Chapter 8: Red

The Billionaire of New York CityWords: 3778

Three light knocks came on my door.

"Come in."

Through my door, in came Kate. Her blonde hair was up in a bun. With a few strays poking out.

"Hey Kyla!"

"Hey."

Kate shut my door and sat on my couch. I followed and sat next to her.

"What's up," I questioned.

"Mr. Carter wanted me to inform you that we will be having a Christmas party in two weeks and every employ is invited."

"Yeah that sounds fun. I'll definitely be there."

"Good! Maybe we can meet up before and get ready together?"

I smiled at her. "Of course."

Her blue eyes crinkled as she smiled.

"And one more thing. Mr. Carter wants to see you now."

I was sitting on the right chair in front of Mr. Carter's desk.

It has been a week since my first day here. The stress is overwhelming sometimes but by a miracle I make it through the day.

Kate and I become closer everyday.

Just last weekend she spent the night at my house.

She is 23 years old. She lives by herself just 10 minutes away in another apartment complex.

I have only been to her house once. One bedroom and bath. Same as mine.

Each day I learn more about her. And I have noticed that after I talk to Mr. Carter and go talk to Kate, she seems a little annoyed.

"Miss Owens, will you?"

His deep voice broke me through my thoughts and I was back to reality.

He was staring at me, waiting for an answer.

He took a deep breath. "Let me ask you one more time, will you?"

I just stared at him. Wondering whether he would be mad at me for not listening. My mouth was slightly open and starting to become dry.

I closed my mouth and cleared my throat.

"Will I what, sir?"

He stared at me for a second before talking.

"Were you not listening?"

"Um no sir." I quickly looked down at my hands. I noticed they were sweaty so I wiped them on my skirt. Which made it slightly better.

"Look at me please." His voice wasn't full of anger nor anything close to annoyed. Instead it was soft. It made me feel warm.

I looked up. Our eyes met. His brown eyes bored down on me in the sweetest way possible.

"Next year in April I have an important meeting in Los Angeles." He talked slow, making sure I was hearing everything he said. "All the CEOs ,like myself, of mostly every major company will be attending. As my personal assistant, I need you there. So will you come?"

"Yes sir." My words came out quickly.

"Very well. I do not have all the details of the trip yet but we will be there for five days. I would like you to attend the meetings but you are not required. But what you are required to do is write up about the meetings. For example who was there and what was the main goal or idea presented. By attending you can get more information but it is not crucial."

"Okay sir. Sounds good."

His face broke out into a smirk.

God, he is sexy as hell.

He reached for his computer and started typing. Before I decided to get up from my chair, he turned towards me.

"So will you be attending the Christmas party?"

"Yes sir."

"Good. It is formal. Extremely formal. Guys can't just wear a tie and no suit jacket nor can girls where a short dress with flats."

"So then what can we wear?"

"Well guys must wear a full suits, tie preferably. And girls must attend wearing heels of any length and long dresses. Understood?"

I nodded. "Are you specific on what color?"

I heard him chuckle as he shook his head. "No I'm not that strict."

I smiled and stood up from my chair and headed towards the door. I reached for the door handle and as I was about to turn it I heard his voice.

"Wear red."

I turned towards him. He was leaning his elbows on his desk with his hands folded. Staring at me.

"It looks good on you." He gave me a wink.

I could feel my whole face start to go pink. Before, hopefully, he could see me I turned away and walked out of his office.
