Mafia Kings: Dario: Chapter 30
Mafia Kings: Dario: Dark Mafia Romance Series
I was still brooding over the Turkâs visit an hour after the Turk left.
I was sitting in my study when Niccolo walked in, his face pale.
âWhatâs wrong?â I asked.
âThere was a shooting in Florence,â he replied.
For the first time in a long while, I felt fear â
Panic.
âAlessandra?!â I asked as I bolted up from my chair.
âSheâs fine,â Niccolo said, then added drily, âalthough your concern for your brothers is touching.â
I gave him a look like Donât fuck with me right now. âAre they alright?â
âValentino is. Massimo was shot.â
I stared at him. âHow bad is it?â
âHe says itâs through-and-through, no severe damage â but Iâm having them meet a gunshot doctor at a safe house run by the Agrellas.â
âNO. Tell him to get back here now.â
Niccolo looked angry. âIf this is about protecting Alessandra â â
âHow do we know the Agrellas werenât behind the hit?â
âWe donât, but they â â
âHavenât violated our arrangement in over 20 years â is that what you were going to say?â
âLet me guess what youâre going to say,â Niccolo snapped. âThat itâs incredibly suspicious the Agrellas are doing business with the man you just turned down an hour ago.â
âIf itâs a coincidence, itâs the worst one Iâve ever seen. Do we know where the Turkâs base of operations is?â
Niccolo shook his head. âNo â and his car is probably out of reach by now.â
âThe Agrellas arenât,â I snarled. âWe know exactly where they are.â
âThe Agrellas could have hired some out-of-town hitters to take out Valentino and Massimo, itâs true,â Niccolo admitted. âOr they might have agreed to let the Turkâs men take a shot. Either is possible â but I just spoke to the Agrellasâ consigliere, and he offered us one of their safe houses. If their family does something out in the open that hurts Massimo or Valentino, itâs full-out war. The Agrellas arenât stupid enough to risk that.â
âUnless theyâre like the Turk and think Papaâs death made us weak,â I said. âAre you really going to bet Massimo and Valentinoâs lives on that?â
Niccolo narrowed his eyes. âAnd Alessandraâs life, too? Or did you just conveniently leave her name out?â
âGet them back here immediately. Call the cops to make sure theyâre not stopped. Get them a new car if theirs is shot up. Do whatever it takes â but weâre not trusting the Agrellas on this.â
Niccolo shook his head as he pulled out his phone and dialed. âPrison made you paranoid â you know that?â
âIf youâre going to be a wartime consigliere, brother, you had better get a lot more paranoid,â I snapped.
Niccolo glared at me, then turned away. âMassimo? New planâ¦â
