Alaric the Hunter

Mira's POV

I am helping clean up at the school. I left Gray with Liz. I would have left him at home. But Elena and Jeremy are painting Ric's old room. And I didn't want him around the paint fumes. And I can't take him everywhere with me. Besides with Esther gone, along with evil Ric and Klaus. I feel fine leaving him with Liz. Knowing she'd never let anything happen to him.

Anyway, so far Rebekah and I are the only ones cleaning up. "Did you have fun last night?" she asks me.

"It was ok, I danced with your brother" I tell her.

"Oh, are you two finally together?" she asks me.

"No, but I do like him" I admit.

"Then why not date him?" she asks me.

"Because Gray needs me and no offense. But Klaus has many enemies and my son deserves a quiet life" I tell her.

"I totally understand that" she assures me. "Then of course, there's the sire bond" she adds.

"Which I broke, but I can't stand secrets. When Klaus is ready to by honest, and he can ensure my son & my protection. Then he and I can talk about dating" I tell her. Just then Caroline appears.

"Where's Matt?" she asks.

"He bailed" Rebekah tells her.

"He got called into work" I clarify.

"Are you kidding me? So, it's just us three?" Care asks.

"Yep, grab a bag" I tell her.

"You're late. Clean up committee started at eight o'clock" Rebekah tells her.

"It's like 8:02" Care states.

"Exactly. I managed to turn up on time with Mira and I didn't even get to attend the dance that I organized. And she had a baby to drop off" Rebekah rants. She walks past Caroline and empties out the trash.

"I'm sorry about your mom. I mean I know you like, hated her and everything, but still...I'm sorry" Care tells her.

"So am I, I still can't believe a mother could do that to her children" I add.

"I'm sorry about your teacher. He seemed like a nice guy" Rebekah tells us.

"Yeah, he was" Care states and I nod my head in agreement.

"I'm gonna get started on the gym" Rebekah tells us. She leaves the room.

"So are you two besties now?" Care asks me.

"I wouldn't say that, but I'd like to think we're friends" I tell her. Just then we hear a crash outside. "Rebekah" I say and we run from the room. We see Ric about to stake her and we push him off of Rebekah. Pinning him to the locker. Rebekah takes the stake and stabs Alaric with it.

We all back away. But instead of dying he starts to remove the stake. We run for it. Care and I run to our cars, that are parked next to each other. "Where's Rebekah?" Care asks me.

"Probably warning Klaus, we gotta alert the others" I tell her as I take out my keys. She does the same and we go to get into our cars. When Caroline falls beside. "Caroline!" I shout and duck as Ric goes to snap my neck. I kick him hard in the stomach and he goes flying. I notice he is starting to burn. I made the mistake of turning my back on him as I went to grab Caroline so that I could run with her. When my world goes black.

(Time skip)

Ric has been torturing us both. He has us staked to our chairs in his classroom. Gagged us vervain soaked clothes. Both Caroline and I haven't been able to stop our tears of pain and fear. Will I ever see my son again? Am I about to die with Caroline? Why is he torturing us first? It's almost like he is waiting for someone. But who?

Just then Elena enters the room. I cry out in warning as she looks at us. "Caroline, Mira" she says and then looks at Ric. "Let them go" she tells him.

"Free them yourself" he tells her. They watch each other as Elena walks over to me cautiously. She strokes my arm gently looking into my tear filled eyes.

"It'll be ok" she assures me. "This may hurt" she warns me. She starts to remove one of the pencils in my hands. Alaric comes up and slams the pencil back down into her hand. I scream in pain as Elena gets up quickly facing him. "You said, you'd let them go" she states.

"How many times do I have to tell you, Elena? Stop trusting vampires!" he yells at her. He looks at Caroline and removes her gag. Dipping it into the vervain water beaker on his desk. The skin around Caroline's mouth is very red and appears to have peeled away. I am sure mine looks the same. Ric grabs the gag and heads over to Caroline.

"No, no more, please, no more!" she pleads.

"Alaric, stop!" Elena shouts.

"Sit down!" he snaps at her and she does so slowly. "This keeps the vervain in their system. It's like inhaling razor blades with every breath" he explains as he reties the gag.

"Why are you doing this?" Elena asks him.

"To make it easier on you when you put them out of their misery" he states. He picks up the white oak stake and walks towards Elena. While he is distracted I slowly start to raise my hands. Holding in my screams, if I can free them. I could free myself and snap his neck.

"What? No!" she shouts.

"Isn't this what you wanted, Elena? For me to teach you how to kill a vampire?" he asks her. "Well here are two vampires Elena, kill them" he tells her. Holding out the stake to her.

"This isn't what I want" she denies.

"Of course it is. All those hours you spent training, getting stronger, you could be a hunter, Elena. But you've never actually staked a vampire through the heart" he states.

"Why are you doing this?" she asks him.

"Because you need me. Because you're an eighteen-year-old girl without parents or guidance or any sense of right and wrong anymore" he states.

