Story of Katerina Petrova

(Salvatore house) Elena's POV

So Stefan asked me to come over without Mira and not to mention Mira. Honestly, it was weird. But I came over anyway. Damon let me in and needless to say, I was surprised to see Rose. The vampire who used me as a bargaining chip for her freedom. At least I know now why Stefan warned me about bring Mira or mentioning her. I so do not want vampires know there are two human doppelgangers.

"Okay, you have to understand I only know what I've picked up over the years and I don't know what's true and what's not true. It's the problem with all this vampire crap but Klaus, I know he's real" Rose states once we had settled in the living room.

"Who is he?" I ask.

"He's one of the originals, he's a legend" Damon answers.

"From the first generation of vampires" Stefan clarifies.

"Like Elijah?" I ask.

"No. Elijah was the Easter bunny compared to Klaus. He's a foot soldier. Klaus is the real deal" Rose states.

"Klaus is known to be the oldest" Stefan tells me.

"Okay, so you're saying that the oldest vampire in the history of time is coming after me?" I ask.

"Yes/No" Rose and Stefan say together.

"What they're saying is, I mean if what she's saying is true" Damon says looking at Rose.

"Which is it" she states.

"And you're not saying it so I don't kill you" he adds.

"Which, I'm not" she states.

"Then we're looking at a solid maybe" Damon tells me.

"Look, Elijah's dead, right? So no one else even knows that you exist" Stefan says giving me a look. I know he is talking about Mira too.

"Not that you know of" Rose tells us.

"That's not helping" Damon tells her.

"Look, I've never even met anyone who's laid eyes on him. I mean, we're talking centuries of truth mixed with fiction. We don't know if he's real. For all we know he could just be some sort of stupid bed time story" Stefan assures me.

"He's real and he doesn't give up. If he wants something, he gets it. If you're not afraid of Klaus, then you're an idiot" Rose tells us.

"Alright, we're shaking. You made your point" Damon tells her. I get up.

"Where are you going?" Stefan asks me.

"School, I'm late" I tell him.

"Let me grab my stuff, I'll go with you" Stefan tells me.

"It's ok, I know where it is" I tell him and leave. I get in the car and text Caroline. Before calling Mira. "Hi, can you bring a bag of clothes, blood and the Petrova book to the tomb?" I ask.

"I guess I can do that, why?" she asks.

"I want to talk to Katherine about something" I tell her.

"That's dangerous Elena" she tells me.

"She can't get out of the tomb and I won't go in. Please?" I plead. She agrees and hangs up.

(Mini time skip) Mira's POV

I arrived at the church ruins and see Caroline with Elena. I head over with Grayson strapped to my back. A bag in hand of the things Elena asked for. "Hi, did you get everything?" she asks me.

"Yeah and I still don't agree with this" I tell her. Handing her the bag.

"See, she thinks it's a bad idea too" Caroline states.

"Neither of you are talking me out of this" Elena states. "I just need you to stall Stefan" she tells Caroline.

"Elena, you know she's a terrible lair" I remind her.

"See, she agrees and I am even worse as duplicity and you know this" Care states.

"You managed to keep me occupied when Katherine paid Stefan a visit" Elena shots back.

"Yeah, because she threatened me. Not that I'm saying that you should use that as a tactic, it's... Stefan's gonna see right through me" Care tells her.

"Caroline, as my friend, do you promise or not?" Elena asks.

"You had to break out the girlfriend code. Okay. I promise" Care agrees. Elena looks at me.

"Fine, just take what Katherine says with a grain of salt" I tell her. She nods her head. "See you later" I say and leave going home. I won't be returning to school until Grayson is over the Chicken Pox. They seem to be doing better. So I may be able to go back to school part time next month. Then full time the month after.

(Tomb) Third Persons POV

Caroline left after opening the tomb. Elena gave Katherine the book on her family history and asked about Klaus. While giving her small doses of blood. "It's a long story, Klaus and I. It goes all the way back to England, 1492, after I left Bulgaria. Or was thrown out" Katherine states.

"Thrown out?" Elena asks.

"My family, your true ancestors, they disowned me. My indiscretions were not tolerated at that time. I had a baby out of wedlock. The shame" Katherine explains. "Mira is lucky to be from this century. I envy her, I wish I could of kept my daughter" she states longingly.

"It was kept secret?" Elena asks and Katherine nods her head.

"My baby was given away. I was banished to England and I had to learn to adjust. So I quickly became English. It was there that I caught the eye of a nobleman named Klaus" she explains. "I was taken with him at first, til I found out what he was and what he wanted from me. And then I ran like hell" Katherine tells her.

