Chapter 102 An Unforgettable Night with Elizabeth

âHmm?â Caroline asked, sensing the silence and growing curious as David didnât respond right away.
âYouâd better always be on my side,â he said. âThe only outcome for those who betray me isââ
Death.
As his wife, Caroline was with him day and night, sharing meals and a bed, making it easy for her to take action if she wished.
But David never guarded against her. Partly because he thought she didnât have the courage, and partly because he was too confident, believing she could never hurt him.
However, now that Andrew was back, the situation had become unclear. He needed to warn her.
âI wonât betray you. Though what we have, as a couple⦠Carolineâs tone was laced with sarcasm. âAt least weâre family. We rise and fall together. I understand that. Besides, I want Ms. Harper to live out her later years in peace.â
Even without considering David, she had to think about Harper.
Davidâs face remained cold. âYou better not.â
âYou shouldnât be worried about me,â Caroline added. âYou should be worried aboutâ¦â
Elizabeth.
But she didnât say it aloud.
It might have sounded like she was starting trouble, but deep down, she genuinely believed Elizabeth was a dangerous person. The Brooks family was the type to do anything for profit, no matter the means.
âWho should I be worried about?â David narrowed his eyes. âHmm?â
âNothing.â Caroline shook her head. âIâm just curious⦠what do you see in Elizabeth?â
With his status, what kind of extraordinary beauty couldnât he have? Gentle, alluring, virtuous, pure, cuteâhe could snap his fingers, and theyâd all fall at his feet. What exactly did Elizabeth have that made her stand out?
Caroline didnât understand.
âWe had⦠an unforgettable night.â
Caroline was even more confused. âWhat night?â
David didnât elaborate. Instead, he pulled his hand back and turned to walk toward the master bedroom.
Her curiosity piqued, Caroline chased after him. âYou canât just leave it hanging like that. Finish your story⦠itâs annoying to leave people hanging.â
He quickened his pace. Caroline sped up to catch him.
Suddenly, David stopped, and Caroline didnât notice in time, colliding directly into his broad back.

Her nose hit the firm, muscular back, causing a sharp pain that made her eyes water.

But in the next moment, Davidâs arms tightened around her waist, lifting her off her feet and pushing her onto the bed. She landed in the soft feather comforter with a bounce.
What was he doing this time? Caroline pushed at him with all her strength. âHey, I wonât ask anymore, okay? Whatever night it was, itâs none of my business! Forget I ever said anything! Iâm going to sleep!â
âYou sleep.â
But with him acting like this, how could I sleep? Before Caroline could react, David flipped onto his side, closing his eyes.
She scrambled to get up, planning to return to the sofa.
âCome back,â David said lazily.
âHuh?â
âSleep next to me.â
Caroline shook her head vigorously. âThe sofaâs fine.â
What is he playing at? Sleeping in the same bed with him? Who knew what could happen next!
Then, she suddenly remembered something and glanced nervously at the door. Is Harperâs spy still watching outside? Why is David suddenly making this request?
It was so strange.
David didnât stop her; he simply said, âEither sleep next to me, or sleep on the floor.â
âIâll sleep on the floor.â
Caroline answered without hesitation, without a second thought.
