
David grabbed her chin firmly, his grip harsh. âWhen I ask a question, answer it. Donât play dumb.â
The pain made her frown, his strength was no joke.
âYes,â Caroline admitted. âMr. Richard wanted me to have a child for you and did everything he could to make it happen. But the night after you woke up, I only went to the hospital once. After that, nothing else happened.â
Davidâs voice dropped. âSo, you didnât conceive?â
âDo you
think itâs that easy to get pregnant? Do you think your⦠Seed is of such high quality?â she retorted.
Davidâs lips pressed into a thin line, his gaze as sharp as a blade.
Caroline, emboldened, didnât hold back. âBesides, why would I have a child for you? Weâre getting divorced. Whatâs the point of bringing a child into this mess? To grow up in a singleâparent household? Iâm an orphan, and I donât want my child to go through what I did. Your mother wasnât around for you growing up either. Do you really want your child to experience the same thing?â
David stared at her intently, his grip tightening, but Caroline stood her ground, refusing to cry out in pain.
Finally, he released her. âYouâd better stick to your word. Donât talk one way and act another. Donât you
dare secretly get pregnant
with
my child!â