She tells Elena the story of how Trevor helped her run. How she ended up at a cottage in the woods where Rose was with a human woman.  "So, what did Klaus want?" Elena asks her.

"The same thing that he'll want from you or Mira, maybe both of you. He wants to break the curse" Katherine tells her.

"By sacrificing the Petrova doppelgänger?" Elena asks.

"He wanted to drain every single drop of blood from my body" Katherine states.

(Gilbert house) Mira's POV

"Hi, Tyler how did it go with Caroline?" I ask as I talk to him on the phone. I am going over the research the others had brought back from Duke about Isobel's research on werewolves.

"She agreed to help" he states.

"That's good" I tell him. "Anyway, I did some research. But you can never tell what's fact or not from the internet. Like it says silver is poisonous to werewolves, burns their skin. But I know you use silver ware at home and you haven't had any problems, right?" I ask him.

"None, so that is obviously a myth" he states.

"It'll be a lot of trial and error I'm afraid until we know more about you" I tell him. "But Tyler, from what I've found. It's going to hurt, a lot" I say sadly.

"Yeah" he says sadly.

"But you'll be ok, Caroline and I will help you" I assure him.

"If weren't for you two, I'd be going crazy" he states. "Hey, how come you're not back at school?" he asks me.

"Grayson has the chicken pox and I am being an over protective mum not wanting to leave him until he is better" I tell him.

"Hope he gets well soon" he tells me.

"I think he will, he seems to be over the worse of it and the spots are starting to fade. But looks like I won't be back at school until after the full moon" I tell him.

"That's fine, I'll let you know what Care and I find out. Then you can compare it to your findings" he tells me.

"Sounds like a plan" I say with a smile. "Anyway I actually have to do some school work now, talk later" I tell him. He says goodbye and hangs up. I get to work.

(Tomb) Third Persons POV

"What does the Petrova blood line have to do with Klaus?" Elena asks as she gives Katherine another cup of blood.

"It's really tedious" Katherine tells her. "The curse was bound by the sacrifice of Petrova blood. Witches are crafty with their spells. The doppelgänger was created as a way to be able to undo the spell. Once the doppelgänger reappeared, the curse can be broken" she explains.

"So you ran before he killed you?" Elena asks.

"Something like that" Katherine mutters. She says how Rose was going to hand her back to Klaus at sunset. Then locked her in a room. How she, Katherine stabbed herself. Rose fed her vampire blood to heal her. Then left when Trevor arrived to argue with him about helping Katherine. Then said how she hung herself.

"You killed yourself?!" Elena asks shocked.

"Klaus needed a human doppelgänger. As a vampire, I was no longer any use to him" Katherine tells her.

"But it didn't work. You didn't really escape, you've been running from Klaus ever since" Elena states.

"I underestimated his spirit for vengeance but living in a suitcase is better than dying so you can have your blood spilled over some silly little rock" Katherine tells her. "What's wrong? Afraid I'm right? You don't want to die? There's another way out" she tells her and cuts her wrist. Holding it out to Elena. "Better hurry. Your opportunity is going, going, going and gone. I made the other choice" she states. "I wonder what Mira would decide?" she muses.

(The Grill) Mira's POV

So I decided I needed a break from all the studying. When Jeremy said he was going to the grill to hang with Bonnie. I decided to come and brought Grayson. Bonnie spots us and comes over with a smile. "Sorry I was late, are you okay?" Jeremy asks her.

"Yeah" she says.

"Hope you don't mind me tagging along" I state.

"Never Mira" she says with a chuckle. "How is my god son?" she asks taking him from me.

"Doing better, the dr says he should be all better by the end of the month" I state.

"That's good to hear" she states. "Want to see me beat your uncle at eight ball?" she asks him in a baby voice. He coos happily.

"You mean, me beat you" Jeremy corrects with a chuckle.

"We shall see" Bonnie tells him.

"No cheating" he tells her and we head over to the pool table. Bonnie hands me Grayson as Jeremy sets the table. She grabs them a cue each from behind the bar.

(With the Martins) Third Persons POV

"I didn't know Elena had a baby" Luka mutters in confusion.

"I am not sure that's Elena" Jonas tells his son.

"But its impossible for there to be two human doppelgangers, right?" Luka asks.

"Go see what you can find out" Jonas tells him. Luka nods and gets up. He heads over to the group while his dad leaves.