"Look at you. How is this right?!" she demands. Gesturing to Caroline and I.

"She's a murderer. She told me she killed someone and liked it" Ric tells her pointing to Caroline. "Your sister also admitted if not for Klaus, she would have probably killed her own son" he states. I sob as I bow my head as I remember when Gray skinned his knee. If Klaus hadn't been there, I could have killed him. My own son. "Now how is that right? Listen, Elena, your parents led the council. It was their life's mission to keep this town safe. They weren't dead six months before you undid it all" he states.

"You don't know anything about them" she snaps.

"Why, am I wrong? Do you actually think that they'd be proud of you?" he asks her. "If you don't side with the humans, you're just as bad as them. Now kill them" he tells her. "Or I'll do it for you and I'll make it hurt" he adds. She doesn't get up. He pulls her to her feet pulling her in front of Caroline first.

He forces the stake into her hand. He pulls away. Elena stands there with the stake in her hand for a moment, then turns around and tries to stab Alaric. He grabs her wrist before she can. "I thought I taught you better than that" he sneers.

"You did" she tells him. Elena breaks the beaker filled with vervain over Alaric's head. He screams in pain and his flesh starts to burn. Elena releases Caroline as I free my hands. I tear off my gag. "Get help" she tells us. I grab Care's hand and we run for it. I didn't want to leave Elena, but something was telling me that Ric wouldn't kill her.

We stop in a hall way when we notice Elena isn't with us. I silently curse as we back away. Suddenly someone covers our mouths and we scream. "Shhh. It's okay, it's okay. It's me" Klaus tells us lowly. I relax and turn into him crying. "It's okay Mira, you both are safe. So is Gray" he assures me. "We'll save Elena. You both go straight to Caroline's. You stay inside, do you understand?" he asks us.

"Thank you" Care tells him. I kiss him and he kisses me back. We pull away locking eyes.

"Be-careful" I tell him and leave with Caroline. Her mum was shocked by the state we were in. We filled her in and then went to clean up & change. Caroline let me borrow some of her clothes. We then joined her mum in the living room and she hands me Gray. I hold him close and she leaves. She'd been called to a council meeting.

"Was it true? What you told Ric?" Care asks me.

"Yes, Gray and I were playing together the day after I woke up. When he skinned his knee. I froze the smell of his blood, it drove me crazy. Luckily Klaus was there and he held me back while Kimberly took Gray to tend to his knee. I could have hurt him Care, my own son" I tell her.

"But you didn't" she assures me.

"Thanks to Klaus" I tell her. "I owe him a lot" I state.

"Is that why you like him?" she asks me.

"No, he protected me and Gray. He didn't keep secrets and I feel safe with him. I don't know when I started to fall for him, but I did" I tell her. "But then he threatened Jeremy and started to keep secrets. And you know how I feel about secrets" I state.

"I guess I can't blame you, I mean if hadn't tried to kill all of us. He is easy on the eyes" she says teasingly. I chuckle. "Don't tell Tyler I said that" she tells me.

"Scouts honour" I tell her. "Think they've dealt with Ric yet?" I ask her.

"I'm sure they will call once they have" she assures me. She looks at Gray. "Had you not been turned, would I have been god mother for your second baby?" she asks me.

"Maybe, I mean I never thought I'd be a mum. Elena was always the more maternal one. But I wouldn't trade Gray for anything in the world" I tell her. "Who knows, maybe I'll adopt another kid one day" I state.

"You're an amazing mum" she tells me. "Gray is lucky to have you and don't listen to Ric. You deserve Gray and you are the best mother he'll ever have" she tells me. I give her a grateful smile. Just then we get a text, I frown.

"Why would they do that to Klaus?" I ask her confused. "He helped save us and Ric was trying to kill us" I state.

"According to Bonnie, Ric is linked to Elena. She dies, he dies and Klaus figured that out. He was gonna kill her Mira" she tells me. I sigh as I lean further into the couch. "I know you liked him, but we've been trying to get rid of him for a while and I think we should celebrate" she tells me.

"Go ahead, I am gonna stay here" I tel her. She nods her head and leaves. I take out my phone and find Elijah's number.

"Mira, what a surprise" he says.

"You need to come back to Mystic Falls" I tell him. "Call Rebekah, she can fill you in on the details. It's about Klaus" I state and he sighs.

"I'll be there before sunset" he states and hangs up. I sigh and decide to make some lunch. Spend the day with Gray while I decide what to do. Ric is still a threat. Sure he hasn't been invited in anywhere. But come sunset, he will be on the hunt again. I have to get out of town. I would go to the lake house, but I haven't been invited in there yet. I could head to Denver or somewhere else. Lay low until it's safe in town again. Maybe I will go with Elijah or Rebekah, sure Ric maybe after them. But I'd be safer with an original, then on my own with Gray. I'll decide what to do later, for now I will just wait for Elijah to arrive.
