Chapter 18: 𝟐.𝟑

Stefan walked into the campsite, with Ray on his back. He noticed the bodies and Klaus sitting with Arielle's unconscious body in his lap, as he sipped on a beer.

"What...uh...what happened?" he asked hesitantly, setting Ray down. He was almost scared of the answer by the the bodies were ripped.

"According to Arielle...they went rabid. Some of them she killed, the others appear to have bled out. In the end...they're all dead."

Out of rage, Klaus threw the beer on the floor causing it to break, "I did everything I was told." he yelled, "I should be able to turn them. I broke the curse. I killed the werewolf. I killed a vampire. I killed the doppleganger."

The hybrid saw a strange look on Stefan's face but thought it was because of the bite, "You look like hell."

"Last I checked, I'm dying, and you don't want to heal me." he then noticed Klaus eyeing Ray's dead body, "I had to take him out. I didn't have a choice. I failed you. I'm sorry....do whatever you have to do."

Klaus got up and made sure Arielle was in a comfortable position before grabbing a bottle and putting some of his blood in it, "It should have worked." he muttered.

He handed Stefan the bottle, "Bottoms up.....We're leaving." he picked up Arielle in his arms and started walking away from the campsite.

When Klaus was adjusting Arielle in the car, she woke up, "Go back to sleep, love." he whispered softly.

Arielle sat right and shook her head, "I don't need to go back to sleep." she muttered back.

Klaus sighed and closed the door before making his way to the drivers side. The two sat in the car for a couple moments before Klaus spoke, "I don't think you're a killer."

"Me either." she mumbled.

The man furrowed his brows, "What?"

"I don't think I'm a killer either." she clarified.

"You should go look for your sister." he suggested.

"Aren't I supposed to be your hostage?"

Klaus rolled his eyes, "Forget it."

"No, no, no, I will, look for her." she then looked at her clothes, "I just need to take a shower first."

"Yes, you do."

The pair waited for Stefan to arrive and when he did they went off and stopped at the nearest motel so Arielle could shower.

Then Klaus drove her to the airport and compelled her a first-class ticket for a two hour flight back home. After she arrieved in Virginia she got a cab to take her back home.

Arielle got home around 8:00 AM, and thankfully her mom was going out, when she arrieved.

"Arielle?" Liz said in disbelief.

"Hey mom."

"Where the hell have you and Caroline been? She sends me a message two months ago telling me you two are taking a vacation in New York and you guys text me once a week telling me you're fine, and then you show up here, and where's Caroline? Did she stay-"

"Wait, wait." Arielle cut off her rant, "Care came home for Elena's birthday."

"What?"

Her daughter nodded, "Yeah, she told me, and she even sent pictures." she took out her phone and showed her the pictures, "See."

"Then why wouldn't she come home!?" Liz asked, worried for her youngest daughter.

"Last time we talked she was at the Lockwood house, leaving from her night with-" she stopped seeing the look her mom gave her. She cleared her throat awkwardly, "Sorry."

"It's fine....I'll go check with Carol, see if she knows anything." she started walking towards her car.

"I'll go with you." she went to the passengers side and got in as her mom started the car.

The mom and daughter made their way up the stairs of the Lockwood mansion and Liz knocked on the door.

"I'm sorry about going AWOL this summer." Arielle said.

"I just worry alot....you left for two years and barely came home, and then this summer you both left..and I felt like I was going to lose both of you."

"I promise, we'll never leave like that again."

"If you do, I'll ground you until the end of time." Arielle pulled her mom into a hug and only pulled away when Carol Lockwood opened the door.

"Liz, Arielle, what are you doing here?"

"We're looking for Caroline." Liz told her worridly, "Arielle said last time they spoke she was here."

Carol's face flashed with guilt. She stammered over her words trying to find the right ones.

Arielle noticed it.

"Do you know where she is?" the girl asked. Carol did the same thing she did before, that's when Arielle knew she was hiding something.

The werewitch grabbed her by the throat and pinned her to the door, "Where is she?" she yelled.

Liz pulled the girl back, "Calm down."

"She knows something."

"I'm a cop, I could tell." she reminded her, "But you won't get answers threatening her."

Arielle scoffed, "Yeah, okay, see if interrogation works better."

"If you're not going to cooperate, then go wait in the car."

Arielle rolled her eyes and walked out of the house. Since her mom was taking too long she went back home and did a quick locator spell.

That spell led her to the old Forbes cell. She walked into the building carefully, and in disgust, with how dirty it was. She opened the door at the bottom of the stairs and saw Caroline there.

After she grabbed her daylight ring, she quickly undid the restraints holding her and tried waking her up, "Care, get up." she sighed once Caroline stayed unconscious and kept taking off the restraints in her legs.

"I wouldn't do that." a voice spoke from behind her.

She turned to face him, "Bill? You're doing this?" she asked.

"I have to do this, Arielle, she's a monster."

"No she's not, she's your daughter."

"My daughter died, when that monster came to life." he said, "Now you, I did some research, because Caroline, Caroline was always an angel, but you, you were always troubled."

By now, Arielle had tears in her eyes, "It's still the same Caroline, she's still the same little girl you would take to tennis practice, and ice cream runs after school." she tried to change his mind, "She's still your little girl." her voice was breaking by now.

Bill tilted his head to the side, "You're not even gonna try to defend yourself?" he asked.

His adopted daughter shook her head, "I know what I've done, and I can tell you know too." she stated, "I won't waste my time justifying it for you, you'll still think I'm a monster."

The man got closer to her and cupped her face, "You're right." he confirmed, wiping the tear that had fallen from her eyes, "You are a monster, and nothing can change that."

"You were a bad father then, and you're a bad father now." the girl spat through tears.

He stood and started to walk away, "You were never my daughter." he turned around as he continued to speak, "I didn't even want you in the first place, I just wanted to make my girls happy."

"And now you're torturing them." she screeched.

"Because it's necessary." he justified.

"Yeah? Well I hope you rot in hell." she picked Caroline up and started walking out.

"Like those witches you killed?"

She let out a shaky breath as she turned around, "Yes." she tried her best to not let her face falter, "The only reason I haven't killed you, is because of mom." she informed, "Don't mistake the fact that you're still breathing for anything else."

With that she walked out leaving Bill alone.

As she walked out she saw her mom and Tyler on their way in, "What happened?" her mom asked, rushing to Caroline's side.

"Ask your ex." Arielle mumbled.

Liz furrowed her eyes with confusion, "Bill did this?"

"Yeah." she started walking away and towards Caroline's car, which she came in, "I know I promised not to leave anymore, but I'm not staying here and she's definitely not staying either." she told her mom after putting Caroline carefully in the backseat.

"No, you can't take her away from me." Liz pleaded.

"And leave her here?" she yelled, "Mom, I love you, but Caroline can't stay here."

"You can't just leave town again, Arielle." Tyler finally said.

"I can and I will." she stated turning to him, "But I promise we'll be back soon mom." she gave her mom one last hug before getting into the drivers side and driving away.

Once Caroline woke up, the two sisters talked and decided to go back to Klaus and Stefan, why, well no clear answer, but Caroline wanted to make sure Stefan didn't lose control and she needed a distraction, and Arielle wanted to make sure Caroline was safe.

So after Arielle had called Klaus and asked him where they were, Caroline had compelled them plane tickets and they took off.