Mira's POV

I smile as Jeremy pockets another ball. Bonnie sucks at eight ball. "Alright, I got a winner guys. I got a winner" a guy says joining us. I look at him confused, who is he?

"Get ready, this slaughter is almost over" Jeremy tells him.

"Going to introduce us Bonnie?" I ask.

"Oh right, you haven't meet yet" she says with a smile. "Luka this is one of my best friends Mira. One of Jeremy's older sisters, the little bundle in her arms is her son Grayson. He is my god son" she boosts. "Mira, this is Luka. He is new in town and just started at school" she tells me.

"Nice to meet you" I say with a smile.

"Nice to meet you to" he says. "So who is the other sister?" he asks.

"My identical twin Elena, she isn't feeling well and is at home" I state. He nods his head looking thoughtful. Grayson decides he needs a nappy change. "I'll be back" I tell them and grab the nappy bag before going to the bathroom to change Grayson.

(Tomb) Third Persons POV

Elena asked Katherine how much of her story is true. Katherine said she had no reason to lie to her. The she had nothing better to do. Except sit in the tomb, read, and rot. "Okay, assuming it's even partially true, that's the reason why you came back isn't it? Because you wanted to be the one to hand me or Mira over to Klaus" Elena says.

"500 years on the run, I figured maybe he'd be willing to strike a deal" Katherine says shrugging.

"So you got Mason Lockwood to find you the moonstone" Elena says.

"Right again" Katherine drawls.

"What else do you need to break the curse?" Elena asks.

"Hmm, look who is getting smarter" Katherine says smirking.

"It's not just doppelganger or the stone, is it? Otherwise there would be no reason to trigger Tyler Lockwood's werewolf curse" Elena states.

"Witches and their spells: so many ingredients, so many people to sacrifice" Katherine says.

"So you need a werewolf?" Elena asks.

"Believe it or not, they're hard to come by" Katherine tells her.

"What else?" Elena asks.

"A witch to do the spell. Mine bailed but Bonnie will do just fine" Katherine states.

"What else?" Elena asks.

"A vampire" Katherine answers.

"Caroline" Elena says.

"It could have been anyone I suppose but I like the poetry of Caroline" Katherine tells her.

"So you were gonna just hand us all over to be killed?" Elena asks.

"Better you die, then I" Katherine tells her. Just then Stefan arrives. He tells Elena not to trust a word Katherine has said.

"What if she isn't? You didn't hear what she said" Elena tells him.

"You don't have to worry, I'm not gonna let anything happen to you or Mira" he assures her.

"That's the problem, you won't but you'll die trying. How's that any better?" Elena asks him annoyed.

"There's nothing you can do, Stefan. I haven't even told you the best part of the story" Katherine tells her. She tells them how Klaus murdered her entire family. Because she ran from him. "He killed them, my entire family, just to get back at me for running. Whatever you or Mira do to escape Klaus, he will get his vengeance on your friends, your family and anyone that you both have ever loved" she states.

"No, look at me. No, do not listen to her, okay?" Stefan tells Elena.

"Always the protector but even you must realize that she's doomed. There's nothing you can do to stop it unless of course you have this" Katherine says holding up the Moonstone.

"It's the ultimate lie, isn't it? You spun this whole thing so that we would have to get the stone from you, didn't you?" Stefan demands.

"I didn't spin anything, Stefan. It's the truth" Katherine tells him pocketing the stone.

"No, let me guess. You want to trade that stone for your freedom, you manipulative, psychotic bitch" he sneers.

"My freedom? That's where you're wrong, Stefan. I don't want my freedom because when Klaus shows up to kill us all and he will, I'll be in the tomb, where no vampire will enter because they can't get out. I'll be the safest psychotic bitch in town" Katherine tells him and retreats into the tomb. Stefan looks at Elena in concern.

(Slater's apartment) Third Persons POV

Elijah just had Slater kill himself after telling Rose there maybe a way to destroy the curse. But that they'd need a moonstone and witch. "Was it, really?" Jonas asks Elijah.

" It had to be done. He delivered his message. Won't be long now" Elijah states.

"There is something you should know Elijah" Jonas tells him. "About the doppelganger" he states.

"What about Elena?" Elijah asks.

"There's two of them, identical twins" Jonas states.

"You sure the other is human?" Elijah asks him.

"Pretty sure, she has a baby Elijah" Jonas tells him.

"Well this complicates mutters, but we will adapt" Elijah states. "Lets go" he says and they leave the apartment. Returning to Mystic Falls in Jonas' car.
