Mayor's Wake

Mira's POV

I'm so tired as I hold Grayson. "You can go to my house" Matt tells me.

"Not until we know more about Caroline" I tell him. As Bonnie arrives. She asks us how Caroline is doing.

"She's not good, Bon" Matt tells her.

"What happened?" Bonnie asks.

"We were driving and Tyler heard this noise and he got..." Matt starts to say.

"A noise?" Bonnie asks.

"He got this migraine or something and he lost control of the car and...I thought that Caroline was fine and then...and then she wasn't so" Matt finishes sadly.

"It'll be ok Matt" I assure him and yawn.

"You look tired Mira" Bonnie says.

"It's been a long night and it's still not over" I tell her. "I'm up later then usual" I state.

"I keep telling her to go home and she won't listen" Matt tells her.

"Can't go home, John lair, Elena and Jer fighting" I mutter. Matt takes Grayson from me.

"Elena's here" Matt states and I groan.

"I'll talk to her" Bonnie tells us and left us.

"Please take our son and go to my house" Matt pleads.

"But Caroline" I whine.

"I'll fill you in tomorrow" he assures me.

"Promise?" I ask and he nods his head. "Ok" I say taking Grayson and get to my feet. "Spare key still under the potted plant?" I ask and he nods his head. "Try to get some rest yourself" I tell him. He nods his head and I go to leave.

"Mira, can we talk?" Elena asks me.

"No" I deadpan.

"But it's important, it's about John" she states.

"I don't want to talk about that lair" I snap. "See you saved Damon, congrats" I tell her. "Grayson I won't be home tonight, Jenna" I tell Jenna when she appears. She nods her head and I leave her with Elena.

When I get to Matt's house, I let myself and Grayson in. I go put him to bed putting on the baby mentor. I then grab the one from Matt's room and go to the lounge. Wanting to wait for him. But that doesn't happen as I fall asleep on the couch.

(Time skip)

I'm woken by Matt shaking me. "Matt, what time is it?" I ask him as I sit up.

"Nine o-clock in the morning, did you sleep here all night?" he asks me. I notice he has Grayson. I nod my head.

"Did you just get in?" I ask him.

"Yeah, just left Caroline with Bonnie. Caroline made it for surgery and is doing a lot better" he tells me. I smile.

"Told you she'd be ok" I remind him.

"You did" he says with a smile. "Anyway, we should get ready for the wake" he states.

"The wake?" I ask confused.

"The Mayor's wake, he died last night in a fire" he states.

"Oh no, poor Tyler" I state getting up. "But I have no clothes here" I tell him.

"You can borrow some of Vicki's old stuff, I haven't picked it away yet" he tells me. I nod my head. I go have a shower and get changed. I put my hair in a pony tail. I went downstairs, to see Matt had bathed Grayson and gotten ready himself. "Ready?" he asks and I nod my head.

"Did you feed Grayson?" I ask him.

"Yes, though that was the last bottle" he tells me.

"I'll bump some more for you" I tell him and he nods his head. We soon arrive and are greeted by Mrs Lockwood. "We're so sorry for your lose" I tell her.

"Thank you both for coming, I know it'll mean a lot to Tyler that you both are here" she tells us. She welcomes us in and we go our separate ways. I soon find Tyler with a young man.

"Tyler, hey" I say.

"Mira" he says and hugs me gently. "Thank you for coming" he states.

"Of course I did, want a hold?" I ask gesturing to Grayson. He smiles and takes him. Grayson coos happily.

"I didn't know you two had a kid" the man states.

"What?! He's not mine!" Tyler tells him.

"But weren't you two dating?" the man asks confused.

"We broke up" I tell him. "Nearly 12 months ago, has it almost been a year already?" I ask Tyler shocked.

"Yep, last years Masquerade ball" he says sadly.

"So who's the dad?" the man asks.

"Who are you?" I ask.

"Oh right, Mira this is my uncle Mason" Tyler tells me.

"Oh, I remember you now. You moved to Florida, right?" I ask.

"Yeah I did" he states with a smile. "So wants the little fella's name?" he asks smiling at Grayson. Who is still cooing happily in Tyler's arms.

"His name is Grayson and Matt is his dad. It's a long story" I tell him.

"Not that long, you both got drunk and had a one night stand while he was still with Elena" Tyler states. I punch his arm lightly. "Hey, I got precious cargo here" he says gesturing to Grayson. I just roll my eyes.

"Anyway, I should find my aunt" I tell them and Tyler hands me back Grayson. "Nice meeting you again Mason and please take care of Tyler" I say.

"Will do" he says with a smile.

"Talk later, yeah?" Tyler asks me.

"Of course, I'm just a phone call away" I assure him. I leave to go look for aunt Jenna. But frown when I see Matt talking to Stefan and someone who looks like Elena. I head over.

"I am. Thanks Elena" Matt says. I pass him Grayson as he passes. Then glare at the girl beside Stefan.

"Why are you pretending to be my sister?" I demand.

"I wondered if you two would be able to spot me" she says smirking. "Mira, right?" she asks.

"What are you here Katherine?" I demand.

"Is your son's eyes as blue as Matt's?" she asks me.

"You stay the hell away from my son" I snap glaring at her.

"You need to leave" Stefan tells her.

"You're hurting my feelings, Stefan. Damon was much happier to see me, then again he thought I was your girlfriend so" Katherine says smirking.

"Katherine, I'm not doing this with you" Stefan tells her.

"When did you see Damon?" I ask her.

"Why at your house" she says smirking. "Didn't you hear about what I did to uncle John?" she asks.

"What did you do?" I demand.

"Chopped off his fingers" she states.

"You were in the house" I say shocked and she smirks. I back away from her. If she's been invited in, the house isn't safe. Grayson won't be safe.

