Chapter 174
On the other end of the phone, Calebâs breath became ineven upon hearing Madelynâs words.
Just as he was about to say something to try to persuade Madelyn to see him, Madelynâs hand was suddenly empty. She turned to see Andrew snatch the phone and end the call abruptly.
Andrew tossed the phone onto the bed and loomed over her.
âAre you awake?â
Madelyn remained silent. She noticed Andrewâs grim complexion and tone and puzzled over his reason for being angry again.
Her lips twitched involuntarily. She couldnât think of anything she had done to upset him. All she had done was sleep.
She wondered if it could be because she did nothing that upset him.
But this was the office. It couldnât be like how it was at Serenity Villa.
Madelyn reached out and grabbed his hand.
She asked urgently, âWhat are you angry about now?â
Andrew raised an eyebrow.
âIâm not angry!â
Madelyn was skeptical as his tone conveyed otherwise.
She got up from the bed and wrapped her arms around his neck.
âBut I can see that youâre angry. Come on. Who has upset you?â
âYou!â
âMe? But I havenât done anything.â
Upon hearing Andrew accuse her of upsetting him, Madelyn was genuinely bewildered. She figured that she had to be careful even when sleeping.
Andrew grabbed her slender waist. Then, he turned around and lay back on the bed. He allowed her to lay on top of him.
Madelyn could feel the rise and fall of his chest.
He sighed.
âYou really are a fool. How silly.â
âWhatâs wrong?â
Madelyn couldnât quite grasp Andrewâs words. She couldnât understand why he was angry because of her silliness.
But if she was foolish, it wasnât entirely her fault. She was never smart to begin with.
Andrew asked sternly, âWhat made you think Caleb and Amelia were your parents in the first place?â
âIsnât that what you all claimed?â
Madelyn looked up. She was confused as she met Andrewâs serious gaze.

Andrewâs stance stiffened at her words.
Sensing his unease, Madelyn asked, âWhatâs wrong?â

A cloud of gloom descended over the entire Miller family when Caleb and Amelia arrived at their door years ago. However, they seemed to have known all along that Caleb and Amelia were her parents.
So when Caleb and Amelia came for Madelyn, they didnât oppose it and respected Madelynâs wishes despite being unhappy about it.
No one had once doubted the relationship between the Garcia family and Madelyn.
However, upon hearing Andrewâs words, Madelyn asked, âIs there a problem?â
Madelyn was confused by Andrewâs silence.
He stated, âCaleb is not your biological father.â
âWhat? Am I a product of Ameliaâs affair?â
Andrew remained silent at Madelynâs question.
Madelyn grew livid and clutched her forehead in pain.
Her face was filled with resentment as she stared at Andrew.
âWhat are you doing? Are you joking with me?â
Andrew said, âAmelia is not your biological mother either.â
Madelyn replied, âOh.â
Her mind raced.
Madelyn was momentarily stunned. Then, her pupils narrowed as she looked at Andrew in disbelief.
âWhat do you mean?â
She couldnât wrap her head around Andrewâs statement that Caleb and Amelia werenât her parents.
She wondered if it meant that she wasnât Calebâs and Ameliaâs biological daughter even before they signed the severance letter.
Andrew was unsure of what had gone wrong. Years ago, he had witnessed Caleb and Amelia abandon a child at the hospital entrance from the thirdâfloor hospital ward.
Snowflakes drifted onto the child in the cold wind, prompting him to rush downstairs and pick up the baby. In just a few short minutes, she had become someone elseâs abandoned child.
