Mafia Kings: Dario: Chapter 56
Mafia Kings: Dario: Dark Mafia Romance Series
As beautiful as the wedding was, the dinner afterwards was even better. The tables were outside, and we enjoyed the fading twilight as the gorgeous hills of Tuscany lit up with violet and amber skies.
People drank and laughed and feasted. Children played and chased each other in the gardens.
I talked some more with my grandmother, who told me stories about my mother when she was a child.
My father got drunk and bonded with Massimo and Niccolo. They all laughed uproariously.
The only slightly sour note was when Fausto came up to congratulate us. Thankfully Aurelio stayed away.
âYou look beautiful,â Fausto told me as he air-kissed my cheeks.
âThank you,â I said as pleasantly as I could.
I remembered his last visit to the estate too well to be too friendly with him.
âAnd you â congratulations to you, nephew,â he said to Dario.
âI think you mean âDon Rosolini,ââ Niccolo said pointedly.
âHeâs Don Rosolini, Iâm Don Rosolini â it all cancels out,â Fausto said good-naturedly.
âNot when you hand out advice as bad as you do,â Niccolo snarked.
Fausto sighed in resignation. âThe part about me saying the Turk wasnât behind it?â
âThat would be it.â
âYouâre never going to let me live that down, are you?â
âNo, Iâm not.â
âWeâre all allowed to be wrong once in a while.â
âNot when my wifeâs life is on the line,â Dario said coldly.
I liked when Dario said my wife.
âWell, she seems well enough now,â Fausto said smugly. âOrdinarily, I would say sheâs come up in the world â from a waitress in a café to a wife in the Cosa Nostra. But seeing as sheâs a granddaughter of the Oldanis, it might be you thatâs come up in the world, my boy. Forging an alliance like that â â
âFausto?â Dario interrupted.
âYes?â
âGood to see you,â Dario said. He patted his uncle on the shoulder and then turned away, dismissing him abruptly.
Fausto chuckled. âBe careful, Dario. You might need my help someday.â
âNot today, though,â Niccolo said. âSay hello to Aurelio for us. Or you know what? â¦donât.â
Fausto glared at Niccolo and Dario but walked off without saying another word.
âWas that wise?â I asked Dario.
âLook who has a new consigliere!â Niccolo said with a laugh. âMaybe youâll listen to her more than you ever listened to me!â
I gave my husband a reproving look. âIs it smart to be so rude to your uncle?â
âA better question, my love,â Dario said as he kissed my cheek, âis whether he was smart to be so rude towards us.â
âWeâre no longer his teenage nephews,â Niccolo said. âThe sooner he comes to terms with that, the better.â