"Don't worry, I won't lay a hand on your son. So long as no one pisses me off" she tells me smirking.

"I'll handle it Mira" Stefan assures me.

"You had better" I sneer and storm off. First tomb vampires and now we finally dealt with them. Katherine decides to show up, can't we have a normal life without vampires? I find Matt and take Grayson, holding him close.

"You and Elena still on the outs?" he asks and I shrug. "Well you are always welcome at my house" he tells me.

"Really?" I ask.

"You're the mother of my son and Caroline won't mind. Besides I have the room" he states.

"You're a life savior" I state and kiss his cheek. No vampire is invited in at his house. Grayson and I will be safe there. "I'm gonna go home and pack a bag. I'll see you back at your house" I tell him. He nods his head and I go home.

I arrive the same time as John. I ignore him and go upstairs. "Mira, can't we talk?" he asks.

"Heard about Katherine, funny how I'm the last to know everything" I state. "See they sewed your fingers back on" I add.

"It will take time to see if they heal properly" he states. "I'm leaving town" he adds.

"Of course you are" I mutter.

"I really am sorry Mira" he tells me

"It almost felt like I had him back" I state looking at Grayson. "Someone I could trust, but you blew it" I tell him.

"I want to earn your trust back" he states.

"That will take time, you know I don't trust easy. Hell I don't even trust the Salvatores" I tell him. "Not like Elena, who sees good in everyone" I state. "I'm going to stay with Matt, to protect Grayson from Katherine" I tell him.

"Wise decision" he states. "I should get packing" he adds. I nod and we go our separate ways. I pack Grayson's stuff first, along with the breast bump. I'll bump more milk for Matt once I settle in at his house. I then pack a bag of my clothes and my toiletry bag. I feed Grayson and burp him.

Before there's a knock on the door. I look up to see Jeremy. "John said you're leaving" he states.

"You heard about last night Jeremy, this house isn't safe with Katherine invited in" I tell him. "If you're smart, you'd come with me" I state.

"I'll be ok" he assures me. "Have you spoken to Elena?" he asks.

"No, not since she tried to tell me about John last night. I knew Bonnie hadn't despelled the device last night Jeremy. I agreed to letting John try to off the Salvatores, Elena won't forgive me for that" I state.

"She will, you were only trying to protect her and this family. Especially little Grayson" he states. "Need a hand?" he asks and I nod my head. He grabs the packed bags. While I grabbed the nappy bag and Grayson. We head downstairs.

I thanked him once we put the stuff in my car. I hugged him good bye. Then left. I drove to Matt's. He was there when I arrived and helped me bring the stuff inside. We put it in Vicki's old room. I help him pack up her stuff and we put it in the attic. I then unpacked and fed Grayson. Before Matt took him downstairs and while I bump some breast milk.

Once I was done, I head downstairs and put the bottles in the fridge. I see Matt cooking and smile. "What's for dinner?" I ask him.

"Spaghetti, that ok?" he asks and I nod my head. I set the table for us and smile at Grayson in his high chair. "So, got more new about Caroline. She'll be released the day after tomorrow" he states.

"After the carnival?" I ask.

"Yep" he says.

"She won't like that" I say with a chuckle.

"She's put Elena and Bonnie in charge" he states. He serves the food and we sit down. "I plan on visiting her tomorrow, want to come?" he asks.

"I would, but I think I should try to patch things up with Elena. Will you be ok with Grayson?" I ask him.

"I'll be fine" he assures me.

"There's milk for him in the fridge" I tell him and he nods his head. Grayson starts to doze off in his high chair. "I'll do the dishes" I tell Matt as we finish dinner.

"I'll go bath Grayson and put him to bed" he states. As I was doing the dishes. My phone rings and I answer it.

"Mira, Damon killed Jeremy!" she cries and I freeze in shock.

"Where are you?" I demand.

"Home" she says and I hang up. I race upstairs.

"Emergency at home, I gotta go" I tell Matt.

"Sure, hope everything is ok" he says. I nod and ran out of the house. I drive home and run upstairs. To see Elena with Jeremy and Stefan.

"Jeremy!" I cry and push Stefan away. I kneel beside him.

"Mira, look" Elena says showing me Jeremy's hand. I see John's ring. "He had it on when Damon killed him" she cries.

"So he'll wake?" I ask and she nods her head. I just cry in relief hugging them both. Glad my siblings are safe.

"He saw the ring, that's why he did it. He knew" Stefan tells us. I glare up at him, how dare he try to justify Damon's actions. He nearly killed my baby brother.

"He didn't see the ring" Elena says shaking her head.

"It's Katherine. She got under his skin. She undid everything that was good about him" Stefan tells us and I scoff.

"There's nothing good about him. Stefan, not anymore. He's decided what he wants. He doesn't want to feel, he wants to be hated, it's just easier that way. He got his wish" Elena tells him. "I hate him Stefan" she cries.

"Agreed" I say. Stefan kneels behind us and kisses Elena's shoulder comfortingly. Jeremy suddenly wakes up gasping. Stefan takes his face and looks in his eyes.

"Is he okay? Stefan, is he okay?" Elena asks him.

"He's okay. Shhh, you're okay" Stefan assures Jeremy.

"He killed me! Damon killed me!" Jeremy exclaims.

"It's okay. Oh God" Elena says as we hug Jeremy close. Both relieved he is alright. I later texted Matt, asking him if Grayson could stay the night. While I spend the night with my siblings. He said it was fine and asked if everything was ok. I lied and said it was. That Elena and I had made up. He was happy for us and assured me he'd take good care of Grayson. I then got ready for bed and spend the night in Elena's bed. Like when we were little.
